He's been poor for the last few games, yesterday especially. Maybe he's getting tired?

He is our captain ... He is class ... He's a Blade... He's taking us up ... no more needs to be said
Go back 8 years.

Revisit the threads that suggested it was wise to build the side, in an offensive sense, around Henderson, not Sharp.

Now to the present. And Mr James Hanson. Many (most ???) appear to believe we should build the side around Hanson.

Anybody see a pattern beginning to emerge here ??

I love Billy me...I'm going to give him a big ol' shake of the hand and say 'thank you very much' when I see him next.

He's weighed down by the burden of expectation ..
the goals he has scored are enough to get us in this position.. even if he does not get another this season we would not be top of the league without him

But not one person has said build a team around Hanson have they ? Sharp is a great player ,doesn't mean he cant have a couple of off games ,and suddenly people get panicky about him being replaced. Theres no drama calm down hanson and Sharp have taken us to the top with loads of goals whats the problem ?

A greater depth of understanding as to WHY Sharp has had a few off games is clearly lost on some.

No drama, no need to calm down. Just me expressing a concern that will impact the club going forward. Nowt more !

Billy was visibly tiring last night.

FWIW, I think he's trying too hard to get to 30 goals. It's resulting in him being out of position & shooting over like at Oldham. Billy 5 games ago would have scored a brace on Saturday.

I also think he'll get back on the score sheet against Coventry & fire us to the title.

Agree completely ,mentally he was struggling last night you could see ,if he had scored the goal at Oldham we wouldn't be having this debate ,one goal against SiSU to take us up and the garden will look lovely.

I guess it might be Wilder's tactics, but it sometimes annoys me when I see Billy out wide, looking to put a cross in/take someone on. IMO Billy should be in the box and be in the right place at right time like he always has been this season. I just feel as if he should be in the box, not out wide. Oh well, he's done wonders for us so I love him. Keep it up Bill

Maybe he's waiting for one of the other brilliant forwards we have to step up and contribute on the score sheet ..
Where are you Mr Hanson ... Done... Lavery.. McNulty ... Clarke ..?
Remind me How many goals have they scored between them?

...er, no, not really

Just to play the Devil's advocate, how many would Sharp have scored without the help of the first three of those?

Sharp openly admitted in an interview recently he's the sort of player who needs to team to be functioning well around him to be at his goal scoring best. I hardly think he's stood around deciding not to score because none of the other forwards are doing it for him.

Sigh

Bingo. Is the right answer ;) Including. Surprisingly, messrs Wilder and Knill, on this occasion (and only this).

Don't let Esa see this claim. He'll hunt you down like a dog and bore you to death with Google.

Why does Billy play so wide off a target man? Is it Wilders tactics or do Hanson and Clarke have BO?

I'd go with the BO !

Proper BO.

At the end of the Charlton game he could hardly move. He then plays on a beach at Oldham. Goes again last night....

Ideally he'd have been rested more in recent weeks, but he's so important to us that it's hard to justify. The weekend off will do him some good.

In place of a sensible answer. Okay Billy's Agent :)
I think Billy is 'doing a job' for the team to get us over the line. He's working the channels to stretch the opposition defence. Ideally someone else would do it and Billy stay more central to capitalise on the space but when Done was running around to help Billy he got slated for not scoring enough. Presumably there's a good player somewhere who's prepared to do Billy's running around whilst also being capable of scoring 15+ goals per season but we just weren't able to find one we could afford.

It's more from the goal kicks etc Attacking the Kop Billy puts a shift in down that side all season, battling big defenders. It's easy to see sat where I am. I'd just expect him to be nearer a target man from set prices from the back, but he stays so wide.

Don't know tbh. Maybe something to do with playing 532. From restarts the full backs are deeper and not providing the width they do in open play when they've got the chance to go forwards. If there's no width the defence can pack the central areas so it minimises the likelihood of us actually winning any knockdowns.

Which begs the question why do we do it?
