Just seen the local news here!. They had pictures of the Bolton team celebrating with a league 1 trophy!! Obviously from a few yeas ago!!!. They're having an open top bus tour on Tuesday evening to celebrate promotion!!!. They're treating it as though they'd just won the league by 14 points!!. Talk about being fucking delusional!.

To be fair, this promotion for Bolton is probably bigger than winning any trophy.
They're already in serious financial trouble and failure to gain promotion cud have seen them doing a Portsmouth.

Very disappointed that Bolton have joined us, after their gobshite fans came on here giving it all that. Mind the 14 pt gap, and the 25 pt turnaround lads.

Not like we have never done the same when finishing second.

Oxalona ( oxford ) were the same last year when they finished 2nd behind us but got to give them credit they was the best team in the world at the time

You guys have absolutely smashed it, 100 points is incredible. Especially as you were bottom after the 4 games. Looking forward to the trip again back at Bramall Lane next season in the Championship. Also fair play to your fans, 31k is remarkable for league 1, we also managed to get about 24k today but there was no away fans! That's one thing I'm looking forward to with the Championship, some actual away followings! Good luck guys.

Ah The Lion of Vienna Mr Lofthouse I presume As a young sprog,I came across Mr Lofthouse, outside the players entrance in John Street. He was talking to a guy and I was reluctant to approach. Nat saw that I had an autograph book, broke off his conversation, had a chat and signed my book. Such actions are never forgotten by a child and since that day, I have had a soft spot for Bolton W.
If memory serves he committed GBH on the Manc City keeper Bert Troutman,e to score in a cup final. That would not not be allowed to day, but the goal was given and the keeper carried on with an injured shoulder.

Many years later, Nat was Mine Host, Bert came into the pub and ordered a drink. When he offered payment, Nat straight faced declined, saying . " No Bert, we don't charge goalkeepers here"

Wonderful story about the legend himself. Unfortunately that generation of footballers seems to have passed on now, where money wasn't everything.

Great season for us and a difficult one for you guys. Lot of harsh words between both clubs -some right and some wrong - but well done to you all too.
Still watch that blog that your lad (Vogden?) did of our match at BDTBL. Highlight of our season for me apart from today.
See you next season.
UTB
yeah i watch that as well.. good innit :)

Time to consign this season's fallouts to the dustbin of history. As fans we have far more in common than things that divide us. Bolton have gone up because they came 2nd in the table, and deservedly so. When they needed to come good they did.

If a Trotter takes the time to come onto this forum and congratulate us, on the day we were presented with the trophy, amassed 100 points and said Goodbye to the 3rd Division after 6 years, only a miserable bastard would throw his good wishes in his face.

Me, I love everyone today*

*except Pigs and Tories, obviously.
amen brother

Trautmann broke his neck in a collision with Peter Murphy in the cup final - Man City v Birmingham 1956 - but carried on for the rest of the match. Hard man. Don Revie with him in final pic.

appreciated - out of interest, is the transfer embargo still on? When/Why does/will it end and 18 players out of contract (according to your chairman) back in January.

What's the future hold?

Genuine question btw.

He became a landlord for a while and the pub in question was the Bolton Castle on Tonge Moor Road, a local poet turned it into verse.

Harry Gregg just after t'final
Went into Nat's for a beer
Who returned his money and told him
We don't charge goalkeepers here.

He lived just up the road from me in the late seventies, in fact until he died. Frank Worthington lived up the road in the opposite direction, so two ex-England centre forwards within half a mile of each other and I doubt that will ever happen again unless I move to Wilmslow or Esher :-)

We are still currently under a transfer embargo, but it is looking likely to be lifted.
With the new owners coming in pretty much all the debt was wiped by a Eddie Davies.

The club is in a much more attractive positions to be invested in, and we have been heavily linked to Chinese investment.

Also my guess is that the majority of the players out of contract will be offered long term deals.

Only really Charlton and Coventry in League One have much claim to being, and I hate this term, a "big club". Both of those have spent the season more concerned with protest than football, so it's been fun to have someone to clash with.

Congratulations and good luck as long as you finish below us next season.

Hey thanks Lion. Very magnanimous. As were your fellow supporters in and around Horwich last night.Had my Blade shirt on just to cheekily remind any onlookers who they were runners up to;). All in good spirit. It was a tremendous day for us all and despite being reminded that you beat us twice the Table tells no Porky's.
I sincerely hope Ken has more than a financial vested interest in your club.Having made a Doco there as part of my Degree at Bolton Uni I know what a very decent bunch the vast majority of you are.You deserve better than him I would argue.
Good luck for next season. The classless numpty who is the "Washing Machine" I guess will be replaced? by someone more akin with the culture of BWFC.
My partner is a White so the banter is never far away.Next season gives us the opportunity for more.
Cheers Lion.

