Side note - Every time i've seen Coker play he's impressed me, is he a only-good-once-every-10-games type player or have injuries held him back from playing at a higher level?
Ben's good every time he plays. Cracking attacking LB, but he does have a tendency to pick up calf injuries that keep him out for more than one game. Reading & Brighton have been sniffing around for him but injury seems to have dulled the interest.

Maybe McLaughlin would have been hard to keep hold of but for his injury last season.

Again, true, he was on fire before the injury, and he didn't reach those levels again when he came back. Just signed a 3 year deal with us though.

Hendrie has been bought in to provide competition at LB. Ben Coker, our current LB, does have an injury history, as does Steven McLaughlin, the bloke that plays in front of him. He's definitely not a Lenny replacement.

Stephen Hendrie is too old to play snooker so not sure how he can provide competition in any position? :p

No, it was Lee Hendrie.

He want's to come back to the boyhood club of his dreams and make amends this time. He really wants to succeed and help us back to the Prem. Oh, and the wages would be nice too.

The Southend squad are now in Malaga for warm weather training and Lendog is with them. For what it's worth, this is the latest on the transfer saga from our local paper, published in the last hour. It does look as if the club are doing everything to keep him.

Cheers for the link

If Leonard is adamant he wants out, then I reckon £500K should do it. I just don't see the chairman turning down good money and letting him walk for nothing in 12 months

Do you reckon Brown / the board will keep him if he rejects the new deal and let him run his contract down? If it was us then we would no doubt sell the player to the highest offer for a bit of money.

£500k? McCabe hasn't spent that much since he redecorated his Mayfair flat.

Move on. Fuck em. There's a few good cheap uns to be found in Scotland. ;)

I would think that Lenny will turn down a new deal even if the money is v good. It's the higher level of football he wants and I can't blame him for that. It does look as if the Board are determined to hang on to him, certainly until January. Whether that determination could be massaged with an offer of £500k+ is anyone's guess. I still don't rule that out. Having watched the lad for many seasons I believe he would still perform as he has in the past for us either to January or to the end of next season.

Southend supporters would be very happy to bend over and then you guys could zoom off to Scotland. It's a solution that would certainly work for Southend fans.

I think our last 500k was on Moore wasnt It? Like I've pointed out on a different thread- a position we were crying out for.

In terms of positions we're crying out for nothing else comes close to centre half. I'd like us to get one in over the next week before the friendlies start so we can start building an understanding amongst the back 4/3

650k on Baldock allegedly as well.
True.
That kinda craps all over my point that we only splash the cash for positions we are desperate for though. Assuming im right in thinking Baldock is only going to be cover/competition.

Alex Bruce?

Do other football clubs fans forums have monster threads about random central midfielders that we probably won't sign... or is it just us?

The fact is there is only us and perhaps Bolton and Millwall that wouldn't already of not got him in the championship by now if they wanted him.
I'm becoming decidedly unimpressed by this penny pinching

I have criticised McCabe many a time but I genuinely think this is a Wilder decision. He has a valuation in mind for players and if it goes above that then he thinks we can get better elsewhere for the money. I really don't think Wilder is begging for an extra £200,000 for Leoanard and Holmes
