Having scouted around on a few other forums to see whats floating about and opinions are of the game yesterday and it seems the end is nigh.

Beightonblade is like the wind, slagging united off and predicting a mediocre season for us, after what he calls a shite performance. Not mentioning last month he was going on about McCabe and its our season. How the winds change!

So why do we bother?

Fans have been slagging us off season after season, yet they come back again and again posting their depressing thoughts when the team needs support. I have even read about blackwell shouldn't be in charge as he's not a proper manager and McCabe "doing the fans over." The end of last season these same people where kissing the ground KB walked on for what he did.

We didn't do bad at all yesterday, the defence looked solid and showed it in the stats with them having 1 shot on goal all game. Yes the attacking option was poor but its the first game of the season, the team will grow in strength and there are many many points to earn yet, if we get behind the lads and not slag them off just because we lost.

It's disappointing to see fans writing us off after one game and moaning about this and that again and again, saying they have seen it all before.

So why do they bother?

Why do YOU bother coming to the matches?

I bother to support the team, even if we loose. yes i will disagree with decisions, but to call for the managers head after one game is ridiculous. I hope we go on now and win at QPR and to see what these people say then.

If we loose to QPR, i will still be at the next game, and the next, and the next......

It was a great performance defensivley & i cant see to many teams scoring against us. We just need that bit more quality in the final third. Calling for Blackwells head after 1 game is truly ridiculous though!
Lets see what happens with QPR next Saturday. I also think Blackwell will use the cup game to try one or two ideas as well.

Well keenzy yes the defence was good and Killa was immense.
Now what the f**k was Henderson doing ? What planet was Tonge on ?
and did our attack catch the wrong bus ?
The Blades went to Brum like when Warnock took us to Chelski, just like frightened rabbits.
If Blackie has £millions to spend how about some pace in the team ? what about the left side ? All this bollox about QUALITY not QUANTITY :D:cry2:

F**k it up this season and the Blades are in the shit bigtime.

The tactics worked for 92 of the 93 mins.

Relish had no service so he had to try and make things on his own. Tonge i agree was poor.
Squinny didnt do too bad IMO.

What quality are we talking about here? Who would you bring in?

Why do you keep watching united and spending money on them if your not happy?

It's what i like to call the 'Duckworth effect'. All Jack ever did was moan about Vera but the bottom line was that he loved her with all his heart and so the though of leaving her never entered his head.

There are very few absolutes in this world; death and taxes as the old saying goes. This can be extended to include football fans moaning; it's not unique to sheffield united and we are by no means the worst contrary to popular opinion (amongst blades supporters anyway).

Our attack was non existent

Why did Hendeson have no service ?

Ben Watson, we also need some pace and the left hand side is a joke.

Cause i'm a Blade.

What if Ben watson dosen't want to come to us? Who would you pick for the wing? Pace isnt everything, look at shelton.

Relish had no service because the midfield wasnt supplying.

Our attack being non existent yet we had more efforts on goal than brum. They had a better attacking force and we had to defend against that and try and hit them on the break.

Its early days yet and your slagging off the manager already.

Be a blade then and support them. 1 game dosent make a season.

The bottom line is, I was born a Blade and I'll die one too, I'm not the biggest fan compared, but nothing will take over the Saturdays I've spent, in the pissing rain, blistering sun, or the stupid winds. I love it, the atmosphere, the singing, watchin some top wuality football (Because we can play it) What else you gunna do?

Yes, yesterday wasn't the best performance, and why Cotteril was left on the bench is a mystery, but I wont right off any club at this moment. We know we can do better, lets see how it goes down at QPR before the daft fans begin sharpening their knives.

Someones gunna pounce on this :D

i agree with you tom, nothing can beat a saturday out with the lads at football

Because some of us cant think of a better excuse to get pissed on a saturday afternoon. :)

And so it begins...

First game of season and already it's doom and gloom. 'Halford's shit' 'He's wank get him off'. Personally I thought before he took a knock he looked ok, put himself about and his throw in's are such a weapon, if used properly. But the lad behind was on his back all the second half. Once he took his knock I agree, he looked disinterested, but that's not his fault if he wasn't brought off. Maybe if we did bring Butcha's boyfriend on something might have been different, maybe not.

