if we've got a sell on fee on him and we bought him back, would that mean we still get the sell on fee? So basically get 10% off the agreed fee

Yes plus they owe us £500,000 for promotion bonus, so it's £3 million to us.

Depends on the clause really. Think we had similar when we bought Billy back from Scunny, to get the deal over the line we said we wouldn't be asking our cut of the sell-on-fee

Sorry for putting a serious post up but Murphy was alright while he was with us but he's not trebled his value by being a bit part player in the Championship, also his wages will be out of reach for all but the most whacked out, on the road to destruction or former premier league teams. And you can exclude hull from that who are acting as if they've 'had their time' and are going back to the comfort of being a big fish in the third division. Murphy's made his bed, Brighton have him for the duration of his contract and Sheffield United don't need him, glad the move kick started his international career for him though.

SkySports reporting that Brighton are willing to listen to offers of around £4mil.

£4m?! $ bleeding million! You're having a larf! He wasn't even a regular starter last season for them! I'd say £2m tops but the English transfer market has gone mad which is why you'er seeing more and more German managers arriving who can exploit the better value German and continental market.

I agree, £2mil's a good shout but there are some mad sums flying about in this league now.

To me, Murphy has never owned in whilst playing in the championship. Hardly ever been a regular. Loan on half wages or let's fill another need

37 starts in the Championship 15/16 and then 35 starts 16/17 sorry sheffielder I have a friend who goes to watch Brighton, Murphy as been a regular over the last two seasons, he had an injury towards the back end of the year and they clearly don't think he will be good enough for the Prem which is fair enough.

There's no way Utd would be able to afford him (fee & salary) at the moment and considering their size and the number of other players still to be recruited.

If he was available on loan however there's probably far more chance, esp if Brighton are still to pay the amount due to Utd following their promotion.

Personally, I always rated him and would love to see him back. That said, I'm not quite sure how he'd fit into the current 3-5-2 formation but I think he'd be fantastic down the left in a 4-2-3-1 or a 4-1-3-2 with protection behind him.

Good player, no doubt, but he's no Adrian Littlejohn...

Quite a few on here thought he was worth at least that when we sold him.

A loan deal would suit both parties.
I fully expect Brighton to be one of the bottom three clubs,so inevitably this time next year they may be preparing for championship life once again.
Same with us,we maybe be preparing for the step up,or a step down,so a loan is a win win situation.
All of this of course is wether tufty actually wants the player or not.

I don't think he suits our current style of play, although we are passing and pushing, I don't think he would fit the system we currently use, he is not a wing back and as a central player we would need more from him defensive wise and not to float out on the left and leave space behind, I very well could be wrong but I don't see how we could accommodate his style into the current type of play.

I didn't say anything about him not playing. I said I don't think he owned it.

"Hardly ever been a regular" - My response was to this, he was a regular and very much a part of the promoted team, he might not have been the star player but played as part of a very effective team.

Chelsea use the 3 centre half and wing back system. They then have a central striker with 2 wingers who roam on either side.

When did Murphy develop all this pace? Must be since I last saw him. He's not slow but pacey? Not really. He's not even black.

All relative. He’s no Littlejohn/Kabba/Shelton in the pace department but is probably at least as fast, if not faster (and a better player) than Lavery who is about our paciest attacking player at the moment.

Never go back.

He had his time, both parties have moved on.

I guess he will be a little disappointed not to get a go in the premier league too. But I can see him ending up somewhere like Hull, Forest or maybe Leeds.

By that reckoning we would have never brought Deano back in 97…

Can't help but think this is a done deal not to us though.. just listened to Wilders interview from Sunday and when asked about sell on fees he says we have had a good summer on that front realling of Jamie Murphy first, Kyle and Harry. Might be just me presuming but he said it as if it was signed and completed and we had received a sell on

We got a fee for them getting promoted. Or rather him being promoted with them.