Nice . Although Bolton depict everything wrong with football , debt , embargo etc , you have done well in achieving promotion first time of asking .

Bit of a shit or bust season , which now becomes a shit or bust season in the championship for you .

Parkinson has done well , especially being a one dimensional tactical manager . Glad he did not get the job at BDTBL and could be first in the sack race next season .

Let's see how next season pans out for both of us . Still not convinced Bolton are in a safe pair of hands at board level .

At the end of the day it's what we do . Being nice in football gets you nowhere , so sorry but couldn't care a fuck if you guys go back in league 1 .
But being "Nice ", and using well crafted English brings much more joy and reward than

Those gobshite fans are in the vast minority Axel I assure you.Would you include my partner in that?.Having lived in Bolton for 6 years I speak from experience. They are a magnanimous lot who care passionately, much like any supporter. Let's face it most teams fans have gobshites including our own.
Surely it is better to ignore those and find more erudite ones with whom you can have a reasoned debate. It is after all only Football and as fans we have more in common than some media would have you believe. As such we could demand far better treatment from mr plod et al by supporting each other instead of jumping to conclusions without empirical evidence??. Just a thought.

As has been said, the table doesn't lie, Sheffield United were the best team by a country mile or more, scored more goals, won more games, and that was without Leon Clarke for most of the season, if he had been fit we would have been promoted by Christmas and champions by February.

Maybe they are, but I will draw my own conclusions thank you very much. Allied to the fact that they could barely draw 22k yesterday shows me that perhaps the town of Bolton does not deserve a Championship team despite now having one.

Of course you will and are perfectly entitled.I am not sure what attendances have to do with it mind.A population of 276,000 is on a par with our fan base given we have two teams in the City.Sheffield being just over double Bolton's population There's a bit more premiership competition within half hours drive:Liverpool, Everton, Man U ,City, which may explain some of the attendances.

You could argue that Burton with an average of 5,000 don't deserve to be in the Championship either but it still makes no sense to me. Surely a Club deserves what it strives for on the pitch, not in the stands ?

No offence fella but your reasoning, it could be argued is a tad flawed.UTB

Reportedly if someone had slapped him on the back at the end of the game they would probably have killed him. Playing with a broken neck now that's one tough bastard!

Of course there are no large football clubs within an hours drive of Bramall Lane? We obviously don't compete with other clubs for support. I didn't notice Bolton fans complaining about the 2 Manchester and 2 Merseyside clubs when they had 10 straight years in the top flight. Or maybe, like Coventry, they abandoned their club when the going got tough? Our fan base is far superior to Bolton's. We've had no European football, no cup final and no 10 years in the top flight in the past 20 years.

Understand there's a winding up order for Bolton on 22nd May. Will that mean a points deduction this or last season if they go into admin? Has their fat lady sung yet?

Yorkshire Post says we had a "bumper" crowd. How twee

Sorry mate but.....A trophy for coming second? Are you suitably embarrassed? (considering the gap)

As I said, Fan base is irrelevant. You perhaps have an axe to grind with Bolton.Anyway I am here to debate ,not to puff my chest out and win arguments at all cost.We all have our likes and dislikes where clubs are concerned. I dislike their Chairman personally but having been treated with respect by the Club and fans leads me to believe they are very decent people and have achieved Promotion on the back of results not attendances.
I still don'g get the "We are better fans than you argument" based on no empirical evidence and it seems a futile conversation.
What exactly is the point you wish to make? and how much time have you spent around Bolton fans?Or is your critique assumed from afar.
These are all rhetorical questions as I said healthy debate based on evidence and facts. Oh and I said 30 minutes drive not an hour which to some people can make all the difference.
I have spent many a time in a half empty Bramall Lane so I guess some of our fans are shit too, me included.People are fickle and increasingly difficult to make sense of.
Enjoy our club's success, it may be short lived. I hope and suspect not but let's try being galvanised by it and balls to whether other fans are better or not.
How about putting together a League table of all 92 clubs based on support and where and why they deserve to be where they are according to your theory?
Sorry fella but again, with all due respect to you it is a rather subjective and therefore futile argument based on opinion. Clearly we see things differenly which is healthy as long as we evade rash statements and harsh criticism without evidence.
Kind regards.
