Stokes looks good on both occasions he's come on, willing to run at people. Blacky said on RS that the lads are adament that it was a goal.

He has looked the part in both of his cameo appearances and i hope he is fit enough to start on Saturday. Looks like Billy may be set for a spell on the bench following a decent showing from Webber too; if only he could rediscover his finishing touch!

Stokes looks a lot more dangerous down the left than Quinny. The little leprechaun is not a wide player.

To be fair though, Quinny wasn't too bad today... not compared to Cotterill on the other side.
We did go a little narrow in midfield after half time, but when you've got Naughton at right back, you can cope with that.
I don't think Stokes is quite fit from what's been said, but I should hope that with a full week's training and his appearance today, he should be there or thereabouts for Saturday.
I thought Cotterill was unlucky to be withdrawn as he was once again the only midfielder with the ability to run past his man in the 1st half.
I thought Quinn was much better when he was moved inside but his inablity to beat his man means he offers very little out wide.

Looks good, thought in second half both wingers were excellent. Except Webber couldn't finish that's all

Cotterill can run past a man, but it doesn't really help matters when he either goes back to take him on again when you've got team mates in space, or dallies on the ball to get dispossessed
He's like a white Peter Ndlovu!

I though Cotterill was better, but I can completely understand why he was withdrawn.
His ball retention was poor, although at times he did create fairly well.... when he wasn't just losing the ball
The other issue is, he repeatedly came inside when they had the ball, leaving Naughton exposed and many a time leaving his man completely unmarked.
During one of their attacks, he tracked his man for 6 yards before pointing at him and wandering off into the middle of the park to watch, leaving him completely unmarked with Naughton already stretched.

What about when he watched Kyle pick up the ball at RB and run past him virtually to the bi-line and never moved instead of helping and providing an option. I thought Cotts was poor tonight and I have never slated him yet. Wasn't at all surprised when he got subbed.

The one that really annoyed me was when a space opened up I was shouting at Cotts to run into (he should know that himself, being a professional footballer), Naughton held up almost willing for him to realise and bloody shift instead of just staring at him.... then released the ball into the space, only for Cotts to still be stood watching. Shortly after, Cotts chipped the ball down the line at the defender and far too hard and had a go at Naughton for not being on the end of it!

Something else that was frustrating in one of the most frustrating matches I have seen for a long time. Cotterill has got the pace, the skill and the ability to put in decent crosses but is not producing it often enough.

I also thought that Squinny went in strongly in some tackles and held players off more than usual. Maybe that's because they were all youngsters though ....

I think that Cotts has exactly the same problem as many wingers, Keef in particular as far as we're concerned, which is that he's a confidence player. I have to say that I didn't think he had a good first half today, but when you've got the nobheads on your back, it must be difficult to lift yourself.
I nearly smacked a few round me tonight for their helpful insights.
My problem was that he was playing like a 'holding winger' at times. What I mean is that he was going forward with purpose, then holding back, as if he was expected to defend after he'd released the ball.
We (the clearly knowledgeable mob, including sufclucy) all said that he had to go for Stokes, but purely because he's off colour. He's a lot better than he's been showing recently.

I disagree completely.
It is easy to scapegoat a winger who attempts to take his man on becasue he will lose the ball quite often; unless he is Christeano Ronaldo of course.
That is why the likes of David White, Peter Ndlovu, Paul Ifill, Kazim Richards Richards, Lee Martin and now David Cotterill take the scorn of some fans.
The fact is that poeple are crying out for our midfielders to push on and provide more creativity but then try to do so and are unsuccessful some of the time they get crucified when they lose the ball.
Quinn rarely takes his man on and so it may look like he is doing a better job for the team but how many goals has he assisted from the flank?
Cotts beat his man quite a few times yesterday and provided a great cross (nobody there) on one occassion and put himself in goal scoring positions on a couple of other occassions. Once the lad gets a bit of confidence (unlikely if he keeps getting dragged off) i dare say you will see more of an end product.
It is a game of opinions of course but, as i am top of the forum fantasy footy, mine is obviously correct