I don't see why people couldn't see that we were close to a point in arguably the hardest game of the season. Who says we aren't to go on a 45 game unbeaten streak. Look at Reading other season, lost first game, lost one more all season. Let's take the positives out of the game and look forward to QPR, another potential tricky game. I haven't got a ticket or any money but I shall try my utmost to get to the game and support the lads, and I hope many others do too.

We stopped one of the (potentially) most potent offences in the league by adding Quinn and Halford to the midfield - a defensive line up (it almost worked perfect) - but Halford and Quinn are not wingers so Henderson got no service but made the most of what he got. Seems to me that if we can stop B'ham we can stop anybody and that's a lot different than the leaky defence that started last year. This is a base to build on, not one that has to be built. We are going to lose games but I still see us in the playoffs, at least.

Not many teams will go to Brum this season and come away with something.
Killa was outstanding motm, the defence soaked up plenty of pressure with ease.
Halford needs a couple of games under his belt to show his worth.

Attack wise almost non-existent,Tonge was lost,Hendo had no service except the long hoof ball.

Can't understand why Cotts wasn't introduced to get them crosses in for the likes of Hendo,Billy and then Webber.

Brums defence was beginning to flounder and that was the ideal time to introduce pace and go all out for the win.

3rd minute of injury time (gutted) Phillips hardly touched the ball, until then then wham game over, all our efforts for nothing.

Only one game into the new season, lets get our first 3 points on the board on sat against QPR.

No need to panic at all, just glitches which will be ironed out hopefully.

We need the "glass half empty" crowd on forums like this or we wouldn't have a debate would we? It would be posts like:-

"We were unlucky weren't we?"

"Weren't we unlucky?"

"I don't think we had much luck"

How boring would that be?

We need opinions like Beightonblades to keep the forum lively.

My take on things was this (although I couldn't give the match my full attention after chasing mini-BB around the pub for the majority of the match - must remember to tie him to the radiator next live match :D). If you go out with the intention of stifling the other team and getting a draw, you run the risk of getting stung at the end. Personally, I would have gone for it a bit more and played a more attacking formation which could have meant my team getting battered, who knows? Football is not an exact science because of that human element.

All in all, I think 0-0 away at a team who are going to be thereabouts at the end would have been a creditable result but they got a lucky goal.

It is definitely not time to panic, let's get behind the lads, get a good atmosphere in the Lane on Sat. and restore some normality to this division (Wendy top of the league? Oh pur-lease!)

Come on you red and white wizaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaards!!!!!

my wife and myself travelled from Germany for the openning game, and apart from the result i think it's been money well spent.
So Henderson looked a little unfit, but i'm sure we shall see some good stuff from him. The back four plus Kenny all great, and when Sunni gave a free kick away on the edge of the box in the 1st half he looked gutted, but still played great the rest of the match.
And for odd few shouting Blackwell out at full time, find another team to watch, as that is not what we need right now, just back the lads.

The back four plus Kenny all great.

Thank you johno! Last season it was a rarity if ever we saw paddy come to claim crosses and dominate in his box. Yesterday he looked confident and it helped the back 4. They were very good dont get me wrong but with paddys help the pressure on the can be reduced.

So Paddy catching a few crosses will not win us games nor will it get us goals but its a positive. A positive to go along with other postives like the fact Killa is godly in a red & white shirt, Sun was committed at RB, Webber is back fit again, Squinny looked sharp and keen and Speed remains solid as ever.

Ok we lost a game AWAY at possibly the toughest team in the league but name 1 team that doesnt lose games. There was a lot of promise and hope but it is only 1 game, just like the 1 on saturday which I can see us winning and hopefully quite comfortably.

UTB!

I think we have plenty of quality up-front. But it just didn't work at Birmingham.

Webber needs to come in for Sharp.

Webber needs to come in for Sharp.

Agreed.

Webber looked very lively upfront pitty the service to him was poor. He spent most the time coming into midfield to pick up the ball.

Sharp did alright but I think give Webber a start against QPR.

Most of the team played well apart from tonge.

The strikers didnt get the service they needed to cant really slag sharp off too much, even though i would have had webber on.

The thing we were lacking was the link from the defence to attack. tonge should have been that but wasnt.

Build on a solid back four and were away. just need the midfield link, everything else is covered.
