Just received an exciting text.
Holmes left Charlton's pre season camp in Ireland this evening and has flown back to the UK.
Providing we agree terms it looks like we will have bagged our man by the weekend
Well done to Wilder, great signing!

I'd be more excited about bagging Leonard to be honest but it's a start.

I agree much prefer Leonard and worried about the credability of northern blade??

First post I see, so welcome

Apologies therefore for being a little sceptical

Seems a bit random this text. Any chance that it's just wind in the willows stuff?

I'll be honest Im a poster who usually writes on here under a difference name.

As for the source I can confirm its credible in literally one other situation and thats because he informed me when we snagged Wilder from Charlton last year

This is a Charlton based source very well connected at their club. I believe it anyway and am very excited.

Fair doos and cheers for posting

Just remember tho, if it's bollox, you're in for it! :D

Cheers for the info northern blade
Must admit would much prefer the two recently mentioned centre backs and Leonard in preference to Holmes, where I feel we have similar type of players in Carruthers, Duffy and Thomas. Can only assume we are confident of receiving the sell on fee from the Walker transfer.

I would be as well if had to go in that sea - look at them surely it'll put off any prospective signings. Join CAFC - freeze your nuts off!
I like how the rest of them are being cautious and on the look out for floating turds, used jonnies and sanitary towels floating about on the waves!

A 19 year old with a connection with a south London football club, so confident of the news he won't post under his normal account.

I'm Scooby Doobius.

Holmes can be as keen as he wants to do whatever but he's under contract to Charlton who hold the power. A first division club has paid 750k for a worse player than one that Charlton don't want to sell so how much are they gonna demand for him ?
Frieth...that's just not true that Charlton hold the power. Do you not know how employment contracts work? Do you not know that it is illegal to force a person to work for a company if they do not wish to? This is a basic human right. No football club can insist that a player remains their employee if he doesn't want to. However, the correct termination process must be followed. In other words, the player has to hand in a transfer request.

That's all that needs to happen here - and in Leonard's case. But the player loses out financially if they hand in a transfer request (they lose a percentage of the fee which they would otherwise get if a deal is done without the transfer request having been made). Which is why, I suspect, neither Holmes nor Leonard have handed in a transfer request. They have refused to sign new contracts though - thus putting pressure on the club's owners to release them now for money or later for nothing.

I think you'll change your mind when you see how good Holmes is. Assuming Holmes plays in the number 10 spot, but even if he plays on the wing, Holmes is the finished article and excelled last season in an average Charlton team. He will prove an upgrade on Duffy and I reckon Carrurthers can equally play in the middle giving competition to Coutts and Fleck as well as the number 10. Is Leonard likely to start instead of Fleck or Coutts - unless Wilder wants Leonard in the number 10 role, in which case I'd prefer Holmes.

How many times have you seen Holmes play?

I've not seen much of Holmes to be honest, is he a bit of a Baxter?

I'm not sure he will prove an upgrade on Duffy and that's one of the reasons I personally don't want us to use some of our budget on him, we have plenty of options there already but i'll always give him a chance if Wilder does choose to sign him.

Sorry fellas but whoever gave you the source Ricky had left the Ireland tour last night is wrong. Charlton Snapchat cafc-official shows this morning's drills which he features heavily in.

You cannot force someone to adhere to a personal services contract like a football contract, true.

But you can prevent them for signing for someone else without compensating you.

And a transfer request does not amount to termination of contract.
