I work with a Bradford fan
He's a right comic

He's suffered with cancer this past two years and thankfully made a 100% recovery after some quite horrific treatment

He deserves a good end to the season and promotion however it comes

Hi fella. Thanks for kind words. Much appreciated by all Blades.

Question for you. In all the time Hanson was a Bradford player, several years I understand, did you ever manage to see him make a simple straight pass that actually arrived at a Bradford players feet ?

Just curious ;)

It would appear that there are some posters on this site that are suggesting that Chris Wilder can't spot a decent footballer !!

Hi chaps, congratulations on your promotion, and it is well deserved as you have been the best team in the division by far. I feel sure that you will go up as champions, it just shows that appointing the right manager is key.

I am also pleased for James Hanson, he deserves the chance to play in a higher division, and although I was disappointed when he left us, I was pleased for him that he got a good deal with a big club. He is a very hard working and honest player and I think that he will have a part to play for you next season.

I have a ticket for our next encounter, and I think that we will give you a game as we still have everything to play for. See you on Monday.

I'd like Bradford to do it this season it'd be brilliant if bolton fall to bits and you could pip them to 2nd.

Hi Citygent
I too would have preferred Bradford to have been nipping at our heels in 2nd spot.
Much better to see a proper football side than the hoof Bloton play.
Good luck to you for the rest of the season (apart from our encounter that is)

Hi chaps, thanks for the moral support, I think that we have blown the second automatic spot, unless the pressure gets to Bolton. As you guys know the play offs are a lottery, but I feel that under McCall we are a much better side than we were last season under Parkinson, and we may just have the know how and game management to get us through.

Moving on to Hanson, just too much was expected of him at Bradford since his partner Wells was poached by the Dog Botherers. We just don't have your resources (Billy Sharp), so in addition to playing the old fashioned centre forward role, we needed him to chip in with a fair share of the goals. For that reason he had to go, and it was a good move for him too, signing a long contract with a great club. Much as most of us liked him, he was the log jam that needed shifting for us to progress. I can see him not starting for you, but he is another option to bring on when things ain't going your way. He can do the simple pass, just be patient.

To be fair Hanson can and does make simple passes.

You probably already know this but even in the early days, the judgement on Hanson is very mixed.

The fact is you can see he's limited ability wise, tends to keep it very simple.
But he appears to be very effective, the centre forward most central defenders hate playing against.
Often he'll have 2 big defenders marking him at corners, so this frees up space for our other players.
Another massive plus is that Hanson is an asset at defending corners too.

So the conclusion seems to be that on the surface Hanson is rarely going to score, which is a big negative for a striker BUT he causes havoc in the opposition penalty area just by being there and it's gives his team mates a great opportunity to pick up the pieces. Also Hanson works really hard and seems to have a great attitude.

Personally I think he's a great tactical option to have, gives us much needed physicality which we lack, very different from any of our other strikers. I'm sure he'll be needed next season but might play quite a few coming from the bench.

Good point and he has had no positive impact on the team since arriving in January. None!

He is unable to pass a ball and as Wilder signed him, the buck stops with him.

Hanson out!
Wilder out!

You know it makes sense (in Dronfield apparently)

Yes, S18, the widely acknowledged centre of the universe, where we have a preference for our footballers to, well you know, play football.

The clues is the name. Football !!!

Hoofball, and hoofballers, need not apply ;)

I've heard from a great source that Wilder wants to sign Matt Smith and pair him with Hanson next season.

I'd like Bradford to go up just so I can go back to the Fighting Cock for the pre-match sherbets

I'd like Bradford to go up so I can have a curry at The Kashmir, the best curry house ever.

And there in a nutshell is my favourite day out in Bradford.

Sod the football, I go to Bradford just to do that.

The two points he won us with that superb header back across the goal at Peterborough justify his wages on it's own.

We've never looked back since then.

It's a team game and it really doesn't matter who scores, just so long as someone does.

Agree, based on his contribution so far, he's been a good buy and a success.

