Player Suggestion Ched Evans?

If true (and that's a very big if) it'll be because Wilder fancies his chances at getting him fit and firing after he's had a proper pre-season under his belt.

If you're talking purely in footballing terms, a rumoured 100k fee & comparatively low wage demands for a 28 year old ex international striker is worth a punt if the manager feels like he can get him playing to his ability again.

Personally I wouldn't go back in for him but then again I would have happily got shut of Coutts after last season so I'll trust the management on this one. Wilder's got a knack for resurrecting lost causes and we all know what sort of ability Ched had in his prime.

My thoughts exactly, why would you not trust Mr wilder after what he's just achieved .if and it's definitely a big if he could get back to anything like I think he'd do a decent job ,he frightened the life out of us for the first 30 minutes at there place this season and if we could get him fit and playing like that I think he'd be a good addition

I don't think we're being blackmailed. I suspect that, under the circumstances, we consider it a "freebie". But that's just me filling gaps in.

I'm fairly certain we offered and retracted a contract. His agent thinks they are owed. After subsequent meetings a contract was offered. And McCabe wanted Evans to be involved in discussions.
Should have said "a bid was made", not "an offer".

This is daft. It's got to be some nonsense windup

Sharp, Clarke, Hanson and Lavery will all be here next season. Any striker we sign must be fit, younger, with proven potential. Chedwyn got done of them in his favour

Apparently met with KM last week

Takes some believing all this I must say

Not convinced by his return tbh and would rather we were looking elsewhere

If Wilder signs him, it will be for footballing reasons and I for one trust his judgement, just look at what Clarke has achieved since getting fit, despite most fans writing him off. And if Evans can get fit and displays anything like the form that he did while awaiting trial, just imagine what he could achieve with Fleck and Coutts supplying him!!

This would have been at best highly unwise a year ago as a League 1 team looking for promotion, and that was while there was a possibility (albeit remote) that he'd pick up where he let off. Now that he's visibly nowhere near what's required, it makes zero footballing sense to go near him. I'd have thought if anything the learning from the last year was that we were 100% correct not to go near him last summer. We're now in a completely different situation where we need good Championship quality players on their way up in the game. Throw in the inevitable baggage Evans would bring, at a time when we're looking to kick on as a club it would be a wholly backwards step. I hope your sources are quite wrong on this occasion.

When he originally cost millions how can he classed as a freeby. He is unlikely to ever rea h is previouse standards but if truth in this and Wilder is willing to take him back, who are we to put the mockers on it.Wilder knows what he wants if he takes him then fair enough get behind him
We're fans not professional s

I just can't see this one happening - doesn't fit the bill that Wilder looks for.

We may have expressed a passing interest and no more will come of it? I've been told from a work colleague that knows Adam Le Fondre personally that we have expressed an interest in signing him in the summer - but i don't expect us to actually make that signing.

So it might be true. What a stupid idea.

Someone should tell Evans' agent what the cost of 5 years' TV money and appearance money and increased gates in the Championship might be. If anyone owes anyone, Evans owes the club that money.

In addition to everything else he's a crock, and was shocking at worst and mediocre at best in the Championship.

If we are going to have a punt on a striker with a reasonable record but with previous injury problems.... for a relatively low fee and probably comparatively low wages....... who has a point to prove at a higher level.....hmmmm....what about James Vaughan? Might cost a bit more than Ched but surely a better option?

Strongly related to avoiding compensation claims for a contract that was offered, I suspect.

If a contract was offered and withdrawn before any acceptance, why would there be any claim? Do you believe Evans accepted the contract before it was withdrawn?

I thought the boardroom leak had been plugged after a serious bollocking. Obviously not.

I doubt Wilder would agree to his signing unless he thought he could do a job. I trustt our best manager in decades with the decision on this as much as I'd love Ched to come back. Only if he's good enough

If we do sign Ched, then someone's probably leaving who we don't expect to. Probably Clarke or Hanson. Because we'd sign another striker as well as Ched, which would take it to 6 in total, 7 if Done stays. Too many I think, especially as we might go with just 1 up front quite often next season. We also can't be spending unnecessary money if we want to achieve something.

Take out all the off field stuff there simply isn't a logical reason why any championship side would want him after this season.

Indeed. Not wanting to channel Pinchy here, but if he wasn't an ex-player this wouldn't be even suggested as a signing we, as an ambitious Championship team, would want to make. Likewise it doesn't sound like the club would consider it were there not this apparent threat of legal action.

If he were to sign he would be so much fitter than he has ever been after our pre season and sometimes hands are forced.

Posters on BM ( :) ) saying he's not been injured but no ones saying why he's not been playing.

If he's under contract at Chesterfield is he allowed to meet McCabe re a deal?

I believe so, but don't pretend to know any more details than I've stated already.

I am sure McCabe didn't laugh and say "see you in court" when the issue was raised though.

I can't believe he could have any grounds to sue us, but if he does and we'd be looking at paying out 500k+ then we might as well sign him for 100k - we could just sell him within 6 months and actually make a profit. It could be more than just a freebie for us in the circumstances, but a money saver and a money maker.

On what grounds could he possibly sue us? He was the one who played with fire, not SUFC. Is there any factual proof of this?

Yes if it's with a view to a contract after his current one has expired.

I'm not sure, but I was under the impression that to be enforceable players contracts have to be written, signed by both sides and registered, though I may be wrong.

Right. I thought his Chessie one would run to 30th June like most do. If it's all true, he may of course have permission. Let's just hope Wilder has the final say.
