I partly agree but relying on an academy graduate sale every year or 2 to prop up income is a risk.
It is but probably one the owners can afford to fund. I think it's more realistic than expecting them to cover a large shortfall year on year. And, as I said, we will also have to sign good young players with potential as well. I think they'll be some decent investment to keep us up but there will have to be a self sustaining element to it going forward.

Really a funny last paragraph. I bet some of you are hoping we get fined or some other punishment for our fans being passionate and intimidating for other clubs.

I really can't see the jump in logic from what I posted to hoping that we get fined but hey ho - what is funny is associating being passionate about the club with acting like a tosser, we're all passionate about the club it's just that most of us don't have to chuck incendiaries about to show it.

This is a good post Paulus and I agree with most of what you have wrote - but not the bit about Evans having a detrimental effect on the club's image or sponsorship deals. Rather, it has the potential to do the opposite. Evans has every right to have his career back and we are giving him a chance even though he hasn't really fully got back into the groove in his first season back at Chesterfield. It shows loyalty and support to Evans from a club that he badly let down due to his behaviour. In that sense it puts the club on a higher moral ground and challenges Evans to step up and see to that unfinished business from a few years ago. It could have all the makings of story that ended happy ever after.

However, for some people, Evans will always be in the dock. That's just the way some people are unfortunately. Should our club avoid him for fear of being tainted with the views of such people, or should we do the right moral thing and give the man a basic human right to work again for us? I am so glad we are brave enough to do the latter.

I think the point about controlling the morons inside the ground with their fireworks and high beam antics is very pertinent though. It is only a matter of time before someone gets seriously injured and then the club will find itself in deep water for not acting decisively earlier.

They've made their position clear on this - yet it's still going on and we see no action being taken. So it's only going to get worse.

I get what you're saying but my point is that businesses have plenty of choices as to where to spend their marketing bucks and the vast majority of businesses have female customers and they will look at our Ched connections (if that's what we end up with) and think - too risky, better options elsewhere. This cropped up yesterday http://www.prweek.com/article/14313...on-court-controversy-bringing-back-ched-evans

It may well be the case that any move by us to get Ched back will sit well with large parts of our support but an external sponsor isn't that interested in what our supporters think they will look at from the position and profile of their customers and their image.

We'll also have to get better at agreeing a sale price for youngsters. At the moment I can't honestly believe that the sales of youngsters have done much more than cover the costs of having an academy. If we start having clubs pants down instead of being bent over when we sell young players it would go a long way. Realistically now we are at least next season away from having anyone saleable as we don't even have kids in and around the first team. In the meantime the owners will have to bail us out.

Yes they will, which is why I said I expected initial investment; for transfers/signing on fees for the new players we'll need. Then I expect them to have to cover any shortfalls for a couple of years.

It's not just a case of getting better at negotiating prices, it's the fact that we've been in L1 for six years and L1 players don't attract as big a fee as championship players.

I don't expect our owners to ever fund a £10m+ deficit year on year so the club will have to be run very well in order to make any further progress. The key to that is having an effective academy and a great scouting and recruitment network. If we haven't got that, we're going nowhere, we're Ipswich.

all, in YOUR OPINION, of course.

Some clappers would be happy if we get fined for pyros and thats a fact.

Agreed, and hoping that a good youngster in the Championship is a £3m-£5m asset not a £1m asset. We just need to bring a few through now.

Also, Ipswich?! Please no, they were one of my first hates as a youngster after local rivals, seat smashing fans in the south stand and Mauricio twatting Taricco bring back vile memories from my younger days.

Stating the bleedin' obvious but football message boards are all about opinion - I'd be delighted to see the flare checkers fined and banned - I have no desire to see the club fined.

No blade is delighted another gets stung financially in the climate.
