Outgoing? Jake Wright Snr

A sniff of a rumour on twitter and people are happy to send Jake Wright back to Bradford and wish him well - get a grip!

He can count himself very unlucky that Stearman has taken his place as he has done absolutely nothing wrong and we look far stronger with him in the team. I trust Wilder and will go with what he thinks is best but I can't help but feel that Wright will force his way back in.

If he's now on a 2 year contract no way will he go. I suspect Wilder sees him as cover for Stearman and I wouldn't be surprised to see a similar outcome to last season. Starts on the bench, someone gets injured or suspended and he comes in, doesn't put a foot wrong and establishes himself as first choice.

Every successful team needs players like Wright who do their job with the minimum of fuss and when not in the side don't cause problems.

How has anyone looked at his incredible performances last season and thought 'yeah, he's not good enough for the Championship'?

Yeah, he's slow ish, but so are many centre halves, both in the Championship and the top flight; see a former player who's just made a multi million £ move

He's been as solid as the come. Nothing fancy, but he's not put a foot wrong, and we've not fucking lost a match with him in the team.

Please explain, because I'm missing something here.

He's not going to feature much, especially if we recruit another centre-back. Let him go and get first team football in a league where he will impress, with our gratitude for an amazing season last year, but a realisation that he's reached his level and we now need to move on.

Loyal; not sentimental.

I couldn't disagree more. It would be difficult and expensive to get a good proven championship defender to come in knowing it is only for 'cover'.
Wright knows the score and is happy to be part of the squad, presumably working with the younger lads too and passing on his experience.

Cometh the hour, cometh the man and I have every confidence he will step up and not let us down. From his quality last season you could see it and there is not sentiment in that.

Sorry Pinchy, but that's bollocks mate.

I'm not guaranteeing he will be a success, but to completely right him off before he's kicked a ball is ridiculous.

I have my doubts about how he will cope, but I had my doubts last year as well, and he well and truly stepped up. Are you really that fickle?

I really wish you'd stop speaking like you're an authority as well, as if you have Wilder's ear: it's embarrassing.

Don't forget, you're just a bloke on a forum like everybody else.
Can't help himself, he's writ Bash off as well. We might as well get shut of both of them already.

Jake Wright knows how to communicate, how to defend, how to read the game and how to lead from the back. Those qualities will see him through in this division, I've no doubt about that.

He was our key player in a lot of senses at the back last year, he was the glue holding the arguably more talented and athletic backline together. He might not start the season but he'll get his chance, be it due to an injury, suspension or drop in form and knowing Jake Wright don't rule him out making that shirt his own.

No one wants this more than him. He has all the desire to succeed and he deserves his chance.

I'd be gutted if we sold him.

I am indeed. There are plenty who believe themselves the oracle, though, many of whom haven't started shaving yet.

I don't have Wilder's ear; He has mine, though. It's not difficult to discern what he thinks from what he says and does. Juries in courts across the land perform that task every day without difficulty.

He's never told me but I knew he didn't rate Adams; was more than happy to offload DCL; would replace Done; doesn't see Wright as a starter; same will go for Basham if we get the second CB.

I just keep my eyes and ears open; assess all the evidence and draw common sense inferences. Anyone can do it.

If one of my own favourites seems to be on the way out, I'll acknowledge it. I might protest about it, but I won't pretend it isn't happening. See the Couttsy (❤️) debate from around this time last year.

I repeat, there are people on here who cannot tell the difference between what they want to happen and what will happen.

If you had Micky Adams II's ear, why did he sign 'the little Flecker'?

Dear me.

Can't help himself, he's writ Bash off as well. We might as well get shut of both of them already.

I admire both a great deal. Both were superb last season. We're moving on. Sadly only eleven can play. It's perfectly obvious whose places are in immediate jeopardy. Duffy and Wright. Basham depends on further recruitment. None of this is critical of any of those players, neither have I been critical of them previously.

You'll know when I don't rate a player. I will say so. We can talk about Runaround Done if you like.

You're still trying to punch above your weight, by the way. Calm down. You might learn something should you ever acknowledge your own limitations.

I don't like Done, never have, so that would be pointless.
I've said Duffy along with Hanson in my opinion could and should be replaced, despite how good the former was last season.

You didn't rate 'the little Flecker' when we were meant to be signing him, actively discouraged the signing of the best midfielder in the division.

Again, last line, what on earth are you on about?

You referring to your good self again Pinchy?
In the same way Warnock was a Warnock fan first first, Blade second - Pinchy is a Pinchy fan first, Youth team hater second, Blade third.

Not sure about the 'Blade third' bit. From past experience, fellow's like him are really only interested in themselves and dont have time or space for anyone else in their lovelorn and make-believe existence. He strikes me as a bit of a 'Walter Mitty' type.

I’m not going to deny that Bash gives his all every game but his natural ability is limited. Now at Champ level I think we can forget about him as far as a midfield starting position is concerned. He may well still do a job at CB but if we do strengthen in that area I believe his place will be at risk. We are now, or at least should be developing as a team and a consequence of that is player casualties. Both Bash and Wright will be vulnerable at CB. Doesn’t mean they won’t stay on as squad players.

Shhhh, Wilder's (sorry, Tufty...) got his ear remember, he might get you banned from the Lane.

I disagree. Although I agree he won't be first choice, all squads need cover and he provides cover of a high calibre. He is known to be an asset in the dressing room and not one to get the titty lip on if he doesn’t play every week. Already under contract so no signing on fees, agents fees etc. to throw into the mix and won’t be on a lot of money. Can cover sweeper and LCB and we’re very unlikely to get better for the same or less money.

Tut tut.

Far too much common sense for one post. Can you re-write it and put something in about McCabe shagging Wilder's missus, Billy being caught exposing himself in Graves Park and Fleck pissing in a copper's helmet?

To be fair... out of who we have and who we're trying to bring in there isn't much you can argue with this post?

We've brought in our number 1 transfer target - who looks 100% to be wrights replacement... 'if' rumours are to be believed we're not going to be spending 1mill on a defender to sit in the bench... which for me is Basham not O'Connell... and bearing in mind I can't see Fleck or coutts being dropped our impending influx of central midfielders and potential emergence of Brooks looks bad news for Duffy.

Your kidding aren't you....oh no. How silly of them to do that. I dont have a problem with Billy and Fleck doing what they did...but to get caught is just unforgiveable. They should be ashamed.

That you should temper your 'I'm always right' approach until you have a bit of wool on your back.

That you have a tendency to treat reasonable responses to your own opinions as nothing more than an opportunity to emphatically restate the same.

That you need to realise that a lot of people have seen, read, heard and learned a great deal more about football and life generally than you have.

You display a substantial streak of arrogance when, in truth, you are a novice with much to be modest about. For some reason you seem to be trying to establish some sort of reputation by seeking confrontation with me in particular. I'm afraid when it comes to a war of words, that's my territory. That's advice, not arrogance. I'm trying to assist you, but you throw

I've actually answered your question time after time previously. The fact that you ask it again only serves to emphasise the validity of what I say.