I remember back to the Fleetwood home game when they sat back in numbers, we had loads of attacks but never came close to scoring. That game highlighted our big problem of no height or physicality. If teams sit back then we struggled to break them down. Now we have Hanson that tactic no longer works against us.

Also there was a big pressure to play EEL with O'Connell, so then we had 2 commanding centre halfs.
However now we have Hanson coming back to defend at corners, we are much better defensively against set pieces and no longer need to EEL for his aerial strength.

Your first name doesn't begin with D does it mate....?

Nice comments pal would gladly welcome you to Championship with us, be nice if Bolton dropped away but can't see it so good luck in play-offs, hope your confidence don't get knocked following your visit to BDTBL!

Not a D mate, you must be thinking of someone else.

That sounds like a fair assessment on Hanson. I think you have given yourselves a more complete forward from what I’ve seen of Wyke but with us already having Sharp, Done, Lavery and Clarke, Hanson was perhaps that different dimension for us to vary things a bit more.

Can’t see him being a regular starter next season but a useful plan B to chuck on when we’re chasing the game and launching balls into the box.

Agree with that BUT, I’d still play EEL at Vale simply because of the problems he caused them at our place.

Ricky I heard he wants Matt Smith so him and Hanson can compete for the "big man" role - although where that leaves Clarke I don't know

I was just winding Dronnie up. I think it would be unlikely, he's only just gone to QPR and I don't think we'd offer anything they'd accept, let alone more in wages.

If we sign another big man it has to be someone who's more than just a big man. Someone with good footballing qualities.

It was a long shot.My mate Darren is a Bradford fan and the only person I've ever heard call Huddersfield the Dog Botherers so I was just wondering if u and him out of 20 odd thousand City fans were the same person....

Bloody hell. Bit of a blast from the past. Used to eat there most weeks as a student. Cheaper than making my own food. Gulab jammans were great.

I'm with most of the other posters on here hoping Bratfud pip Bolton. 5 years in Bradford and a few games at vp. I have a soft spot for the place in many ways it's like Sheffield. Lost its main industry and in the shadows of its gobby, superficial neighbour. Some absolutely beautiful buildings & scenery.
Failing that, playoffs and Fleetwood piping Bolton. Be good having 2 local games.

So a footballer then ?
Rather than someone who puts a tick in the "big" box ?
Not too much to ask. Is it ??

We had two defeats and a draw in the three games before Hanson was signed. There are weaknesses, him and Sharp do not comlement each other in every match scenario and he'll probably be a squad player next season.

But it is ignorant to dismiss that he's been a part of something that's worked very well and helped us secure a pretty comfortable promotion.

Cheers for the well wishes.

No reason to particularly like or dislike Bradford. But I'm buzzing for Monday, should be a great game and cracking atmosphere.

Hope you do manage to follow us up.

BB.

Watching games on screens, taking screenshots. and spewing out Stats as and when is no substitute for being at games.

You get to see the "bigger" picture. Surely you must accept that ?

Now, if the "ignorant" jibe is even remotely directed at moi, I would also suggest it is equally ignorant to suggest Hanson has played a bigger part in our success than has actually been the case. We were well on course for a top 2 spot before Hanson arrived.

Contrary to "expert" opinion, he doesn't wear a cape !!

Fortunately our manager has the sense to recognise that football is a TEAM game. This allows him to pick players with various different abilities to combine effectively as a TEAM.

TEAM sports differ from individual sports, as the combined effect of all TEAM members can often produce a 'whole, that is greater than the sum of the parts'.

Sadly some miserable morons always want to pick on members of the TEAM who do not fit their stereotypical profile of footballers. In recent years the scapegoats have included Monty, Stead, Quinn, Long and now apparently Hanson.

Fortunately the manager of our football TEAM has the sense to ignore these numpties and pick the best combination of players. He recognises that we are Sheffield United and not Barcelona, which is a sensible thing given our home is in......er.......Sheffield.
