Stood there watching that last night, these two words kept popping in my head.

It seems that other teams are quicker so far. We need one or two with a bit more pace, specifically a striker that can turn their defenders towards their own goal. We are not committing opposition players enough. My two Swansea supporting mates who were there last night agreed and said it was too laboured and slow. Too predictable. This only changed when Brooks came on.

Secondly, confidence... It looks like the players have none at all. Scared to shoot, scared to run at defenders. The very few times they did... We created. It needs to happen more.

In regards to having more pace I think it would help if we passed the ball quicker. I actually thought that was the biggest difference between ourselves and Middlesbrough last Saturday. Even when passing the ball across the back 4 they passed it quickly, whereas we tend to just roll the ball across, giving the opposition time to shift across and get organised. It's the same further up the pitch as well. I get really frustrated when I see Carruthers (he isn't the only one who does it) doing one of those little flick passes that takes ages to get to the recipient and puts them under more pressure when it finally gets there. It was OK last season but it won't work in this division.

Tempo & work rate to get the ball , confidence and progressive possession when we have it, need to up the ball pressing ala last season & prob need that midfield player with energy & bite to allow others to play & supply front 2 .

I agree re Lavery and dont mind getting pelters for it!

I'd like to see him get more of a chance I agree. I'm really not sure if he's good enough at this level, but there's only one way to find out I suppose.

Compared to the other bench options I think he's better, but of course time will tell how many of our current squad will be able to make the step up to the championship.

Pace so important as you move through the levels.

You don't need everyone quick if they're good footballers with quick brains, but if you're seriously lacking in pace at both ends, you're going good to get found out the higher you go in the modern game.

We certainly don`t get the time and space we had last season when teams often stood off us. We need to press teams more quickly and pass the ball quicker ourselves. I would imagine CW, AK and the other coaching staff will adjust training routines to reflect these needs. This, together with one or two player additions, and time to get to grips with the division, should see us improve and gain confidence.

Brooks HAS to start. Genuine two footed ability, courage, turn of pace and faith in himself. Carruthers does a lot of nothing with no end product.

And we are desperate for pace in behind.

That's why carruthers does nothing, he has nowhere to go other than backwards. I blame the front two.

Brooks was playing with Clarke and Sharp and still created chances.
He got wide and put in a few crosses, Clarke didn't get across his man once

Perhaps Lavery?

I'll get pelted for that, but between Lavery, Brooks and Evans we looked half decent against Stoke.

Even with just coming off the bench there's a good chance Brooks will tire quickly until he - and the rest of them - adapt to the pace. Putting to much faith in the lad may disappoint some. We need a better all round striker. Both Sharp and Clarke are going to struggle against quicker better footballing defenders and are likely to be subbed most games, one of them at least.

Wilder went for it though, he also had Evans up top. Coupled with the fact that Cardiff thought the job was done and sat back off us for the last 10 mins.

I don't think Lavery has 1. Pace
2. Confidence
3. Quality
4. Skill
Definitely not championship class.

I agree. I wonder what options are realistically available to us?

This is the problem for me. IMO we are not slow but slow of thought. It's the decision making process that is being found out. The good news is that the longer we play in this division, the quicker that SHOULD become. No panick from me at the moment.

Opinions.

He's quicker than the current top 2, he's as skillful as the current top two. By that, he can actually face a defender up and go past him. Something the current 2 can't do.

Can't say I've seen any of that from him when I've seen him mate, your not his dad are you!?
I'd rather have Whiteman back after seeing him play Donnies last 3!!

Additionally, I'm not surprised you haven't seen him do any of that, if you've seen Whiteman playing in Doncaster's last three.

So insulting me and my missus is ok then!!??
Not a wise idea really that!

I don't insult people's families, a scenario of fist in mouth is more appropriate to that.
