Devante Cole

There’s still a strong argument when you consider the entirety of our recruitment over the summer, to suggest that Wilder hasn’t been particularly well backed. The article offers some explanation for deals falling through at the last minute (though I’m a bit concerned to learn that Wilder said the Cole deal would be a definite no-go at £500k given how Knill stressed the importance of the signing). But it doesn’t explain the last 3 months and that on deadline day we were trying (and failing) to sign a relatively unproven Fleetwood player in the last year of his contract to try to solve our striking problems. Whichever you look at it, we’ve been left short up front (hence having to keep Hanson). We’ve had an entire summer to sort in and it hasn’t happened.
Hadn't we got 7 (8 with CCV) well before deadline day?
As for Cole, maybe it was down to Fleetwood for not getting a replacement in time?

So SkyTransferCentre reported the bollocks bid, then reported that the bollocks bid had been rejected, which presumably was also bollocks as no bid had been made?

Much like they reported that we'd signed Obika under Clough.

That article is just full of gossip really that anyone of us on here could've written, it's all hear say. Until someone asks CW or he says something about the bid then I don't believe we made a bid for Egan.

If indeed we did bid for Egan then i can only have seen it as a smokescreen for something else as Brentford had already got rid of Two defenders in the days leading up to the TDD and I'm sure CW will have realised that there was no way Egan was available.

How many were players CW wanted within the 10 (?) point check list he mentioned?

I suspect there are loads of players that fans would deem special or ambitious signings that score well in the 10 point checklist. Problem is they cost a bit. And the reality is that we're fishing in a pool that consists of league 1 players in the last year of their contract, league 2 players or championship players deemed no longer good enough for their current club despite McCabe's claims to the contrary.

It would appear ,if reports are to be believed that his Dad is livid with Fleetwood, not somebody who forgives easily is Andrew, ask Teddy Sheringham,he refused to speak to Teddy because he did not shake his hand
Which reports are these out of interest? Is this in the "meedja" or just gossip? I've just had a prompted-look on Google and can't find anything...

I wasn't super impressed with the idea of signing Cole to start with, but seeing the video and logically looking at it if we were bidding 200k for Cole and getting 200k for Hanson different types of players admittedly the budget works and we get pace and potential which wilder likes and we need.

Well we'll just have to see how it works out then and hope that our team of outcasts and valueless no-hopers manage to reproduce the Barnsley and Derby County performances a few more times :)

I'm starting to get sick of the sight of these shite amateur wannabe sports journo websites, and a fair amount of the supposedly professional sports journalism they aspire to is no better. Them and the fucking player's agents - load of parasites ruining the game

Indeed. Although to be fair, Wilder has an excellent record of taking players whose stock isn't particularly high and getting a great contribution out of them (Jake Wright, JOC, Fleck, Duffy etc.). Let's hope that his excellence in that area can continue to compensate for our lack of financial muscle.

The main thing i would say regarding this comment is that the reason Wilder said no to the deals at £500k or £200k is that he didn't think the players were worth that much.
Would you pay £30k for a Ford Fiesta? No. But you would pay £30k for a BMW or a Mercedes.
For me it was more about Wilder making sure he got value for money.
Entirely agree with this. No one knows what budget Wilder has for this season. The one thing that is clear is that he will not pay more than he thinks a player is worth, which sadly has not been a discipline followed by most of our previous managers who appear have been prepared to pay anything needed to get the player in without any regard to the overall interests of the club.

And then, from behind a burning bush, a parted sea, and down the beer isle at Morrison's, came our Lord, Christopher, he turned the grey sky blue, and turned water into Peroni, he put enough pukka pies on at match days, and lifted us from the depths of hell, taking in a small break in the championship, before returning our great club to the promised land!!!
All hail Lord Wilder, and his profit sir Knill!!!

Sun reporting we are back in for Cole in Jan. Cole being out of contract in June
not surprised he seems to have kept up his goal scoring form and chris seemed gutted on that deadline day video that we didn't get him

I come back from holiday burnt every year and nobody has put in a bid for me, the bastards ;)

3 goals in 6 games since the window closed, played well in 1 of those games according to a mate I was speaking to last night. I really hope we look elsewhere.

And you don't think Wilder and Knill can turn him into a machine!?

They aren't corporate junkets they are fact finding missions, my consultant, a former Government minister said it would be a good idea. The facts from my latest "mission" are as follows.

The older you get, the longer the hangover seems.

Coach trips. Do the Portuguese even have such a thing as an MOT?
