Picture this.
Today, I'm at the start of a meeting in Cincinnati, pitching for a contract to import stuff to the UK.
The conversation turns to sport and I'm asked if I like football.
"No, soccer" I reply, assuming he's like the average American.
"That's what I meant" he replied.
"Oh, I thought...."
"No, I love football. Which team do you support?"
Regrettably, I said something like, "Oh, You probably haven't heard of us" (Sorry Bladey Blades!)
"Go on, who is it then?" he asked.
"Sheffield United" I replied.
"REALLY?" he said. "I was trained by a Sheffield United player....Alan, oh what was his name"
"Not Alan Woodward was it?" I asked him.
"YEAH, THAT'S HIM. Great coach and a great man"
The deal was in the bag from that moment!
He did take a little shine off the conversation though when he said,
"Is it true that he once scored a goal from the half field?"
Bloody Americans!!
