Our next one of any consequence is against Cambridge, and then Brighton on 25 July. The Bishops one will probably be mostly the U21s. Cambridge is a bit tricky as its in aid of a bloke that was left wheel chair bound after a ruck at the Railway pub. 12 from Soundend got banged up for several years yesterday as a result. Feelings are running a bit high at the moment, so i dont know whether the game will happen.

I saw that yesterday. About a dozen sent down, don't know the whole story or any details but that many and one bloke from Cambridge?

Really? It's happened thousands of times down the years at clubs all over the land. The difference now is the immediacy of instant news and the insatiable desire of fans for things to happen NOW and no later.

Anything that takes this long almost always involves one party messing another one about. I can't understand what's so complicated.....here's some money, do you accept? No. What's your best offer? This, do you accept? Yes/No. End.

Could very well be a game of he who blinks first, we hold with our valuation of the player, they look at what they could do to strengthen the team with and without Ryan Leonard, then look at if the money they would get would be good value for making the changes in personnel required for life with out him and if it is not worth it, end the process there.

I take it all back about Bishops Stortford:

The one from Cambridge will be a virtual vegetable for the rest of his life. Very sensitive issue with Southend fans at the moment and this thread is not the place for more detail.

Mark my words he will get sun stroke induced flu 10 minutes before kick off and not appear.

We in Sheffield know all about this ailment and know that the only cure is for your chairman to sell the player for an undisclosed fee

And that undisclosed figure is going to have to be in the region of £650/750k, nothing new there. I'm actually amazed that Wilder has not publically declared that he is out and is looking elsewhere. The fact that he hasn't yet said that suggests he still wants the deal to work.

Wilder is usually happy for rumours to run and run regardless of his intentions. They are often a welcome distraction from other deals whirring away in the background. That said, this is a pretty elaborate smokescreen even by his standards!

Wilder has an excellent reputation regards his transfer targets and always says the right words.

He doesn't usually reveal his targets or give updates. He usually gives the cagey response "we're always looking at good players and xxx is a good player" The reporter replies "so that means you're chasing his signature". Wilder smiles and says "I never said that. We have irons in so many fires and have a plan A signing, plan B and plan C signing". He's also said 'Our signings are all part of a strategic plan for the short, medium and long term" and he refuses to pay more than what he believes is a fair valuation.

He said several times in interviews
'Gone are the days where we're desperate to make a signing and we pay over the odds". Wilder talks about how we are a big club going places and he needs players to buy in to it and want to join this wonderful club. Wilders talked about if a players main motivation is money/ salary then they are not wanted at this club. He said "we can do as much for an ambitious players career than what they can do for us'. He gave Nathan Thomas as a recent example, said he was offered more money to join Middlesbrough but he'd already made his mind up that he wants to join us and Nathan is so excited about the prospect of playing at Bramall Lane.

In a recent interview a few days ago he said we currently have several irons in the fire and he's confident most of them will happen.

The fact he hasn't also suggests the player is still up for the move.

How do you see this playing out Treeton?

Historically these types of deals almost always happen.
Where there's a will from the player then invariably there's a way.
Van Dike (Dicks brother) of Southampton is not for sale but everyone still predicts he'll go to Liverpool very soon.

I suppose Southend need time to make enquiries about other players who might improve the squad.
No single player is indispensable. If Southend can find a way to use that money wisely then it's not such a terrible loss for them.

At the risk of repetition, Tufty simply won't pay more than his maximum valuation, whatever that might be. It might well be that we have not yet offered that sum. Whatever it is, it won't be governed purely by RugRon. It will be the product of negotiation, often termed 'compromise'.

If you even dream Tufty will dance to RugRon's tune you ought to wake up and apologise. It only needs a moment's thought to appreciate that would have happened already if it were ever going to.

Lenny wants the move. It will happen. You won't get Ron's full asking price. In fact, unless he starts thinking a bit straighter than his rug sits on his scalp, you'll get nowt and have nothing to show for it by the time he leaves. I'm not sure that could be labelled 'impressive'...

I suggest it's even more sensitive for the 'one from Cambridge'.

One what?

Rushed home to see we are on page 103 whoopee. Who cares about him, its a big pond with lots of fish in it.

lets see if we can push on to 120 pages.....

I agree with every word in this thread. One of us must be going soft in our old age.;)

Leonard will start for us in tonight's friendly against Bishop's Stortford. Not that that confirms what's going on with him, but I think it's likely he's staying at least until January based on this: http://www.echo-news.co.uk/sport/15417352.Leonard_will_return_for_Shrimpers_at_Bishop_s_Stortford/

In the most sincere terms, I hope you and your fellow Shrimpers enjoy this relative victory. Come January, when it's clear that the much promised assault on promotion fails to deliver, then Len's value sinks through your turf quicker than any of you could have imagined, result! At least by accepting a healthy income now you could have strengthened your squad. By the way, whatever did happen to the promised significant player your chairman was promising? Bertie Big Bollocks comes to mind. Big fish in a very small pond and happy for that to remain the case.
