I'm a bit OCD when it comes to squad numbers. It upset me when Brayford was given the no.5 shirt and then pleased when Wilder reverted him to the No.2 shirt. I did however wonder about McNulty being given 7 and Scougs 8 though (It pained me when Beattie was assigned No.6!).

It would seem that CW is of a similar mentality, however I wonder whether the manager chooses or do the players get a say in which number they are assigned. I presume some players will request a certain number and in other cases, they couldn't care less and are assigned one by the manager.

I can't see any of the current squad changing their squad number, apart from Carruthers and possibly Moore, so I think Coutts will retain the No.15 shirt. I think Carruthers would get 7 or 8.

Me too. For me the only permissible variations is that 4 can be the holding midfielder and 6 the centre-back, or vice versa. At a pinch, 8 can be the second striker and 10 a midfielder, provided the owner of that shirt is a god-like presence a la TC. 11 should always play down the left, 7 down the right. No 5 should be the biggest and ugliest player on the pitch.

3-5-2, 4-2-3-1 or any of this other modern football fancy-dan nonsense totally fucks this up, of course.

Why not just pick 4 then?
