Player Suggestion Ched Evans?

Not going to happen, not now, tomorrow, or next season. By then Ched will be plying his trade with York City, Chester, or similar. He, no one else, made a decision he'll have to live with, so best for everyone that they get on with their lives and forget the fantasy of Evans ever again playing for SUFC.

I believe we have made an offer for Ched Evans. I won't be revealing sources, but I believe it's true.

If we have, that would be a fairly dismal start to our summer recruitment. We shouldn't be signing anyone that can't compete with our current starting XI if we're serious about strengthening the squad.

Agreed, happy to be proven wrong, but that would be a sobering indication of our ambition.

If true (and that's a very big if) it'll be because Wilder fancies his chances at getting him fit and firing after he's had a proper pre-season under his belt.

If you're talking purely in footballing terms, a rumoured 100k fee & comparatively low wage demands for a 28 year old ex international striker is worth a punt if the manager feels like he can get him playing to his ability again.

Personally I wouldn't go back in for him but then again I would have happily got shut of Coutts after last season so I'll trust the management on this one. Wilder's got a knack for resurrecting lost causes and we all know what sort of ability Ched had in his prime.

Strongly related to avoiding compensation claims for a contract that was offered, I suspect.

Clayxblade is either a bullshitter or just a shit ITK.

He was right about O'Shea, but it took longer than he said it would to happen and I think the rumour surfaced before he said anything.

It all depends on fitness with Evans. There's an opportunity now to pick him up for next to nothing. If his fitness issues are likely to clear up then there's no doubt he's worth more than 100k.

I'd be 50/50 about him coming back now. I wouldn't settle for him as first choice next season, but he could be a great value addition to the squad. It all depends on what Wilder thinks - we will have seen plenty of him this season when scouting O'Shea. So he'll be in a good position to make a call on his current ability level.

Ffs we've just won the league let's move on , we shouldn't be living in the past and from what I've seen this season we don't need another James Wallace.
Mate I moved on ages ago but when a Chesterfield director says he's coming back I'll just post the gossip here. Couldn't give a care if he signs or not, just passing on the gossip. UTB

The key part of that statement is, "...in his prime". Not now, but several years ago were when he reached his prime. And all based on undefined sources. Seems rash at best, and at worst? Well, as has been commented on elsewhere, if this is a sign of our ambition then we should resign ourselves to finding a comfortable place in the Championship. This isn't a matter of principle, if Evans were signed, and somehow rediscovered his previous form, of course I'd be happy that we had a forward capable of scoring with ruthless precision. I don't necessarily buy into the mindset that says he's playing with lesser mortals and therefore his scoring touch has temporarily gone awol. Players can lose their strengths in just the same way that they were once regarded as imperious delivers of whatever talent they once possessed.

The next few months will confirm or deny this unsubstantiated rumour. When we were meant to have pursued Evans previously, it all came to nothing, revealed as a false claim in spite of the emotional pleading of a few posters on this forum. By all means vent your spleens, make this a matter of such undoubted importance that the rest of us must have somehow lost our marbles, but let's do what we've done all season and trust in Wilder's judgement to assemble a squad with the ability of raising our standards to levels we all imagined we weren't capable of attaining. I'll go with Wilder's decision making on this and other signings we may make. UTB

Laughable bullshit
You are all embarrassing yourselves by participating in it

"I won't be revealing sources"

Sounds reliable o_O
If you're of a mind that people must be desperate attention seekers, perhaps.

Very strong source. Unfair to compromise him. Make of it what you will.

I assure you it isn't. There's still hundreds of thousands of other posts for you to get angry with though, so don't worry. :)

Post on Chesterfield forum:

" 'Deepthroat' tells me the Blunts are thinking of taking what's been described as a 'punt' on Ched Evans. They believe he's available on the cheap and if they can get him back to anything like his best he'll be an asset.

They're also interested in Sam Morsy."

Morsy rumour is totally believable. Maybe that makes the Ched bit more credible.

What if we signed both of them? How would this forum cope? It would surely mean at least 10,000 posts.

Would just need to snap up Dan Burn to top it off.

If you're saying what I think you're saying, that we're effectively being blackmailed into offering a deal, then I hope it's met with the same sort of anger levelled Hammond's way for activating his one year deal. If it came down to having him back or paying the compensation I'd pay the compensation without hesitation, and let him rot in the lower leagues.

I don't think we're being blackmailed. I suspect that, under the circumstances, we consider it a "freebie". But that's just me filling gaps in.

I'm fairly certain we offered and retracted a contract. His agent thinks they are owed. After subsequent meetings a contract was offered. And McCabe wanted Evans to be involved in discussions.
