Yes, very good point that. What doesn't seem well understood by some is that it hurts Sheffield United Football Club when we miss out on revenue like this. Derby could have easily sold double what we gave them, maybe more. And that's a lot of money to walk away from. 32,000 the ground supposedly holds - we should be looking to get as close to that as we can, every home game.

I think the club need to re-think their seating and ticketing policy. For example: Who is it that is insisting that seats are "netted off" for games? Who? The police? The club's safety officers? Who? Because if this is going to be the case then let's take those seats out of there altogether - we might as well because they'll never be used. Quite honestly, they are using rows of seats to act as a barrier between fans and this is not the job for a plastic seat, it's the job for police officers and stewards. I can only assume they've made a calculated estimate that it is cheaper to have less police and stewards and just partition those seats off - but this is wrong imo.

The club could offer "hot seat" season tickets at the start of the season. These would be priced below that of a normal season ticket, but come with the condition that they are guaranteed a seat at the match, but the seat is not guaranteed to be the same seat every week and that they could be re-seated in a different part of the ground. This would give the club a lot of flexibility to move people to a different part of the ground and fill up empty seats in the home areas whilst increasing revenue in the away areas.

I'd like to see us selling out every week, and if that means we give bigger allocations to away teams then fine - there's enough room in the ground to do that. But stopping 6,000 short of your capacity is just throwing money away.

In all seriousness the crowd/stadium most play a pretty big role in picking up points. While you are correct that it's the players the get points on the board, there are plenty of examples that show just how effective a home crowd can be;

Burnley in the Prem last season, brilliant at home, couldn't buy a win or even a point away for most of the season.

Tottenham had a fortress at White Hart Lane, now at Wembley (despite the bigger crowd) they are struggling big time. The fans are nervous there because of their poor track record, and there's no doubt that this is seeping into the players.

All fair points but the flip side to that is Jose Mourinho had the worst home record a Man Utd manager has had in the last 45 years, do we blame the fans or the stadium, or were the players and manager not doing the right things?

Hmm. Given how may people turn up 5 minutes before KO (often pissed), I can just imagine the punch-ups.

I've said it times many. Give the supporters a team and manager that they can relate to and that play with heart..... and the supporters will fill the stands.

Can't do it as it opens into the same concourse as the home fans. The only way would be to section off the concourse and have all home fans entering via the Shoreham St end, which would cause big queues and probably would not be allowed for safety reasons.

I'm with those who say that we should urgently look at freeing up the 700-odd seats that are "closed off" on the BL lower. There's absolutely no reason, apart from the fact that they are closest to the home stands. But the BL lower is still better-segregated than at many other grounds, where home and away fans sit in the same stand separated only by a line of stewards.

Seems to me that the plod and the safety committee are terrified of making any mistakes - the lasting legacy of Hillsborough. However, they are in the wrong. We should look at making an official complaint if they continue to insist on hundreds of seats being sectioned off for no reason at all. In many other grounds away fans are put in a stand behind the goal and the authorities don't see the need to close down hundreds of seats. So why do they think its necessary at the Lane? Our fans have a few nutters but so do all clubs.

Looking from the Kop you might wonder how there can be 700 empty seats because it looked quite full against Derby
However for those that aren't aware the fromt 2 rows in the lower tier are not used.
I suppose the SY Police thinks keeping 2 rows empty makes it harder for away fans to run on to the pitch.

Also the front 3 rows are not used in the upper tier.
I suppose the SY Police think it's prevents fans over celebrating and falling off down to the tier below.

I think we should keep it as it is for the time being.

I've got a season ticket in the South Stand with my mate and my son, but should we have friends who want to come I have absolutely no qualms about switching to BLUT so we can all sit together,

I also think that should be keep performing as we are, and the word gets out to the absentee, occasional and lapsed Blades that something special is happening at the Lane then it will be quite clearly a case of sooner rather than later that we start getting 30k crowds again and will be filling the top tier

Maybe there is a solution that will keep the SY Safety Committee happy and we CAN use almost every seat.

Just install the latest HD CCTV system and have them pointing at the crowd (prices have reduced massively in recent years) with loads of signs saying "HD CCTV system in operation. Anyone contravening ground regulations will be prosecuted"
