He also had a pretty good rest not playing much of last season.

We can look forward to a fully fit player with a proper pre-season's training and preparation of the highest order delivered by a thoroughly professional team. We then have to consider how Ched created his own chances before blasting 34 goals of stunning quality in League 1. Then consider the effect on a very successful team of losing him; we went from promotion certs showing unbeatable form to a team then showing relegation form. The psychological effect on his team-mates was devastating. Anyone who thinks this lad can't cut it alongside the players we have seen dominate League 1 this time around aren't thinking logically.
Back then we were heavily dependant on him; let's be frank - there's no way that Billy Sharp would have scored 34 goals in that team going for promotion that season. Billy's value to us cannot be over-estimated; he has been amazing this season. The prospects are stunning, and CW must be rubbing his hands together. Nothing is certain of course - Ched must get fully fit, and must show he's prepared to work his socks off and be a good team member. If he does, the smart money should be on the Blades next season.
Its your opinion and youre entitled to it mate. But i am really amazed at how high an esteem many hold Ched in.
He scored a lot of goals 5 years ago in the 3rd division. He has no proven championship record.
Its impossible to compare Billy of this season to Ched of 5 years ago with any certainty. Billy has been superb this year.
The prospects are totally unknown. i think a lot of us are thinking he has been crap this season and hardly played, my expectations are really low.
i would love to be wrong on this and hope he does brilliantly, but he may well not.

I didn't compare Billy's form this season with Ched's of 5 years ago; I suggested that Billy wouldn't have scored 34 goals that season playing in that team. Billy has played in a better team with much better midfield and flank support that Ched had. I also said that nothing is certain, but suggested the prospects were very good. Obviously I have an optomistic view of how Ched will fare at Championship level, and hope you're wrong too. Fingers crossed Eh?
I acknowledge those players did prove to be Championship quality, though sometimes I would question their motivation despite their reputations. What isn't in question though is that the Blades this season were considerably superior to the Blades that season, and that's the main reason I drew conclusions about Ched's abilities as a goal scorer.Well the midfield you mention that ched had included Quinn, Williamson and macdonald who are proven championship players, which our current midfield aren't (yet). He also had lowton who is now a proven premier league player on the flank. Billy may have scored 34 or more, who knows? Its a moot point really and one we cannot prove either way.
I have a pessimistic view after years of failure at bdtbl, but hope for the best. Things look rosy at present but things can change quickly in football. lets hope things change quickly for Ched. fingers crossed indeed.
If you think Freeman for Lowton, Coutts for KMac and Cressy doing the Done/Lavery role for Billy I don't think there's a lot in it tbh. I think Billy would have done well in that side, as he has this season.Well the midfield you mention that ched had included Quinn, Williamson and macdonald who are proven championship players, which our current midfield aren't (yet). Not sure what role Evans will play next season. I'm not convinced Billy will want to run around for him like Cressy did. Will he be Billy's cover, given he's a year older and at a higher level and might not play as much as he has this season? Basically, an upgrade on McNulty?
If I could just add.....I have still never seen anyone strike a dead ball as well as Evans....can't remember who against, but recall a certain free kick miles out that I said to my brother....what the chuff is he doing looking to shoot that far out...next minute sweet Jesus of Nazareth...he smashed the ball which just dipped and smashed off the cross bar before ricocheting pretty much back to where he was.
Shocked just a lot!
After that I just said "shoot....always shoot"
Wycombe away? I seem to remember him cracking one onto the bar like that down there

Gavlar,
Can I ask if you went to many games in 2012 or are you just judging Cheds stats.
I was never a fan of Ched and thought he was one of our worse signings based on his 1st 2 years
But in his final season he was phenomenal producing the most dominant and impressive displays from a striker since the days of Brian Deane. He was head and shoulders above league 1 level and arguably the hottest property in league 1.
You can make some comparisons between Sharp and Ched.
Ched dominated and impressed in league 1 in 2012 far far more than what Sharp has done in league 1 this season . However of course Ched has been out of action for years so is now an unknown quantity. It's a risk, a gamble, however I'm sure Wilder won't be over reliant on Ched finding fitness and form.
My point is that those that don't understand the football reasons why we have bought him tend to be Wednesdayites or Blades that hardly attend matches. We've seen with our own eyes that he has produced some of the best individual striker displays this century. He's still young so logic suggests as long as we don't pay too much and have other striker options then it's worth the risk.

I'm sure I remember a game at the Lane when we were doing badly in the relegation season. The opposition scored and Ched shot straight from the resultant kick off. The shot was that hard the keeper had to parry it as he couldn't catch it. It might be my memory playing tricks though.
I'm not at all sure we should have re-signed him, for lots of reasons. But if he gets pitch-time next year, he will surely get a few goals from free-kicks. Grizzly blade makes a point I was making to a bloke at work, just last week. Evans can whack a ball like bloody Hot Shot Hamish (apologies to younger readers). And if the game that Grizzle is thinking of was at home, and the shot that hit the bar was at the kop end, I remember it vividly too !
I remember thinking during his first season how weird it was to have a striker could strike the ball so well, but scored so rarely (4 in 38 apps).
