Was it an organised thing? Seems a bit random for shitloads of kids just to start doing that.

Only takes one and the rest just seem to join in. Like when you start a chant - sometimes others join in and it takes off, other times not.

God there's some mardy old bastards on here :D
It's a bit cringey but does it really matter?
You know what happens to clubs when kids stop going to the games don't you?

I really have found the attitude of our fans to be very bizarre. People leaving after 85 minutes really wound me up, and there are a few other things along with that which triggered my piss taking thread last night. This nerves thing really is utterly ridiculous. https://www.s24su.com/forum/index.php?threads/my-matchday.53659/#post-1274887

I hope being in L1 hasn't done permanent damage but I'm sure it's had some impact on many of our fans.

The mood amongst our fans was far better in the Ched season. And overall we had nowhere near as much going for us as we have now, and promotion wouldn't have meant as much because we hadn't wasted 5 years down here at that time.

That's another thing. Referencing your own threads. some people......

No atmosphere yet again last night. Was the same v charlton, i dont buy this were are nervous shit. The last couple of seasons its been lacking, best improve when we go up. More effort is needed by most of us i think. UTB

Totally agree, I moved back to the Kop after trying out the relative comfort of the South Stand and Westfield corner but finding both lacking atmosphere.
Wish I'd never bothered as I had to sit with my knees under my chin waiting for the chanting to begin. Even with it sewn up and 10 minutes left it didn't really happen other than in a few isolated areas.

United fans don't do 'party' or carnival atmospheres - at least not in the vast majority of seasons I've gone since 1989. I can't see it being nerves that kept the noise down last night. Who on earth could be nervous watching that??

As a bunch of fans we're more responsive to provocation. Last night provided none of that. And that's not a complaint or criticism. On the whole we're just a bit dour!

That was an embarrassment. Please don't do it again.

Was also saddened at the loud groaning at every misplaced pass, last season I could understand it but don't really see the need for it at the moment!

Other than that great evening though

UTB

The critism of the players last night from a number of 'fans' was simply embarrassing - quote from same individual 'Wilder get that Duffy off at half-time he's useless and get that Carruthers on he's a reght player.....fuckin Carruthers, he's a nightmare, he's terrible' - 'stop passing it back and gerrit up to sharpy' followed by 'keep possession and stop hoofing it' and 5 minutes from the end - 'are we gonna wake up at all tonight, this is terrible' I could go on but I hope he's not a newby season ticket holder who's trying his new seat out for next season. Appreciate we all see games differently but that wasn't terrible by any standards....I dread to think what he'd be like if we weren't 7 points clear of 2nd and 13 clear of 3rd!!

Singing to a hundred or so Millwall fans will hardly get the hearts pumping.

We were cruising in the game so there was no need to get the team going either, they perhaps could've helped the side in the last 10 to 15 mins to help them over the line but it felt like the game was already won.

No nerves from me or many others I imagine, maybe a game of football with no away fans, with a game already won didn't need a raucous atmosphere? I have no doubt that next season will be better.

Yes, whenever we're winning there's no need to support the team because they don't need it.

And when we're drawing everyone is too on edge to make any noise.

And when we're losing they're obviously playing too shit to deserve our support.

Sure it'll get better though. Magically.

Lower attendance for both the Charlton and Millwall matches than there was for Scunny and Bolton.

I think that is party the reason the atmosphere may have been a bit flat plus they didn't bring many.

Next season?!

I thought the atmosphere was going to improve when the nerves disappear?!

Good job atmosphere, lack of atmosphere, flares, phone torches et al make no fucking difference or we'd be well fucked.

Come away from, very nearly, every game thinking I'd seen a proper team playing proper football and happy with the days events.
It's only when I get on here I realise it's been a bit shit because there hasn't been enough noise.

Do you not think it's a little boring when the crowd is so flat though?

Surely you're going to enjoy a match even more if the atmosphere is good too?

Hell, a lot of the time a good atmosphere can take the disappointment off a bad result.

1. No. Boring is watching Blackwell inspired hoof/harry/scrap for 90 minutes, 46 games a season, with no respite.
2. I may do, but mainly because the "atmosphere" will generally because we've played well, in an important game, against a team with a decent following. It looks after itself.
3. No, it really doesn't. Taking over 5k to Villa Park for a 70's FA Cup tie against a team in a lower division and losing 4-1 wasn't helped at all. That's just one example of many believe me.

To expect an "atmosphere" in a Tuesday night stroll against a team with no support and little ambition is not going to happen in modern post 1980's football. Anywhere.

I just want to get out of this league. Like everyone else. The points are the be all and end all. Wilder and the players seem happy enough with the support and while a good atmosphere is obviously adds it's the points I want.
Can't slate the players, Done, Clarke and Long excepted, so let's slag the support.

I understand those with epilepsy concerns but how petty does anyone have to be to moan about kids with phone lights on.

As snooty said, he was watching the match. As were most people.

I reckon atmosphere at games is a reflection of local character. By nature Sheffield people are relatively quiet and understated, not like arrogant twats from Manc or Leeds.

All the best atmospheres I remember at the Lane are when we are underdogs and not expected to win - then we get behind our brave lads as long as they are giving blood.

As we move up the leagues we will certainly be underdogs more often and so as long as Tufty keeps driving them to go hard on the pitch the drive from the terraces will increase.

Actually, the atmosphere in my bit of the SS was quite good last night. I think as we get less nervous about promotion we don't have to worry about our blood pressure so much, and so we can allow ourselves to get a bit excited!!

Kids who used to use big fuck off rattles.

Kids who used to tie silk scarves round their wrists

Kids who use the torch on their phone.

Interesting that in Wilder's pre match interview he made a big thing of wanting the crowd to get behind the team to "get us over the line" yet it would appear this had little effect on the fans last night. He's probably wondering after taking us from the bottom of the league to nailed on promotion what more he has to do to get a reaction and a more supportive atmosphere for the team.

For those saying its always been like this just watch some of the old match videos Walthy posts on here, it wasn't. There was one recently of a match agaiinst Swansea, they brought no fans, there were far fewer than 20 k and yet you can hear our fans singing along all match and getting behind the team. Its how I remember many previous decades.

How times have changed.
Yours, a boring old but noisy fart.
