I think it is widely known the club have 2 real prospects at centre back in Sam Graham and Callum Semple. 17/ 18 year olds.

Wright is exactly the mentor these two lads need to push them onto the next level. Show them how to act on and off the pitch. Its guys like Wright that our club should be looking at to bring our future players through. He is a manager in the making.

Millwall had a dangerous break in the first half, Wright looked like he was getting beaten and decided it was a good time to bring his man down, not very gentlemanly but a quick decision and he definitely took one for the team.

Yep, he had just been beaten for pace and made the quick decision to take the lad down outside the box, rather than risk chasing him into the box.

That being said, Millwall players were going down as if made of tissue paper at times.

I can't understand it, he's quality and a natural leader/ organiser. I can't possibly see how he won't make the step up to Championship if (when) we get there. The way he reads the game is not John Terryesque (completely unable to read the game but makes up by making brave last ditch tackles to recover his errors), its as close to Paul McGrath as i've seen over the years.

We of all clubs should know how shit managers/coaches can ruin a good players' career.

It’s a term that gets thrown around perhaps a little too freely but if he maintains his record to the end of the season, that will be one hell of a personal achievement and will give him a place in the club’s history books.

Incidentally, I heard last night that the last time he was on the losing side in a game was against Chris Wilder’s Northampton.

I agree he's good enough and should get his chance. I've not realised before now, but last night I was close enough to the pitch to hear him shouting instructions to others as well. A few occasions last night for example he's advising O'Connell what to do as the ball is coming to him. This is great for the players around him.

I'm sorry I can't agree with the "legend" status. That word is thrown around far too easily and it should be reserved for players like, Hagan, Hodgkinson, Shaw, Woody, Currie, Hockey, Edwards, Deane, Agana, in my book. But I think JW is a very good player who reads the game exceptionally well and, for his height, wins a lot of balls in the air. His timing and positioning make up for any lack of pace or his 31 years. I think it just goes to show also that there are some players, probably many players, who have never really made a career outside of the lower leagues, but are still very good.

The fact that Oxford didn't want him any more suggests that they have someone even better (if so we should go get him) or they made a poor decision to let him go. Because to us he's worth a shirt every week. And it's great that he's enjoying this "autumn" of his career with us.

Oxford signed Curtis Nelson in the summer effectively replacing Jake Wright (left footed CB). Nelson was a player I was keen on us signing as he’s young, quick and strong and could develop into a very good centre half. He also became Plymouth captain at a very young age (21-22 I think). That said, I suspect he doesn’t bring what Wright does to the team. But if Oxford play with a flat back four, he might be as good or better for them than Wright would be in that system. The thing for us is that our back 3 suit our system perfectly. If we had Nelson, I suspect he’d be better in JOC’s position than in Wright’s but JOC is excellent in his role and getting better all the time.

If young Blades wrote to Booker saying he was their favourite he used to call at their house, meet their parents and give them some memorabilia. So legend has it he once sat down with a family of Blades for a Sunday dinner after they wrote to him. He turned out at innumerable club functions, supporters group's dinners, local football teams and would literally drop anything to do the fans or the club a favour. He sat with the away fans on numerous occasions and even turned out when Blades fans organised the Fulham Monty drinking session on a boat on the Thames near on 10 years after he finished playing.

Jake Wright is a good player and I'm sure he's a nice enough chap, but Booker was a genuine Blades Legend and a Terrace Hero. If you're still absolutely certain then fair enough, but I'll stick with Ooh Aah Bob Bukah.

I'm sure WalthamstowBlade can add more if necessary.

I like Jake Wright but he's a way to go to attain Booker status. That said, hes made a fair start.

You know what? Jake has already proved people wrong with outstanding performances this season so why can't he do it again next year? Ok, the Championship is a different beast (also known as La Liga to pork fans) but he is so cool and comfortable on the ball that i think he would be fine.

Paul McGrath played with such bad legs he never trained. He could hardly run but didn't need to.

Wright is 4 years from there at least. He's got a brain and the experience that cannot be matched unless you've got them both.

You Sir, are a club legend. Whether you are still around next season or not who knows ?, but your performances should be an inspiration to every footballer plying their trade in the lower leagues. I just feel that there is a bright career ahead of you in football management when you hang up your boots, but whatever, you will always be welcome at this football club.

Hats off to Jake Wright for a fantastic season - bringing much needed experience and leadership to the defence. Whatever happens with him next season, if we do get over the line, his contribution wont be forgotten - and like some have said - maybe he can make the step up - he is only 31 and doesnt rely on pace for his game.

Dunno about that - I don't think there's any unseen work done by Jake Maxwell Wright as it's pretty obvious to even the densest observer* that he's a phenomenal defender in the middle of a back three at this leave.

Lots of 'unseen' work, some of which has been seen (and heard) though; organisation, leadership and the ability to help less experienced players through difficult periods of the game. That's what Adkins wanted from Hammond and it's what Wilder has got from Wright.

I admire Jake Wright hugely like everyone else. In fact I would strike a medal for him. What? They will? Oh, I won't bother then.

I'm going to swim against the tide though and predict that Tufty will replace him for the Championship, at least as a 'first choice'.
