Good signing this, looks like a commanding midfield presence. Passing, tackling and lots of energy.
Although personally bored of the whole Leonard saga now I wouldn't rule out signing him as well. We were very lucky with injuries last season, and may not be this time. We only need to lose Coutts (for example) to a long term injury and then Fleck picks up a knock leaving us a bit bare in the centre.

As said by others we could be looking at Duffy, Brooks and Carruthers as options behind the striker.
Then we have Thomas as the natural winger, with Duffy and Brooks as alternatives.
Fleck and possibly Leonard as the box to box options, with Coutts and Lundstrum as the holding / deep lying playmaker options.
Bash steps in only in the event of a deep injury crisis but otherwise stays at CB for me .

Without Leonard that's a fairly deep midfield squad, with him absolutely solid. Would like to see another out and out winger though.

Would probably be sensible to stack our bench a bit more. Quite a few kids on there last night so would only take one or two injuries.

By all accounts this guy is decent on the ball so could be more in the coutts type of role?

I prefer this signing to Leonard. I wouldn't have minded Leonard for around £500k but closer to £1m I think is over valued for someone without any real pedigree. Lundstram left Everton and rebuilt his career and is on the up. I think he could adapt better to the surroundings, training and ground that we have.

All I remember from Oxford last season was that he was a well built lad.

Lundstram is someone who can get stuck in and puts his foot on the ball. I'm no expert on Lundstram but I'd say he is a slightly harder version of Coutts. People saying that why do we want Lumdstram if he's no different to what we have. Well what about if Coutts gets injured?! We need a like for like replacement. Obviously Lundstram is a lot younger and will be given time to establish himself. We can't have Fleck and Coutts with no competition. Bash is definitely more of a centre back; he can't cover the ground that Coutts and Fleck do and doesn't have the passing range either of those two. But Basham play centre back, win headers. tackles and then play a simple pass to someone more gifted, although to be fair to Basham he does carry the ball out of defence well. But Lumdstram will put his foot on the ball and play a range of passing. A taller version of McCall I hope! He was very highly rated at Everton and he seems a decent signing to me. Its also funny that Oxford fans were saying stuff like £500,000, we'll never sell for that! Piss off Wilder! Ha ha ha, Wilder wins again!

I watched the clip from when Lundstram played England under 19's and based on this he is always available for the ball and usually quickly distributes the ball, often then getting it back and then passing it again. He doesn't carry the ball, hardly at all, so he's not the sort that drops the shoulder and takes a man on but as the defensive mid, he's not likely to. Hopefully he'll get the ball off the back 4, turn and then move it forward.

If we were to get in cover for fleck, I'd rather it be a left footer so that we keep the balance we have got when fleck is there. Maybe someone like Daniel Johnson from Preston.

I would imagine so. However, we only have 2 other pro CBs and I'm not convinced that Wright will be good enough to start regularly. We need these kind of options.

The only concerns I have with Lundstram are pace and tackling. I don't think he's much cop at either. He's going to have to do a lot of work off the ball.

Very Coutts like isn't he? As you say, always available and mixes it up nicely between the simple and the more ambitious passes. They don't all come off but who's do? Great age as well with time to improve.

One other advantage to Lundstram is that his value will almost certainly increase especially if he's ably to cope with the Champ and prove to be a good investment - far better than Holmes and possibly even Leonard even though they're all obviously different types of player
