Idiotic Blades fans

Exocet missiles Pah! chicken feed. I were at Wembley when some palace fans tried to get a sherman tank through the turnstiles. If it wasn't for a an eagle eyed do gooder they wouldn't have been stopped.

I prefer sparklers myself. They are much prettier.

On a serious note, I have read your post twice and I can't work out whether you are being serious or sarcastic about "not minding smoke bombs". I tell you what I think about smoke bombs - I think they have no place at football matches and any fan caught in possession of one, whether lit or unlit, should be banned from attending football matches and face criminal action.

I remember some years ago now and we played Leeds United in a night match at Bramall lane. The Leeds fans threw flares into the crowd in the South Stand. There was universal disgust and outrage at this amongst our fans. It was considered to be the lowest of the low behaviour from fans and just underlined the commonly held view amongst some fans, that the Leeds fans were a level lower than the rest of society.

Now, we have our own fans doing this on a regular basis. How low we've sunk then eh?

I think the only way to stop this happening is for people to be arrested if caught in possession of one. That means doing a more thorough search of fans on entry to grounds. This routine "patting down" is pointless. I could have smuggled a machine-gun into Vale Park yesterday if I'd been so inclined and no-one would have noticed - at least not the guy who patted me down.

This is my concern - if fans are able to get into grounds carrying something as large as a smoke bomb and get unnoticed - then it's only a matter of time before some religious nutter does the same and causes mass murder.

I also think fans should shop other fans and report them to the police if they see them carrying, lighting or throwing flares. Or, film them on your mobile phone and share the footage with the police afterwards.

Someone knows that these idiots have smoke bombs on them. Someone is standing with them when they set them off. Maybe even someone on here is guilty of it and thinks it's big and clever to do it?

Which Leeds match is it you're referring too ? I can remember Birmingham fans firing distress flares into the old John Street but not Leeds fans doing similar into the south stand with smoke bombs .

Next time it could be an Exocet missile

Outraged, of Sheffield.

I've seen several anti-aircraft tanks at away games this season.

That's where I draw the line, this is a very serious issue, people could get hurt.

My point wasn't about smoke bombs, more about the potential for carnage in big crowds with inadequate security. That said, as widely pointed out elsewhere, (a) unlike other countries we have supporters too thick or self-obsessed to use them safely, as attested by (b) plenty of reports on here about kids, asthmatics, and others paying to watch football and finding themselves in dangerous and terrifying circumstances because some twat has smoke-bombed them.

If we can't use em without endangering our own with crass and self-absorbed stupidity, let's not use em.

Because it never happened.

The Leeds match in question was the League Cup in 2002 where one flare was fired from the South Stand, hitting the underside of the BLUT and landing behind the goal.

Thank you . if you saw this happening would you report them or turn the other cheek . Come on be honest .

I wouldn't disagree with any of that. The thing is that flares and smoke canisters (which aren't "bombs") are a standard feature across the world and are not inherently evil things, nor are the people that choose to use them.

Maybe they shouldn't necessarily be used in England because lets face it, a large proportion of English fans are thick as fuck and their historical abuse of freedom has led to the horribly sterile atmosphere that modern football has imposed on us.

It's a shame from my point of view because I love the atmosphere created by such things.

After reading these comments I have to ask are our fans, or fans in general starting to get back to the bad old days of trouble, dont see much nowadys as it seems to be generally under control, I appreciate its always under the suface but is it on the rise?

The bladesfan who nicked the ball which came into the crowd at the end ,just walking about like a pregnant man and the stewards couldn't care a toss :)

No, because we're heading for a division where things are more tightly controlled and organised.

Which is both a good thing and a bad thing.

Its a difficult one ,I wouldn't like violence to return to the 70s when you really could get your head kicked in ,but that edginess walking to and from the game ,and the passion for your team makes the whole day a lot more exciting. Funnily enough I parked almost exactly where we parked 36 years ago when we had stand up punch ups in someones front garden and had to fight our way back to the van before all getting locked up in Leek nick for the night ,not a lot has changed in that time in Burslem ,except the cops are more organised and we had 4 k there instead of about 800.

Sensible post . We are in league 1 so the fan opposition , policing , stewards are poor and undermanned . I can see the trouble getting worst outside the grounds both home and away next season . Think Birmingham , Leeds , S6 , Villa , Forest etc .

The difference is these days , you do good citizenship like some are advocating on here , and you could get knifed by a coked up idiot . It's beer and drugs that's the problem not smoke bombs .

Some on here are like politicians .

I was informed by a friend there today that the scrote was promptly arrested. Dunno if anyone can confirm?

If only certain parents were aware of what their little darlings are spending their pocket money on.

Spoils an otherwise great day.

Sadly, I think that you'd get decent odds that their parents were doing pretty much the same thing 20 years earlier :(

Yeah, the guy who patted me down yesterday, felt my phone charger, which is bigger and a similar shape to most smoke bombs/flares... All he did was look at me, pausing his patting, whilst I said "phone charger". He didn't ask me to show him or question why I've got such a large phone charger, simply accepted my "explanation".

That was enough for him to stop his search and motion me towards the turnstile.

Think you've missed the point Bos. A case in point being Martin Luther King, even Rosa Parks, both contributed significantly to the changes in legislative and attitudinal ideas that America benifitted from. Both were regarded as 'do gooders', a term that's pretty meaningless (the opposite being 'do badders'?), often used as a lazy condemnation of those who choose to oppose anything that's hateful or harmful to their fellow citizens.

Fact is some were looking at how or why we would fail to get promotion when so far ahead of teams below us, well people look no further than the stupid tw@s throwing smoke bombs etc into home fans areas, I'm fully expecting an away fan ban either vs MK or a few games next season OR a points deduction of say 30 points and if that happens you honestly believe players or management will stick around after that kick in the nads?
Well done you moronic cretins, your club loves you.
Thought we had learned after throwing a flare into the BL stand few seasons ago, I guess not.

Well put and that's told me . :) . Agree

lucky you, I never even got patted :(

Is that a woman with the Vale retards trying to get into the United end ?????

Clearly they weren't trying to get in the Utd end though, as soon as the gates burst open they all stopped pushing and let the vastly outnumbered stewards push them closed again.

Typical wannabe football hooligans, it was all for show, the last thing they want is a fight unless the odds are massively in their favour, 'did you see us, we had a right go, if it hadn't been for the Coppers, we'd have had 'em'. They're fucking pathetic, it's just embarrassing
