Mackems offered to triple Mcinness's wages from Aberdeen and he still turned them down....
They're a complete mess and Sheffield United are currently a brighter prospect and Wilders a blade

I wouldnt worry too much lads and lasses...

Be like leaving a place hes become a hero to go somewhere where anything less than an instant return to the prem will mean he lasts 12 months compared to the security him and his family have in their home town.
Be utter madness when he knows that if he takes us up he will become god like and wont ever need money here

Know what you mean but we were a right mess too a year ago, Wilder strikes me as the sort of fella that would embrace the challenge.

It won't happen because he's in his dream job but it would tempt him otherwise I'm sure. Don't forget, Chris was managing in the conference a few years ago so the Sunderland job would be a massive step up under normal circumstances.

Become a god? He became a god last year!

Know what you mean though, a few bad results as manager there and he'd be on his bike.

You're underestimating just how tough the Sunderland job is going to be and just how much of a mess the club is in

Theyve just lost Pickford and will lose Defoe in the coming weeks pretty much they're only decent players this season

The majority of the squad want away, and the ones that dont are too over the hill and too old to play in a team whos ambition it is, is too gain promotion

They're over 100m in debt with an owner with who openly admits he wants away with a clueless ex model as a managing director with no money to spendand are struggling to attract a manager from the pub leagues

No manager worth his salt will currently touch that club atleast until its sold as he will have no assuarances until the new ownership is in place.

Would Wilder leave if a premier league came calling?
Quite possibly
But no chance he will leave for Sunderland

Agree that the question mark over the ownership will put some off, but him being a blade will definitely have a big impact on the decision here more than that. Take of the red and white tinted glasses and it would be a step up considering where the clubs have been over the past 5years.

These lot think he's lined up for an interview to tomorrow. I'm sure we would have heard about it if so given his links to fellow blades.

Load of bollox if you ask me.

"Why would he leave a cushy job at his hometown club who've just been promoted to the same division and who possibly have a better chance at hitting the playoffs???"

"Fuck off you piece of shit"

:D

I did like that one :) :) :)

I can see Sunderland doing a Blackburn , the clubs been badly tun for 3 or 4 years escaping the bullit by a whisker in 3 previous years but not this time , and the squad is useless full of Hammond quality players. I wouldnt be surprised to see them struggle big time this season .
CW is canny enough to not jump ship to another championship club thats no bigger than us , we can get 30k plus in the prem and take thousands away and he will never hear the song hes one of our own

Also think the other 2 relegated clubs will find it very difficult to compete.
Hull didnt impress at any stage , doing the exact opposite to what we did 4 good games then went downhill
Middlesborough have some decent players but again look vulnerable , and found scoring really difficult. Be surprised if more than one is in the top 6 , if any despite parachute money which has failed to help more than 1 club per season for years now

One of my best mates is a big Sunderland fan and I go up there regular , their club is in a right fkg state £150m in debt and stuck with an ageing playing squad on long contracts so not easy to sort out no mattter who goes in there so unless an investor is gonna throw silly money at them that's gonna take years to sort out . The clubs been run like a comedy for the last 5+ years , it's not recent that their up for sale been up for sale for ages but Ellis Short wants his money back which ain't gonna happen . A lot up there are expecting them to be the next us , Leeds , Forest and end up in the 3rd tier . Some good lads up there who follow them like us through thick & thin in numbers . As said its says it all when McInnes turns em down , CW stock is high so is bound to get linked with Sunderland and alike after turning us Northampton around , he'll not go there but the board do not want to take his loyalty for granted , if we get a good start to season , the first sackings in prem usually start around Nov , that's when bigger fish will get dangled in front of him

Agree with that. If he's doing well with us next season the Prem clubs will come calling but not the bigger ones. If they sack their manager it's not Chris Wilder they'll be looking at.

The rest on a level playing field we're bigger than anyway. Half the Premier League is made up of clubs with smaller fan bases than us and Chris will know if he can get us there, United could be a well established medium sized club in the Premiership.

Despite what was said I still have a nagging worry about what or who was really behind the Evans signing.

I just get the feeling things are not quite as happy and settled as they were in April.

A firm commitment and new extended contact in the next week would put a few worries to rest.

The problem with giving Wilder more money and a longer contract is that it has no affect what's so ever in stopping any PL in taking him.

