Hang in there, The Shrimpster. If anyone knows what it's like to be asset-stripped, it's us !

For my money you should give up the Sarfend, do an JonnyRed(WCFC), accept the inevitable, and begin preparing for the long commute to Bramall Lane next year :)

And thanks again for your Leonard updates, btw. We're not all condescending twats ...

its like losing your senses and then rediscovering them, or something like that!! :)

Doesn't matter to you Blades fans but this is now a big summer for us. Confirmed in the last half an hour that Will Atkinson, one of our three current centre midfielders has left to join Mansfield. Should Leonard leave, we will only have one CM left.
Is that your chairmans fault with inadequate contract planning? Im surprised we didnt offer you Ben Whiteman who we sent to Doncaster or Louis reed on loan to help fill the gap. I guess thats cos the sticking part of the transfer is Leonard himself unfortunately for us

We wouldn't have wasted our time bidding for him if he hadn't have given us the nod.

Are we going to sign this guy then?

This thread has turned humongous for no particular reason

So whats the latest with this. He coming to us or not?

Officially Southend have said they haven't accepted a bid from any club yet but there is significant interest. It seems we've bid at least twice. No doubt its ongoing. It seems Ryan Bennett is more likely to be the next signing based on the press today, before Leonard might.

It's all about money I guess. Realistically, I can't see Bolton having enough resources to get him (and I particularly dislike Parkinson anyway), Millwall would be unthinkable to most Southend fans for reasons that are probably universal to most other clubs (but Neil Harris and Adam Barrett have both played for us recently and Lenny has a lot of respect for Adam), and then there's you guys. Ron Martin is obviously holding out for as much as he can get and your bid hasn't reached that yet, and may never get there. There may be the final possibility, that we tempt him to one last season with us and let him go on a free at the end unless we go up.

I can't imagine a league 1 club being able to turn down close to £500,000, his valuation is dropping all the time and doubt Southend can afford to allow their best players to leave on a free transfer.

Another realistic option is for Southend to persuade Leonard that they have big ambitions for promotion next season, so he's stays for his final season.

Then it's all reviewed again in the JTW
If Southend are in the top 2 or 3, then your Chairman may well risk keeping him to the end of the season BUT if Southend are outside the top 6 then he would probably decide to cash in for £100K or £200 K or so.

So Wilder may go back in for him and get his man in January18.

It may be time to move on...I can't see CW wanting this to drag on much longer.

Seaside, how come you are losing players to Mansfield ? You nearly made the play offs and they are a division lower, something's not quite right there is it ? Suggests to me Leonard will definitely be leaving must a question of where is he going.

Or they could offer him a new three year deal with a release clause if they don't get promoted next season. Or wait while other clubs miss out on their first targets and put a bid in for Leonard.

The window isn't even open yet. If CW has another target for this position who's equally as good he should be talking to him too. If he hasn't, then we need to either sit this out til its conclusion or meet the asking price.

If Wilder r8 wants the lad he'll play the long game if needs be. If he stops pursuing him we can assume that he doesn't r8 want him enough and he'll move on. I reckon he's one Wilder r8 wants though, he's just playing it r8 cool.

Mansfield are the new Fleetwood. Aside from the fact they've been in League Two or the National League for a while now, they've had money pumped into them. Atkinson has family in Yorkshire, and whilst Mansfield isn't Yorkshire, it's obviously a hell of a lot closer than Southend.

But that, in turn, begs the question, why not join a northern League One side? In my opinion, the answer to that is game-time. He probably knew we are looking to strengthen our midfield but didn't like the idea of being a squad player.

Current Leonard status: Nothing new...yet.

You may as well ignore EFL Insider. We haven't accepted bids from any club. That has been confirmed by our local sports reporter.

Last week, they said that David Mirfin would join Port Vale following his departure from Scunthorpe. He joined Mansfield the following day.

Fuck me this one is dragging out. I think it would have moved by now if happening.

Something needs to happen soon with this one.

I don't think this will happen. I imagine Wilder has moved on by now. Personally I think he ought to have done anyway.

Depends the leon Clarke signing seemed to drag on...

if the difference is over say 100k or some of the clauses in the contract. its probably worth haggling abit more - if the bid and asking price are a million miles apart then it would be best to move on and start working on new targets.
