As a fan I like the team to do the impressive stuff. If you want to sing or shout all the match that's great. Not everyone feels the need to outsing everyone else , or abuse everyone who hasn't had as many sherbets before the game. Effing and Jeffing at fellow Blades who aren't doing exactly the right amount of singing doesn't make them less of a Blades. Just a quieter one. The chap I sat next to was spouting the same as you almost verbatim. Spoke a lot of sense otherwise. But then shot off at the final whistle and didn't stay to applaud the team as they came back round. Is that showing support and love for your team?

So you're saying that a silent crowd has anything like the relevance of a wall of sound at a football match? I think we both know whicherver way you want to slice it that the phrase "Be the 12th man" isn't rubbish."Our crowd gave us a goal start". "Our crowd got us back in the game". "The support from our fans today was just amazing".
All things players and managers say. Do you think they refer to a bunch of miserable looking non entities who think supporting your team begins and ends at sitting in gormless silence for 90 minutes.
And what any fan does when the game is over is utterly irrelevant. It's how you get behind your team when the game is in play and the outcome not known that matters.

I think I was sat next to you in the Blut yesterday, if not , it was your soulmate. A bit harsh . A lot had come to see their favourite team, maybe for the first time this season, or for years. It is also a home match. Away matches always bring out the more tribal instincts in Blades fans.(longer sesh) As an adult I am happy to sit still and watch a good game of football. No wall of sound was going to make much difference to the game. I agree that there are times when the fans do need to make that difference, and most know that and will join in. But fans who don't do the whole matchday experience exactly as you want them to are still entitled to the same respect you want them to give you. Most of the quieter ones stayed behind, didn't show their arses on the pitch, and applauded their team respectfully when they made the effort to walk round the pitch. They probably looked miserable because someone was swearing at them because they weren't acting the same way as you. If it was you, It was good talking to you. Keep up the singing. All Blades welcome.
 



My point isn't about everyone having the same approach,that's clearly unrealistic and daft. It's more about how our support whilst great in number is very subdued.
In truth,I'm not fussed about those who you say have come to support their team perhaps for the first time all season. We certainly haven't missed them and that smacks of plastic fans anyway. Away support is different,we all know that. It wasn't that long ago the atmosphere at the Lane was amazing and the envy of many. It drew comments from opposing managers. We are nowhere like that. I hope it will return next season.

Yes, subdued. Reluctant, inhibited perhaps. I am a bit like that nowadays. Not sure quite why. More beer required?. It was louder and more intimidating. can't remember when it stopped being like that. There must be a way of creating a situation where fans feel able to chant, sing and show enthusiasm . Maybe a stigma attached . Maybe fans have become a bit disconnected.

I can understand after so many false dawns many are reluctant to put their necks on the block yet again only to be left at the alter.
This team,manager and set up is different. It's the real deal and they don't come alomg that often.
We should turn up in numbers and make sure they know that we know that.

I clearly understand the intended metaphor and of course it's bang on!

Aside from that well done blades, i think the vast majority of City fans simply accepted we got beaten by a better team yesterday. It would have been far more interesting/closer had some of our players played a little closer to their usual level as 4/5 of them really didn't do themselves justice yesterday. McCall also complicated things too much in terms of his formation which he's done a little too much of late for my liking.
I still think we have as much a chance of anyone left in the playoff positions albeit finishing 3rd or 4th would be preferable so the second leg is at Valley Parade where we seem to be so difficult to beat.

Personally i was really impressed with Duffy yesterday. He just seems to add tempo to the team and is a pest to the opposition throughout.
Good luck in The Championship, that team with 3/4 quality additions will do just fine i reckon.
