As opposed to the full timers who don't sing because they're nervous?
Ah but they have earned the right not to sing

Exactly. You ask most Blades when they started supporting us, or going regular, and nine out of ten will say during the Harris/Porterfield/Bassett/Warnock eras. When we were successful. And whatever people say about Clough, the cup runs seem to have kept us going, sparked a bit of interest amongst younger supporters that we've managed to capitalise on by following up with this season.I've noticed on this forum that quite a lot of posters say they have been supporting United since 1970 (or thereabouts). There's a reason for that, we had a good team with 2 or 3 great individuals, one of whom was world class, who were a pleasure to watch so there was nothing unusual in the club attracting a whole new generation of fans. Were these fans classed as bandwagon jumpers in the day?
It's not unreasonable to suggest that it is this set of supporters who have carried us through the not so good times but numbers are starting to dwindle from this demographic for obvious reasons. This is a great opportunity to gain a whole new generation of supporters who will in turn will carry us through the next 30 or 40 years for the same reasons as the 70's mob .
Running a football club is a long term project so all these fucking nonsensical accusations directed towards bandwagon jumpers should be treated with the contempt they deserve. There is no distinction between any fan, old or new or part-time, and we should be making all the effort we can to attract the new ones without all the accompanying snidey comments. Otherwise sometime in the not to distant future we won't have any fans.
Before you all post photos of people wearing Led Zeppelin jumpers or GIF's of people appearing in Terror Vision jumpers to grannies tea party, I'm curious to know how people define someone jumping on the Bandwagon when it comes to watching United.
I see it all the time mentioned on here when people get arsey about tickets to games towards the end of a promotion winning season. So how do you define it?
As a non-season ticket holder due to cost and working commitments but someone who has over 25 years been to Bury away on a Friday night and Oxford away and got pissed wet through at the old Manor Ground am I in that category for getting a Chez Vegas ticket? Would be interested to hear people's thoughts.
I haven't been to Hillsborough since 1979,
Define bandwagon.
No financial, family or work ties goes to the "big matches"you know, when you go to the pub on match days and see the same people in the same pub at the same time every home match.
Then, BOOOOM.
Big match and can't get fuckin served at the bar cos all the part timers have arrived.
Away matches.
Can't be arsed all season but are the biggest blade in the world when it's nailed on.
Yes,I was at millwall that day walkin away bottom of the league.
WIVES!!Just love it. Happy days. Bandwagoners, students, lapsed fans, returners to the cross, kids mates from next door wearing Man U shirts, people from Dore with friends up, t'owd lad who can't normally get, squaddies, international students, those young Asian lads on Vincent Rd kicking a tin on match days, wives, boyfriends, people from Mirfield or Belper, girlfriends, husbands, folk coming to Hallam Open Day folk, Middlewood u13s, Upperthorpe Residents association, Sisters of the Passion, refugees. ALL WELCOME. The more the merrier, spread the faith as the Blades go marching in.
Read the title of the post.what would you prefer, an embarrassingly low 'tin pot' attendance for big matches? This happens, it always has happened and always will. Everywhere. Just the same as when bands release that annoying top ten hit, you have to put with shit arena seats and triple prices.
Hopefully continued higher attendances will mean the club has more money to improve the largely shit facilities at the Lane. Which for me is the issue, not new fans.
If somebody attended every game from 2000 to 2010 and then stopped going because they didn't want to watch league one football got an MK away ticket ahead of someone much younger, who only attended every game whilst the club had been in league one and therefore had less points, but had been to many more games whilst we were shit. They'd be a massive fucking bandwagon jumping prick from my select view.Bandwagon jumper is such a load of olde bollocks. If more people want to go and watch the Blades then I don't see what the problem is. There is a loyalty point system to reward those who've continued to watch the team, and season tickets also have offers etc. It's just superior nonsense from a select view and to be honest I've not seen too much of it on here over the years.
You don't think that by sitting through several years of turgid shit in between a couple of cup runs and one season in the PL means those with ten years of loyalty points deserve them?If somebody attended every game from 2000 to 2010 and then stopped going because they didn't want to watch league one football got an MK away ticket ahead of someone much younger, who only attended every game whilst the club had been in league one and therefore had less points, but had been to many more games whilst we were shit. I do see the other point of view however in that their money going back into the club again is great, but not at the expense of another more loyal supporter
Yeah perhaps I was slightly harsh as the glory years were hardly brilliant. However I do know of a couple of fans that haven't been since the championship days and are now back at the LaneYou don't think that by sitting through several years of turgid shit in between a couple of cup runs and one season in the PL means those with ten years of loyalty points deserve them?
And realistically, how many of those that have watched us over those ten years just stopped going because we got relegated and haven't been back since?

That's it, just send your money in, don't attend. You can only attend when you have sent money in for ten years. You are not allowed to enjoy the atmosphere in case you dilute it. You are not allowed to queue up for a ticket in case some lazy , non season ticket but go to more matches than you, wants to wake up late and get his rightful reward. You can't go in any pub within 2 miles of a match in case you sit or stand in a spot someone uses once a fortnight. you are not allowed to hum along or sing a song that everyone sings different words to. Please don't think of becoming a Blade until you have suffered like the rest of us. Simple really. Royston Vasey FC.If somebody attended every game from 2000 to 2010 and then stopped going because they didn't want to watch league one football got an MK away ticket ahead of someone much younger, who only attended every game whilst the club had been in league one and therefore had less points, but had been to many more games whilst we were shit. I don't mind fans who come back when the going is good. I just don't like ones who moan when they can't get a ticket especially for away games.
I am on 35k points but they seriously slowed down when my son came along almost 2 1/2 years ago. I couldn't get tickets on the away end at Northampton but neither did I think I deserved to either. I did however have my tickets already bought on the home end before our tickets came on sale knowing this.
Oh and if people can't get a ticket for chesterfield get one for Bradford!
Every club in the world has them,a club will not grow without them.I don't know about bandwagon jumpers but people who slag their fellow fans off at any opportunity are the worst
Don't usually agree with you, but have a like for that mateI'm so proud of our team. I want as many people as possible to watch and admire them. Many of them will go on to be as passionate (and silently nervous) as the rest of us
Lerremin.
Lerremallin.
That's the whole point. Why on earth do returning fans or new fans rankle so much with some?
