I remember him warming up doing the keepers pre-match regime bang inline with us on the John St & he didn't stop one ! Me and the lads were thinking this isn't looking too clever .. come kick off all doubts dispelled , he had a worldy against the scousers on his debut & continued the form there on ... one of our best .It was Rees in goal n he was awesome!
Salmons goal was at the Kop End. It was an intended cross from the left that went over Man u's keeper John Connaughton (who joined us later that year)April 4th 1972, drew 1-1 with Man United who equalised in the last minute. Geoff Salmons scored for United. Sat in the Bramall Lane upper tier with my Dad.
Ey up pal.1975,pigs v millwall.
The same people took me as took your Mrs....I think they were trying to convert us.Ey up pal.
Bit surprised that was your 1st game as my miissus (anne) was going with me by then.
Sad news as my old man passed away last thursday . My total reason for being a blade and the provider of that template for the bertie blade tat.
Goody
The same people took me as took your Mrs....I think they were trying to convert us.
As you know, all the family were pigs but me, so I'd no one to go with, until Mel Booker stepped up,took me with him and his brother, and started me going regular to the Lane.
I'm sorry to hear about your Dad,sincerest condolences from me and mine pal.
First game I ever went to was Don Megsons testimonial. My best friend as a kid,and still my best mate half a century later had a pig Dad, but he wasn't really, just a dead cool Dad who took his son and me to football.
Second game I ever went to was with my pal and his Dad and also at the sty. I sat on my mates Dads shoulders on the Lepps end as Man U beat the pigs 3-1. George 2 and Bobby 1 I think, could be wrong. Also went to the Santos game, still got the programme. As a High Storrs pupil Tim Mardell let us go in lieu of a detention to make up for lost time.
My first game at The Lane was the 3-2 v the pigs.
I was a Blade after the first visit to the sty as I hated everything about it.
Subsequent happy visits there were the 2-1 Man City victory that sent them down and our 3 1 victory. I have been there for the zenith Bob Booker game. Also the league cup when Peters was our manager. The big one when Brum took their kop,the 5 4 v Man U and sadly Boxing Day.
I hate the place and seriously wonder if I'll go this season. Probably will as I would hate to miss a 4-0 reverse and rewrite history..
Anyone else as fervent a Blade yet went elsewhere first?
The following Saturday , my Uncle (all mums side Blades , all Dads Owls) took me to BDTBL - as soon as i walked in the ground i felt different and energised - the match finished 3-3 after we trailed 3 - 0 with 20 mins left only for Currie , Woody and Tudor to score (i think they were the three) .
hi SBT
My first game was Rotherham v Millwall which my next door neighbour took me to - it was 0-0 and dire . The following Tuesday night , my dad , a mad Weds supporter , took me to watch Weds v Cardiff - finished 2-1 to Weds and i thought it was slightly better.
It was brilliant and the following game i went to was the 3-2 win over Weds you refer to - the rest of that season as they say is history and a fantastic time to be a Blade.
Happy Happy days - especially Cardiff and Watford at home at the end of that season - Scullion hitting the post for Watford from the half way line then Sir John signing him .
Happy days ahead too - i can feel it in my Um Bongo
