Rumours keep surfacing, and more so today from the Wolves end.

Is it just me who's seriously not bothered about having him back? I think we need to do much better. We should be improving the squad, not bringing in players who couldn't get in the side last year in League One... he showed some serious weaknesses against average League One sides last year, he'll get torn to shreds by some frontlines in the Champ.

He was great last year till around the time he signed that new contract at Wolves when his performances took a nosedive. And he's only really good in that RCB spot, in the centre he looks lost.

Think we could do better.

I do agree to an extent. Can't distract from the brilliant job he did when he first came in but he dropped to the bench when it was apparent he wasn't quite as good as the others once they'd found their feet. I think we can do better too.

Agree. At the risk of upsetting folk for not "trusting Wilders judgement",I have doubts about this guy.
One reason above all others.
If he isn't deemed good enough for a mediocre Championship outfit I don't see him as good enough for us.
I think the contract he got whilst playing well on loan with us was purely to secure a bigger than appropriate fee for him if we looked to sign him long term.

He'd make healthy competition for the 3 centre half spots, but we'd still need that one defender possibly two who we can be assured will be good enough for the championship

Saw what you like but his agent/advisors have played a blinder over the past 12 months.

Secured him a cracking loan deal, which in turn got a him a new contract and now they're leveraging that to get him a move.

Fair play.

I'd definitely have him back. Granted, he wasn't outstanding last year but he was very good, just got overshadowed by the class around him. While he may not be the solution to our defensive problems and he may not be quite good enough yet, what he is is a young, English centre half with tonnes of potential who's only going to develop and improve, and that's what you want at your club. If we can get him at a good price then it's a no brainier from my viewpoint.

Think people quickly forget how much this game is about form. When he was in form then he would have walked in as our best centre half. When he lost form then he looked average. If Wilder thinks that he can become the player he was when he first joined us he should snap him up however, if he has any reservations he should look elsewhere. Also depends on how much Wolves want of course. He isn't worth a lot in my opinion but at £250k or perhaps pushed to £500k I'd be of a mind to take a punt.

The forum police will be all over this.......

Don't see how any of that relates to whether he's actually good enough for what we need and where we are NOW.
True though.

Would I rather have an on form Brayford......yes.
Can we do better than Landell.......Definately.
But who?.............J.

1.He lost his place through injury.
2.More Bladey cap-doffing to the might of other teams.

La plus ça change...

Brayford isn't a centre-back. I don't care where he played for soon to be relegated Burton. He isn't big enough or strong enough.

Why is pointing out the FACT that Wolves, who finished a hugely unimpressive 15th last season and had a pretty good flirt with relegation for a while don't see him as worthy even of a squad place next season in the league we will be looking to flourish in any form of Bladey anything?

Because Wolves are manifestly not unimpeachable in their decision making, as witnessed by their hugely unimpressive 15th last season. You're a bit hoist by your own petard, there mate!

My comment wasn't particularly aimed at you, by the way.

One of the symptoms of B.I.C. is the notion that other clubs always get things right and we never do.

I'm just thinking that although he's an average player!!. He might just be worth a punt?. Wilder could get the best out of him!. The other thing is consider is who else is out there without costing silly money?.

Apologies for the error in my post.

Is B.I.C

Blades Inferior Complex?

Of course they're not. Interesting that 2 managers don't really want him around though. Obviously we get things right quite frequently, especially over the last 12 months. I just don't think EEL is what we need,it's an opinion based on seeing him frequently and on the clear understanding the quality of player he will be up against next season will be better week in week out.
I would,as always be very happy to be proved wrong, but that dosen't lessen the right to express an opinion based soley on what I've seen first hand and entirely free of any agenda.

Decent Squad player for me - and no matter what people say about only signing players to improve the side we do actually need a squad to choose from. Plus he's an improvement on Wilson, and shouldn't be too expensive.

Also for all the talk of his performances dipping - probably worth noting that a good few of those were without Wright in the side organising the defence - all our centre backs looked worse without wright in the imo.

Re your new contract comments I've just had exactly that conversation with a mate. Along with your last comment.

Totally agree with you sir, but all though EEL is big n strong enough, he's also shite.

If we go with EEL, who i think in a back three with an experienced player next to him would do a very good job. Not a starter as i think in a back three Basham will be the preferred option, but very good cover.
Will EEL want to come as cover? I dont think so.

Positives:

Continuity - new signing but not a new face, minimising any disruption to last season's squad, and he's a good character.

Still has time on his side and development left in him.

If we get him for under 400k then I'm sure he'll be worth at least that in the future, so it's low risk.

His form later in the season was apparently partly due to playing with an injury. It's possible we could get him playing at his early season level consistently.

Negatives:

Not someone to rely on and increases the need for another CB we can totally rely on.

He couldn't play LCB, and if the other CB will be someone to play in the middle, we could do with someone to cover both RCB and LCB.