Wilder himself has explained that he's more interested in career progression, the right club at the right time.
He talks about NOT wanting mercenary players that are always looking at financial reward above anything else. Work hard....keep performing well on a consistent level....THEN the financial rewards will follow. He would look a hypocrite if he's now desperately wanting more money before he's even managed a single game in the Championship.

There's an issue that has plagued SU for the last 10 years. It's called SECOND SEASON SYNDROME.
Blackwell, Wilson, Clough were all excellent and impressive in their 1st seasons with us. We all thought we'd finally found a good manager playing good open entertaining football. They all rightfully earned improved contracts then in the 2nd season the playing style changed, more cautious and we weren't as good.

So maybe the board have finally learnt their lesson and will wait until part way thru the 2nd season before reviewing the managers contract.

Personally I think Wilder will give SU 2 or 3 years minimum, could be longer if we're successful.
See what support he gets from the board regards recruitment and when he feels he's outgrown the club he'll move on to a bigger club with a clear concience and he'll still be able to remain popular in his home town of Sheffield where he lives.

So what you're saying is, the board shouldn't give him a new contract in case he turns out to be a bit shit? What kind of message does that send to him?
We've been here with Warnock. It was extremely cost effective to not renew his contract. From a footballing perspective and a man management perspective, it was foolish. If it's true that he's still on less than Adkins (and I caveat this heavily because I don't know if it is) then it's very poor form from someone with a history of poor form.

The board need to back him enough or accept the potential consequences, its very simple.
Dead easy to spend other people's money.

You want to chuck a couple of million in?

If Wilder practices what he preaches then he is going nowhere, if his head is turned by better budgets or bigger wages then by his own words "he is not right for us and their are plenty of other fish in the sea"

In such a case I would expect McCabe to drive him up the road as Wilder offered to with players with excessive demands that didn't meet our structure.

May be a case of writing to see if he will practice what he preaches, I'm confident that he will still be here this time next year. It's where he wants to be.

Wilder couldn't press his philosophy of 'loyalty over money' to all his potential signings then run at the sniff of a triple wage rise for no real career progression.

And he wouldn't.

About as subtle as a house brick that post but also right on the button. Couldn't have put it better myself. Might upset a few on here but harsh truth usually does.

Personally I could see him tempted, £x million and set up for life, who wouldn't? But not yet, as others have said, he's got it to prove yet. If you're on the outside looking in, getting SUFC from L1 to the championship is not a big deal and does not qualify you for the Prem. Sunderland? Not a fucking prayer.

It's fair to dish out contracts based on cvs/ achievement, not based on what someone might achieve.
Even Wilder himself woukd say to all his players.....achievement comes before reward.
Adkins had a fantastic cv and his ACHIEVEMENTS meant he deserved a great salary.
Adkins stock has lowered so now based on achievements he won't be able to command such a good salary.

Surely Wilder would listen to his own advice, very much doubt he's a bullshitter and hypocrite.
Wilder has nothing to worry about. If we're doing well at Xmas he'll be able throw the spot light back on the board and say look what I'm doing...... now give me an appropriate reward as promised.
I believe Wilder is a man of principle and if we mess him about whilst achieving in the Championship THEN he'll look elsewhere. I've no doubt he'll leave his home town club with his head held high.

Don't forget Wilder has one of the poorest cvs of any manager we've appointed.
His appointment was a last throw of the dice because we were desperate and he was relatively cheap.
In the football world getting us promoted from league 1 isn't such a big deal or achievement.
However if we go very close next season and just miss out in the playoffs then we will face serious pressure to keep him. However at present Wilder is a novice at Championship level and we are the perfect club to test out his skills at the higher level.

It's my only slight worry as well.

The fact he's bringing in players from lower leagues doesn't bother me. He's done business early, which gives me confidence. I'd rather we build slowly and gradually, with players who possess potential, than buy cast-offs.

Players have promotion wage-roses in their contracts. I presume managers do as well. As long as he's getting a pay rise, I'm not sure there's a need to extend at this stage. That decision should be taken around Christmas.

Wilder will stay put at bdtbl!. Sunderland have basically been turned down by average Scottish manager who basically told them to fuck off!!. They're fucked financially and wilder wouldn't want that!!. Sunderland might be able to tempt Adkins?. In wilder we trust. Utb

So why doesn't Wilder or the club say something?
