Can't understand people not wanting this to happen.

If we get 1 season off him it would be worth it. He would instantly be the best defender at the club. Do people not watch MOTD? Did they not see his performances, particularly at the end of last season.

For some of us it's more a case of knowing there's zero chance of it happening. I can't see why there's even a discussion around it. We might as well start a rumour about Gary Cahill coming back.

Oh dear , rumours of other incoming centrebacks are conspicuous by their absence.
I fear we are getting ol' handball back , to join ol' fire-escape.
I thought CW was the man to unearth new heros , not drag old ones in.

Yeah, imagine a newly promoted championship team signing a centre back who has just finished the season in the back four of a top 8 premier league club.

What would they be thinking?!

I don't think this is realistic by any stretch but if it was to come off I would welcome it, I appreciate what people are saying but imagine how good JOC would be by May after a season alongside Jags.

I can't help but feel Wright and Duffy may struggle next season, nothing more than a hunch so Jags would be a welcome experienced steady head in that back 3 he would sit perfectly between JOC and whoever else we bring in if CW decides to not to play Brayford there

Bookies don't feel the same

Bookies don't feel the same

Bookies don't feel anything.

If I went and chucked a grand on, the odds would shorten further. If four of us did it, further still.

Or it could just be that the bookies DO know something or someone does and they have lumped on!

Who knows?

It's unlikely as Jags would have to probably lose 75% of his weekly wage to play here - would any further England involvement disappear if he played in the Championship as well?

I'm aware that you could be on the wind up here however.....

I have recently posted about how bookies odds are generated (so have others). Bookies odds mean nothing and are not determined by their opinion.

If Birmingham have a chance of signing Terry then we have a chance with Jagielka.

I think he's got 3 choices.

1) Everton
2) Blades
3) MLS

I honestly think if he's playing in England next season it's us or everton.

I'd be suprised if conversations havent been had, however tentative they may have been (or be). We need a centre half, he's a superb one, a free agent and has strong ties to the club. At that point it'll then come down to the following two tick boxes:

a) Will Jags take a monumental pay cut from his current package (and less than he's likely to get elsewhere)
b) Does CW believe he's joining for the right reasons, fits into the dressing room from a personal perspective and can improve our squad

If it doesnt happen, then in all likehood question a) is where it'll fall apart.

He'll probably receive other, more lucrative offers from low Prem, high Champ clubs e.g. Sunderland, Hull. What he does next will really depend on whether he has a future playing career at Everton and his motivations i.e. money v playing at high level v new challenge v coaching opportunities v affection for Utd.

Bookies have to start somewhere when forming a book. This is done by information they have knowledge of etc. After that price changes are usually done by opinion but also by futher information they recieve and so forth. So yes, price can effect a market but so can other external factors. People trot out the line "big dave probably had 25 quid on it" but its not always the case.

He isn't a free agent, there's one year left on his current deal.

Everton finished 7th with Jags a prominent member of their team.

If he did leave, which is by no means certain, probably with few exceptions, most of the 13 teams who finished below Everton would see him having a positive impact for them.

Then you have your Wolves, Fulham with rich owners, Norwich with their parachute payments, the three promoted teams.

There must be the best part of 20 other clubs he could go to in the UK before the Blades. It's not like he bleeds Red and White like Billy or Wilder. He was born in Manchester and spent the majority of his football education at Everton before joining our Academy.

He's not going to take a 75% wage cut, when he might negotiate a free from Everton, pocket a multi-million signing on fee and almost get 75-100% of his current wage. And if we needed to come near that, I wouldn't want us to spend such lavish sums with no potential return other than hoping he proves to be some insatiable catalyst that sends us to the PL, then all is forgiven. I'd prefer a few well placed bids on players like Maddison who would almost definitely double in value in a year after exposure at Championship level.

You're dreaming. Sorry just my opinion.

Terry is finished. Barely plays anymore. Jags is still playing regularly and well for Everton. I see no reason why they would move him on and if they did there would be plenty of takers higher up with bigger contract offers. Wilder has said before he won't have someone on much more money than everyone else.

A highly doubt his odds started as short as some of the figures quoted on here.

What must his salary be nowadays? Do people honestly think he's going to take a 75% cut to come to us? If he does leave Everton he will have loads of better financial options.

If he's not put enough away, by now, to secure his, his kids and his Grandkids futures, then he needs to sack his Accountant...He should be more than comfortable enough to follow his heart and not his Wallet.

His heart may not be with the Blades? I don't see Jags as someone with a massive yearning to come back to the Blades, I don't think we will see him in the red and white stripes again.

If Jagielka doesn't sign for a championship club Terry will be the best CB in the league.

These players are seriously next level. Who are the best CBs in the championship? People say Dan Burn and Jake Buxton etc. Jags and Terry at 36 are better than they'll ever be

I never said it was. It was more a point of "All odds are bollocks, they are just based on peoples bets" which people seem to roll out as "experts" every time anyone mentions odds.

Absolutely, but my point still stands - Surely he has enough money, after 10 years in the Premiership, to pick and choose his next move and not let finances dictate his decision.

What does Jags want to do?

Be an aging also ran in a lower league premier league team ( and yes, earning decent money) or does he want to actually achieve something with a Championship club where the demands are not quite so high and therefore probably prolong his footballing life by an extra couple of years? He could still earn decent money with us, if United think it is worth it.

For me, it is absolutely vital that we have a sensible, decently fit, CENTRE HALF who is experienced. We had this last season with Jake Wright, and what a difference he made to the team. He just oozed confidence on the ball, did nothing fancy and was generally a 2 or 3 touch footballer. He just laid it off simply to someone in space.

IF JW can't do that this season a division higher then we need someone who can. If it's JAGS then fine, if not, then it has to be someone else - we NEED an experinced centre half. People should remember, we got dumped out of this league 6 years ago because we lost Morgs early on in the season and ended up with crap at centre half and crap in centre midfield, resulting in relegation.

WE NEED AN EXPERIENCED CENTRE HALF - or 2 for that matter, but certainly 1.

It's got to be Tom Lee's.

Over on Porktalk they are seriously asking the question if Harry Maguire is worth £17 million what is Tom Lee's worth.
