arly scapegoat favourite ,what a bunch of shit fans we have ,obviously nobody who went to Peterboro or many other games or have any idea how football works see what Hanson brought to our title winning squad.

Sadly I can only give you the one like.

Threads like this really piss me off with our wankiest 'fans' all chipping in sniggering like school kids. Everyone is entitled to an opinion on his football ability, but why feel the need to slag one of our own off in public?

You'd be forgiven for thinking it was National Scapegoat Week, but then for some it is that for 52 weeks of the year.

Everybody knows why Hanson was brought into the side. Not to make tricky darting runs, not to dazzle the opposition with technique, but to unsettle defenders thereby creating opportunities for the forwards. This was his specific job and he has done it well.
He doesn't deserve the twattish attitude that's being directed towards him quite frankly.

"Fuck me dead"

This will be my most favoured phrase from here on in fellas. Abbreviated to FMD.

I think I'm in the minority (of one) that actually quite likes big Hanson. His work rate is impressive, very strong, good in the air and can hold a ball up. Admittedly he isn't the most mobile and is never going to score in great quantities. But when we are up against it next season I am sure he will be a good outlet for us, even if its just to slow a game down, take the pressure off and grind out a result. Big target men strikers are a funny thing, whenever we don't have one, fans complain that it's what the side lacks, until we sign one and everyone hates them. Almost every big striker we have ever had has been labelled as a 'donkey, too slow, not good enough in the air or couldn't hit a bar door'. Target men have their limitations, but can still play a part and for me big Hans plays that role pretty well.

I'm another minority fan then because I completely agree with your post!!. I watched Hanson in a few games and the defenders just had no idea how to cope with him. Utb

Did you know it was 3 months tomorrow that Sheffield United won a league title by 14 points? We haven't kicked a ball in anger since 30th April.

Every single man in that squad played a part in a side that absolutely decimated league 1, after giving everyone a 4 game head start. Why the fuck have people got the knives out for a centre forward who has played a TOTAL of 13 games for us (3 of them as a sub)?!?!?!

Astonishing.

Edit: As a side note, attempting to convert a centre forward to centre half is essentially career suicide. Positionally they're 2 completely different roles & it would be almost like learning the game all over again. Non starter.

Can we be clear before Dion Dublin is further used to justify the barmy OP that Big Dion was not converted into a centre-half – he started his career there, and was converted to a striker. He then periodically headed back to his original position later in his career.

Big Hans has a number of useful attributes for us. As a striker.

Yeah I agree. He serves a purpose and I have trust in our management team that brought him in. Billy Sharp seemed to rate him and was keen to play alongside him when he came in. OP itself not worth discussing IMO.

Billy Sharp has also been known to sing to big Hans.

Something along the lines of "He used to work at the Co-op, work at the Co-op ........."

Must be a bromance ;)

Ok its not exactly a suggestion I'm on board with, but I wish people weren't so hostile to a fellow Blade's idea and if they respond with 'that's ******* stupid' it doesn't really offer any analysis or bring any substance to the debate.

Hanson would be great in the air and could probably sort positioning out, but doubt he can tackle at CB. He is useful to have if we're a goal down with 10 minutes left and running out of ideas, the only striker who can specifically play as an imposing target man. That said if he does get game time and fails to offer anything he will be one of the first out the door in January.

Honestly, I expect it. Look, even if you come on here and say "Good Morning" you'll get someone want to give you personal abuse for it. I don't know what kind of life these poor folks have had that makes them full of such bile and hatred to others and I strongly suspect that these messageboards harbour a lot of people with problems, drink, depression, financial problems, problems in their relationships with others, whatever. But, for me, after years playing the messageboard game, it honestly doesn't bother me. I don't take any of it personally. I'm also not perfect myself and there's been many times when I've posted stuff and then thought afterwards.. that was a bit unnecessary. So, back on topic then ...

I put this out there simply as an idea to see what folks think. In my honest opinion, I think Hanson could do a job, temporarily, as a make-shift centre half - for example, if we were playing in a match where our first choice centre-half got injured.we could throw him in there and he'd win everything in the air. But I really wouldn't want to risk him at centre half in the Championship on a regular basis. I think he'd get torn a new one because he's not mobile enough.

We don't have much pace at the back, or up front for that matter (Nathan Thomas may be the exception there). I think we need pace at the back and I'm sure Wilder is thinking similar.

As for Big Jim...

I think he's going to find it tough to get regular first team football at this level.
