The case for Jake Wright


22 league goals conceded in 28 games played I believe. 13 clean sheets. Unbeaten over the whole season with a game to go. 7 goals conceded in 3 games beginning of march, which we still got 7 points from was a bit of a blight in the record but never mind.

Without Wright....23 conceded from 17....with our last couple of defeats in there at Walsall and Fleetwood. Only 3 clean sheets when he has been missing.

Now THAT is influence. And if the club issue POTY awards....if I were manager I would be making sure he got some recognition for that record.
Take a bow Jake lad....now go and get that goal you deserve.

Here's how I see it.

JOC got better and learned a lot with Wright,
Bash improved immensely because of Wright,
Even EEL fooled us into looking a class act at times because of Wright.

So id have to pick Wright this season if we were judging it on influence.

I like the way he says he'll never be a 10 out of 10 player. Well Jakey lad, you're wrong there. For your performances judged over the whole season, it's 10 out of 10!

I'd say EEL first half of the season (some of us have short memories) and Basham second half of the season. I still reckon EEL would do OK in a back four, which I'm sure we'll see more of next season. If we are looking to sign a defender then I'd take a punt on him based on who's available and what's affordable.

and this year we again have fine young Centre Backs being developed in the Academy. Great tradition we have in this position. This year it's Wright for me in the big team.

In 2nd position - EEL by a gnats cod. Had a strong early part of the season but a slight wobble after Jan that led to him struggling to get in the side.

And plenty were saying we should pay 'whatever it takes' to get him and anything else would show a lack of ambition from McCabe.

Fortunately CW knows best.

Our best central defender? Jack O'Connell.

I can't split O'Connel, Wright and Basham. They've all been outstanding in their own way and improved their game throughout the season, which is pretty damn fantastic really as I thought that EEL was probably our best defender up to the midway point, and he's only been overtake because he's not really improved his game.
