That article is just a list of known facts made out as if it's some new information - what a waste of time

I hope wilder shows no senterment for players from this season and continues to drive us forward. For me, it would be, Done, Scugal, Long, macnulty, and maybe these, Hanson, and yes, Duffy. I've loved watching Duffy, but seems to have struggled in the Championship before.

Funny one, Duffy. Been superb for us this season and seeing his first touch has been an absolute joy to watch. I can't recall ever seeing a better receiver of the ball in my time watching.

That said, I'm assuming Clough couldn't guarantee him games at Burton hence why he came to us. If he couldn't get a game at Burton, it doesn't bode well for his future here.

Remember Cloughie's 'You start with one point' mantra.

Duffy would have been far too attack minded for NC and his defensive work isn't the best. CW is much more likely to gamble and I think he will keep Duffy and play him. He won't start every game but his direct running and willingness to receive the ball, will upset plenty of Championship defenders, despite the 'massive gap'.

a few of our players who looked shocking under Clough seem to have 'improved' a bit though

I would be amazed if Duffy is let go personally. Quality is quality, simple as and he could at least be an option from the bench or to start games as he does admittedly seem to tire after an hour.

Scougs and McNulty going is obvious if they're out of contract, Long if we're bringing in another keeper seems fair enough. EEL and Chapman will go back to their parent clubs. Hussey should definitely be released. Brayford is something that is up to the manager as he's clearly good enough for the Championship, so depends on if anything has changed for the reason for letting him go to begin with.

Most of this year's first team should get a shot at the Championship, some will probably become back up rather than starters, but this isn't the major bin the lot and start again scenario like last summer. Fringe players like Wilson might get released, Done is possible too and keeping O'Shea might not happen. Assuming a few of the youngsters get loaned out for the season, we're not carrying a lot of extra players if we bring in a few.

Getting rid of Duffy would be a mistake, he's better than O'Shea and Carruthers has never managed to force him out of the side so far. He might end up surplus to requirements by the end of the transfer window, but getting rid immediately would be madness.

We've all got our opinions on who should stay or go but CW is the one who gets paid for making the decisions and gets the sack if he gets too many wrong so let's not start crying if he decides to keep a player we don't like. CW's earned that respect.

Reckon Duffy is just one of many who'll feel they haven't been given a proper crack of the whip in the division above previously. Duffy, Moore, Freeman, O'Connell, Lafferty, Lavery, Clarke, even Sharp (the Leeds version). Not good enough? Or just not given sufficient proper chances to prove themselves?

Think that Chris will be putting that hunger and desire to positive advantage.

People who have knocked Duffy probably the same ones who knocked Stephen Quinn!
You need players who are going to look for a way of 'picking the lock' to opposition defences, not just look for an easy sideways ball.
Coutts obvious skill and ease on the ball has flourished having two players capable of this [fleck/duffy] , and Wilder has been smart enough to recognise when and where to use them effectively
I think Carruthers will also have a big part to play next season. But I think Duffy will also have some good moments next season in the championship.

Tough call on many players IMO, O'shea and Carruthers didn't have a pre season with us and therefore played half of this with a totally different side. They were brought in so we had strength in depth which has proved to be priceless. I am surprised no one has mentioned Clarke? surely he can't be staying, he has been below average in most of the games he has played with the exception on the last 5.

Release those whose contracts are up, put up for sale those he doesn't want, then lets see what he has left.

I thought Clarke had a three year deal.

I don't see us losing anyone we don't want to. I don't see the likes of Basham, Freeman, Coutts and Sharp only signing one year extensions either.

I'd expect the following to leave: Wilson, Brayford, Hussey, Scougall, Done, O'Shea, McNulty

Then EEL, Riley and Chapman will return to their clubs.

No way is Clarke leaving now. At full fitness he's showing what he could offer us next season.

Matt Done on an extended deal? Thanks Done for your hard work but we need to do better.

Don't be too hasty. Useful player that can play lots of positions. It's a long hard season in the Championship and we will need the depth.

There are a number of others that we should jettison before him.

.

Hussey has another year on his contract.

The only way you can release him is by paying him up or agreeing a settlement.

We could put him on the transfer list but then we would have to find a willing buyer and a compromise to ensure that the player is at least as well off financially as he would be if he stayed.

I don't see any need to do Hammond/Woolford style settlement agreements this summer. Players like Hussey we could always loan out if they don't find another club.

