MIDFIELDER MY ARSE !

From the os..........

Kevin Blackwell has reiterated that moves away from Bramall Lane are more likely than players coming in by the time the transfer window closes at the beginning of next week.

The United boss admits that enquiries for his players are being made and subsequently assessed, he wants to be certain of his hand if he is to bring someone in:

"I only want to bring people in who will definitely make a real difference and take this team forward, this season and in the Premier League.

"The two or three that I have been trying to get are being snapped up by Premiership clubs, and I am not going to bring in the ones in who are not of that quality just to make do and mend.

"It's no secret that I am looking for a bit more quality and midfield is an area I'm looking at. My spending in the next twelve months will mainly be restricted to big deals."

We need to look abroad. Eastern Europe & South America should hopefully turn up some gems.

Agreed. The Chechs too!! Eastern European players have a good level of technique. Also we need to make use of our links with Sao Paulo??? Let them suggest players who could fit in with our team. For all these teams we have agreements with we dont really see what the benefits are. (yet) Id love for us to find the next Maradona or Batistuta!

Actually it might make a lot more sense to give a run to some of our other midfield players. Spring has only run with the reserves so we do not know what he could produce working with Speed and Hendrie (against Port Vale) showed a new spirit and lot's of invention - why buy until you have properly tested what you have already got?

You are correct sir.

The creative midifeld players are available but they are simply not available in this country.

Take a look at Zaki, Palacios and Valencia at Wigan; i know that Zaki is probably classed as more of a striker this is just an example of the talent that can be brought in from abroad for very little expense.

The boy Matejovski from Reading has looked a class act whenever i have seen them play and we all know about some of the talent which has been snapped up from the irish leagues (Doyle, Kightly, etc).

Whether these players would be willing to come to us is debatable of course but it's been a long time since we profited from the foreign market (vas borbokis in my opinion) and it has to be the way forward if the midfield problem is to be solved.

He's been poor overall so far this season, but i'd say he's had the odd promising game. As usual, he is far too inconsistant and seems to spend far to much time reflecting on any mistake during the game.

It'd begin to concern me on maybe the 3/4th occaision. This however is the second home league match, the other being a 3-0 win. It's hardly time to write off the season on one game where nothing fell for us.

The same could be said for the majority of the football league. Sadly, there are many Premiership teams also looking for this player and we are unable to compete with that. Even then, there aren't many around and available. We can't just magic one up.
All of the above are absolutely spot on

We all know that we need a creative midfielder but it just seems that know one is available in our price structure. ie Brian Howard the Barnsely chairman saying they want £10 million.

The thing with looking abroad is, even if players are out there want to come will they be given time to fit in/adapt?

We are 4 league games in, already we've had booing at half time at Huddersfield and muted booing after the match on saturday. Certain players have been scapegoated in just 4 performances, not to mention the effect casually rascist songs towards our own players could cause.

So we don't sign the missing piece we have been needing for years just because of some potential racist chants by a few idiots?

Can understand about not bedding in streight away, but may as well get scouting these places for a Christmas present.

The same problems occur at every club foxy, it may seem like we are worse then anyone else but the truth is that we are all as bad as once another.

The players that have been subject to abuse this season are players that have plied their trade at this level or above for many years and so one would expect them to be somewhat acclimatised to the game.

I am by no means supporting the abuse which has been levelled at any of our players; i just think that players from abroad would be given the time by the BL faithful as long as their arrival was not given the fanfare to raise hopes of an instant reward.

I'm merely offering up reasons as to why looking abroad isn't likely to be an instant success. To many foreign players often come with a pre-conception and are generally given less slack than home grown players (haha, yeah, like they get any slack any more!). Its also far more difficult for said players to adapt to not only the country, but a difficult division.

Sun Jihai with all his premiership experience was written off by many before he'd even kicked a ball, also heard plenty of abuse towards him pre-season, again, before the people giving the abuse had even seen him play.

Yes it doesn't seem to be having an affect on him personally, given his start to the season...

But my point is, however trivial it may seem, other foreign targets hearing Blades chanting about him eating dogs aren't likely to be all that impressed...

If your foreign, you get racial stereotypes chucked at you whether you play well or not. If you don't play well you are booed off after 45mins and/or hounded out of the club.

I don't think its currently as serious as it sounds the way i've put it.... but increasingly the attitudes and bile spouted towards our own is reaching embarrasing levels... My point is two things.... first of all its not as simple as just bringing in a foreigner to solve our problems (the time needed to settle alone is another problem!) and secondly bit by bit a certain few sections of our support are slowly chipping away at making us a less attractive prospect than we used to be.

The horns for Jostein Flo were funny though. For all sorts of reasons. :D

If Blackie thinks we are good enough as we are he is living in cloud cukoo land our midfield is simply not good enough as was proven on saturday we do not have enough creativity in our midfield to make us promotion contenders at the moment.

For as much as i respect and like Blackwell i think he is trying to lead us down the Garden path with some of his statements.

There is the Quality available and Blackwell cant bullsh*t us about that because we know for a fact that there is Ben Watson is twice the player Michael Tonge is so why not sign him for a bargain 2m Brian Howard scored more goals and created more assists in one season than Michael Tonge has in about 3 seasons.

I dont know what is going off behind the scenes at Bramall Lane with regards to money but i wish they would be truthful to us the Loyal fans rather than making promises they cant keep.:shakehead:

He's said he knows we need a midfielder so why is he trying to lead us down the garden path?

Ben Watson has apparently said he wants to stay in London... we can do many things but we can't offer him the chance to do that.

Brian Howard was adjudged to be too expensive for what he would offer to the team.

It isn't as easy as going to the midfielder shop and picking one off the shelf.

I consider myself a pretty loyal fan following the team home and away and I don't feel lied to. I'd love a midfield full of wonderkids but I know it isn't as easy as some people make out.

The buyer and sellers might be 100% in agreement, but it isn't like buying a car. In this case, what is being bought and sold needs to be happy as well. If they don't like Sheffield, there's isn't a great deal that can be done about it. As wonderful as we all know the city is... some people just don't see it that way.
