I offer you Carl Asaba. We thrashed Reading 4 - 0 at the lane and Asaba playing up front for Reading was utter rubbish!. Three years later to my horror, we signed him!

Claude Davis

Remember Claude Davis looked quite good against us in the Championship at Deepdale as did Youl Mawene. Perhaps our scouts should have looked at more than one match!

I'm more concerned with the horrors we had playing for us that were crap or crocks and we gave contracts to. People like Collins Monty Doyle Ironside Wallace etc

I always thought Mawene was the better of the two, awkward but effective. I don't think he ever improved from that half decent Preston team though.

Akinbiyi was responsible for the worst miss I've ever seen when he played for Wolves. Looked crude but physically awesome away at Stoke in one memorable game. Signed him, scored a crucial debut goal to win at Derby, a hum dinger at the sty and was largely non descript aside.

Horsfield was just nondescript before, during and after playing for us.

Wasn't Michael Brown poor for Man City, before we signed him?

James Wilson was dodgy in Oldham:'s defence when we beat them 3_0. He we took on to score one of our most important goals for years, the winner against Oxford last season!

In the early noughties, there were 3 players who seemed to rip the shit out of us everytime they played us:

Andy Johnson (Palace/Brum)
David Johnson (Nottm F)
James Harper (Reading)

Mendez-Laing.

Awful for Peterborough, the we signed him and he was awful for us. This current guy must be an imposter.

David Tuttle ,absolutely terrible against us for Spurs ,bit average when he came.

To compound the error Warnock plays him in the Cardiff play-off final instead of Windass.

People always forget when they say this that Windass was appalling in the second leg of the semi final and that United only got back into the tie after he was substituted. He did not deserve to be selected on merit. And that was the last in a string of poor games from him as I recall.

No, he was a right dickhead. But that put him in the category of players who could be tamed and his talents harnessed under a manager like Warnock.

*Edit: referring to the Michael Brown comment

Had to start with experience in a game like that.

Asaba had plenty of experience. Plus we picked Mark Rankine and that didn't work out too well did it?

Anyway, that's not why we lost. We lost because the defence couldn't cope with Wolves in the first half, and then when there was a glimmer of hope Murray saved Brown's penalty. Selecting Windass instead of Asaba when we never had the ball until the match was decided would have made no difference.

I think in that first half the ball didn`t stick with Asaba, he chose poor options and looked out of his depth. Windass would have enabled us to put more pressure on their defence, and less on ours.

Think you've done those the wrong way around. They were always good against us. Shite for us.

I saw Barry Hayles play for Stockport against us in 2000. He was just a big lumbering joke. Think he got sent off for scrapping in that match as well unless I'm mistaken.

He was playing for Fulham at the time. I think he did get sent off though.
