They could've tripled that earlier this month, so are they that stupid?
Definitely not stupid , buy for £1m , prob worth £10m now.
We don't spunk munneh , but we don't half miss the chance to make it.
DCL is our next glaring error and Harry's about to be England's CB.
And we're owned by businessmen ?

DCL was glaringly shite when he played for us. Don't let that interfere with the agenda, though.

Harry wanted to go. He faked sunstroke so as not to play for us.

Uncomfortable truths.

Harry is also seen wearing Wendy shirts from time to time!

Clearly a successful businessman in your own right....

It is possible to appear glaringly shite while in development phase of a career and then rapidly improve. In the case of DCL, Everton clearly saw potential to improve – the majority of fans weren't particularly gutted, with comparisons to Slew mentioned more than once as predictions came in on how DCL would fair. His development since suggests Everton got an extremely shrewd deal – paying peanuts for a player that if sold tomorrow would probably go for several times the fee paid. Most fans predicting he'd quickly flop at Premier League level have been shown to be rather wrong.

I think generally Slew was brought up to highlight how it doesn't always work out so why (in league one) it was a deal worth doing.
DCL wouldn't have developed the same at United, it's unlikely he would have played many games and the club did pretty well last year.
Hindsight is always 20:20 but I think the deal suited everyone and everyone won. We need to stop looking back and constantly looking for what we lost, rather than what we've won.
Everton did indeed get a shrewd deal, but that's what their gamble gives them and they could afford to lose on 10 deals to get one. Some will and some won't pay off but it gave us the funding to win the league and the player the move he wanted too.
This isn't something to bash the manager for when he took a strategic decision that it was the right deal to do. I'm not sure if it we were in this league and the same offer came in we'd be doing business at the same level but our circumstances have changed.

Everyone on here screamed for pace. You got it.

Totally agree with this. You could say we have made some shrewd signings too. JOC, Fleck, Moore, Brooks, Stevens, Baldock all probably worth a lot more than we paid for them.

You may well be right. Time will tell. Personally I haven't seen him play since the Merseyside Derby where he played like a spectator who wandered onto the pitch by mistake.

It's just the glee with which some like to proclaim that the club they claim to support sold on the cheap again. Here's news for them. Tufty wanted to sell. He also wanted rid of Adams. Neither would have figured in our promotion winning team. Whatever wisdom hindsight provides, we got it right at the time.

Can't see anywhere has signed, but sky are now on the car and the rumour appears to be solid

That's somewhat naive to categorically say. Think back to last autumn and you had Clarke injured, Lavery yet to be fit, and Done not scoring. Do you really think that DCL wouldn't have had game-time? That may well have been the point he forced his way into the team.

For the record, I don't think it's something to bash the manager about as his development wasn't necessarily a given. It was a gamble we weren't harmed by ultimately – and hopefully we'll get a tidy sum with any eventual sell-on fee.

Why does everything with you have to be the absolute polar opposite. The truth can be an adult conversation in the middle.

Scouts saw something in DCL, and when I saw him play he looked nervous but has all the skills required to make it. He was included in all pre-season by Wilder and I think played until Clarke arrived. He wasn't glaringly shite in any of those pre-season games and I hope you can walk us through the very minimal games he played under fecking Adkins. You know that guy who deliberately made Coutts shite and note care, but it must be different for DCL?

In regards to Maguire, Clough said he had sunstroke. I will leave it there.

Wilder had to sell DCL to generate funds to bring players in you can only sell players other clubs want a premiership club wanted DCL and paid most of the fee upfront. Wilder knew he had to build a team to get promoted at the first attempt or the likely good was he would have been sacked.

I have no qualms with that, none at all.

Come on Pinchy, you've let yourself down with that a statement. Granted, Harry wanted to go, we were stuck in L1at the time with no apparent way out, can't blame him for that. But DCL glaringly shite. Nonsense mate.

Never saw DCL have a good game for us.
Fair enough mate, personality I thought he showed great promise, in fact I am struggling to think of a home grown striker that had more potential. My gripe though is with the glaringly shite tag.
