Lundstram Thoughts

Stevens already looks totally at home,Stearman,as you say had a stormer yesterday, and I thought Samir was excellent(new signing albeit not shiny new). Blackman looked solid. I have no reason to suppose Lundstrum won't be a big player for us,and neither,I suspect do you. The Tufty Club has very high standards for potential new members.

Stevens looked like he'd been here a while. I thought Carruthers put a lot of effort in in the first 15 minutes but didn't teally get anywhere. He then picked up and had a very good game. Stearman looked quality. Writing Lundstrum off after fifteen minutes is nearly as daft as saying young David B is worth ten million after a very good preseason. Playing friendlies. (hopefully he IS the real deal but I can't help thinking some valuations of him - and others - are set high so the Club can be slated when they sell for an offer considerably less, with no other offers in sight).

SBT being positive about a player on first showing is refreshing. Makes a change from the "he's no good" cynics. Especially when he's given a role he's not noted for playing. Tufty really needs to get his act together....

Don't like to question CW but thought it was a bad substitution imo and looking back I'd say he would agree too we weren't comfortable enough to sit back and absorb the pressure and if we are honest we were lucky to get away with it.

The substitution just made the team sit back and invite Brentford onto us which was far from ideal. I think it may have been first game nerves.

So the substitution by CW was to see the game out. We saw the game out but it's a bad substitution?

As Ive said, Carruthers took a knock on his thigh. I don't know if that was why he came off but even if tactical, my recollection is it worked. We saw the game out without conceding. Which I assume was part of Wilders plans.

I agree with pretty much all of that mate, but really feel there is legit grounds for criticism re young player sales. I genuinely belive Soton would have got shed loads more for DCL and Ramsdale and IF Brooks goes in Jan,(don't think he'll go this month) then we really do need to ask absolute top dollar.

We do but the Southampton players have usually had first team game time but they clearly play hard ball. The short termism we've seen on occasions are clearly to do with losses, cash flow. If Brooks does hack it in the first team then taking a longer view would likely wipe out a seasons losses, reducing cash input from the owners AND giving cash to Tufty to strengthen IF he thinks he can utilise it better than having DB in the team.

I understand that from an accountants POV but from the POV of 27k fans it would be way better to put DB on the pitch and let him help us to the promised land. Then the accountants can all masturbate with huge smiles as the money spunks in.

The result is all that matters and we got the result. But I have to say after the substitution we automatically went very defensive and invited them onto us, and if they had been more clinical we would have conceded. I can't be the only one who noticed this we increased the pressure on ourselves by sitting back and inviting them onto us.

His previous career, including captaincy and best player of a decent Oxford team, is cast aside by experts in the blink of a blinkered eye...and at 23. Yet George Long is still a mere kid learning his trade. we're told.

Funny old game...

It's not cast aside, I just think he looked poor when he came on. Hope he improves.

I would hate some of these blades to be my gaffer when I was working crikey he came on when we were strggling being new to the team put him in a very difficult position.Trying to pick up the pace of the game when the opposition was going for the jugular ,we came through thanks to the. Team effort .with hindsight may be Wilder got the substitution wrong ( he's not god so does make the occasional mistake ).
Lundsramwill be better for the experience
We just lost the plot a bit.
We played similar against Mill wall last season (desperate to see the out ) but hung in there and won 2-0 great 3,points and not one player should be criticized as the team ethic was spot on.

I wouldn't sack him, I just hope he offers more in the future.

No everyone in the ground could see the 5-10 minutes before the substitution we were under severe pressure.

So we thought let's put another body in the centre of midfield and see out the last 10 minutes.

It doesn't matter if we were inviting them forward they were flying forward regardless.

It's not my money though so it just ends with a quick look at Nina Hartleys website instead.

Yes, put him on the pitch before even responding to offers and let's see what we've actually got.

The grassy knoll mob on BM - aren't you a member ? :) - don't seem to rate him as highly as Diego though and when the first team called DDG he was such a damp squib at that level you wouldn't have gone back after a bit, poked him with a damp stick and tried to relight him like it was bonfire night.

In short, we need to see what we've got. That's the only time to start relaxing in a gentlemans way over fees.

I am a GK member, but I know quality when I see it. Brooks has it. If he merits game time between now and Jan,or over the course of the full season we will know what we have. Let's hope in that eventuallity we play hardball like the Saints and get a game changing fee.

A motley crew!

Saw BD after the game, good to see he's looking well. The crown he was wearing now he's a mod was a bit much though :)

No I am not joking. He's got a reg plate that starts OWL5. And he was sat brazenly in it texting when we politely pointed out he might want to change it. Quickly.

You gave good advice! Can't believe that but its funny too because of how bizarre it is, we'll let him off, its early days!

A bunch of nerds on a football forum judging a footballer after 20 minutes of his debut. Glad to hear were not sacking him.Bonkers

I suppose you can have early thoughts on him sitters but some are bewilderingly critical of him.

Same as the early thoughts on Blackman and Stearman, judged to be no good because of performances in pre season friendlies,in Jamals case, one 90 minutes at Eastleigh

Lundstram is in his early 20s and has never played at his level or for this club. It may well turn out that he doesn't flourish until after Christmas or even until next season.

If the potential is there Wilder will be patient. So should we be.

He has played at this level before.