Scougs, McNulty, Hussey, Wilson and Done are the players I'd look to be offloading 1st. Will Reed ever get a chance? Brayford?

I remember collecting the views about Duffy from the Burton fans when we signed him. Seemed like he totally lost form when Clough came in and Clough wasn't happy with him travelling from Liverpool every day for training. I don't think it was too much to to with his ability why he didn't sign for Burton.

Agree,
All our 3 midfielders are very comfortable on the ball with instant control.
Coutts always plays sideways passes, never loses possession
Fleck plays a mixture of sideways and forward creative passes, occasionally loses possession.
Duffy runs with the ball, takes on a man and plays loads of difficult forward passes, so he loses possession the most. Much of our best play comes from Duffy and we miss him when he gets subbed.

Agree that Quinn used to also play in a positive fashion trying difficult chance creating passes. Squinny used to get stick for losing possession but at least he was trying something positive.
However I think Stephen himself would admit he doesn't have anywhere as much ability as Duffy.
Although Squinny was a worker, more combative and much better defensively.

My take

Mcnulty-Released
Scougal-Released
Done-Released
O-Shea offered a deal
Long - Transfered out
EEL - Returns to Wolves with wolves regretting offering him a contract.
Hussey - Transfered out
Reed - Loaned out
Wright Jr - Loaned out
Whiteman - Loaned Out

Chapman - Re-Signing
Riley - Re-signing
Sharp - New contract in addition to the trigger
Basham - New contract in addition to the trigger
Coutts - New contract in addition to the trigger

As for Brayford I think he could do a good job for us. But having thought about it I think they will move him on for the purpose of saving wages and bring in someone like Conor McLaughlin on a fraction of the wages and he's 5 years younger Plus available on a free I believe

I would definitely keep Duffy and Brayford-he is our player and just had a decent year playing in the Championship
I'd expect the following to leave: Wilson, Hussey, Scougall, Done, O'Shea, McNulty, EEL, Long, Chapman
so that's potentially 9 leaving and then bring in another GK plus 4 decent players

Exactly. If you want to take the game to the opposition and impose yourselves, you have to not only trust your players, but give them offensive licence.

I turned off from Clough in his second season with his boring negative approach and start with a point BS. He is suited to jobs like Burton where they are at present, and in fairness to him will do a good job in those circumstances.

Wilder, however, not only is a better man manager and tactician imho, he also has a bigger pair of cojonas.

You never know, sometimes players just click at certain clubs or with certain styles of play

I can't imagine Duffy being a big hit under a Clough regime because he wants to get forward into the opposing third and not go sideways

Shouldn't that be " will Reed get another chance?" I seem to recall him playing quite a few games for us in the past.
Is he likely to ever be good enough to get into our current / future Championship team?
I'm not sure i've seen enough to think he will be.

Hussey and Wilson will not be huge money so any pay off would be minimal.

From what i have seen of Wilson, Done they will want to play football next season. I could see them move on a free to another L1 side and have a good few years at it.

Hussey on the other hand i could see sitting on his arse taking what ever money he is on and leave at the end of next season unless a nice move for him crops up.

Scougall, McNulty, will be on their way asap without any fuss.

I also don't think for one minute that Chesterfield would have accepted a loan move for O'Shea without having a full transfer at the end of the season in place. So i think he stays.

So in short Wilson, Done, Hussey, Scougall, McNulty, EEL, Riley, Chapman all to leave.

Riley to sign and 7 new ones to come in.

It will be interesting to see whether Tufty tries to get Riley & Chapman back next season on year loans ....... it has been alluded to a few weeks ago

I would imagine that Clark has cemented a place in the squad with some good performances ( and goals) since he recovered from the injury that he was carrying, but the really interesting one will be Brayford. Will Tufty think he's worth a place in the squad ?

Can't really see us trying for EEL either tbh ...... more likely the lad from Walsall (Southampton)

Should make for an interesting Summer as we see just how committed the Board are ...... we WILL need another striker who can score regularly at Championship level and they don't come cheap ......

UTB & FTP

Brayford is an excellent addition to the squad as a Right Wing Back or a right back in a back 4.

I still think his wages are a stumbling block though. I would guess he would be close to, if not our top earner if he came back. CW i would guess hates that as he would want to control who deserves what and when.
