Yeah that's pretty much how I see it. I've changed my mind on plenty of players due to upturn in performance. I can't recall ever thinking a player was poor and being convinced otherwise solely by discussing it. That said, as BushBlade says, there are those moments where perhaps you'd not thought of something and it's pointed out by someone else which might make you re-consider to an extent. But not to the extent of moving from one end of a spectrum to another.

When we signed Hanson, I saw him as an impact sub a la chief but he surprised me with his first couple of performances. Lately though, he's reverted to more like what I expected. That's not intended as a dig at him. Just that he had a period of games where he played better than I thought he would. Now, he's winning headers and giving defenders a hard time but his weaknesses are also evident (lack of agility, hit and miss first touch, the time it takes to get his head up when receiving the ball, lack of pace etc.).

I think it's possible to take more notice of a player when someone points something out but any change in opinion would still be performance based, ie simply being better than you expected.

Still think Hanson has plenty to offer. He helps defensively and can be a handful in the box. Just a pity he's not three foot taller with some of the crosses we put in.

he'll be like aaron wilbraham is for bristol city target man left on the bench doesn't come on every week but comes on when needed to use as a battering ram against an opposition defense

Todays performance lets everyone know why chris signed Hanson! Could anyone else have held the ball up as well and led the line against Clarke and Gerrard like that! He makes our squad stronger and gives us the options that got us a point. (Cracking finish from OShea too!) Januarys signings got us that point today

Great lay off from Hanson for the goal ,he worked his balls off today. Very disappointed in billy today ,but you cant take him off because hes always there with a chance of scoring. He missed 2 great chances today. Sharp and Hanson should start most games together while they are still building a partnership.

Disappointed in the played out wide again top scorer to accommodate Hanson set up ?

Don't get me wrong, on that pitch, in a non footballing event where no footballl got played (Wilders words not mine), Hanson is your man.

But make NO mistake, when the pitch is not as big an issue as it was yesterday, the continued pairing of Hanson and Sharp will do little to help our top scorer in the division / country do what he does best.

He's a scored in all but 2 games he's played up front with Hanson and we haven't lost in any of those games. He hasnt scored alongside Lavery in the last 5 they've played together

I think both complement Sharp in different ways.

Hanson helps him when there's 2 big brutes against them as he fronts them up and stops them thinking about Sharp, allowing him to focus on his movement and getting into the right positions to score.

Lavery helps him more when the defence are smaller and more mobile, helping to stretch the game and create more space in front of the defenders for Sharp to hold the ball up and link play when Hanson isn't there to do so.

To give the stat a bit more balance, Sharp scored both his goals at Oxford after Hanson had gone off and Lavery had come on. Sharp undoubtedly has different roles depending on who his strike partner is, but I think he's just as effective playing alongside either of them.

I prefer Lavery as a player but Hanson has done just as much in terms of creating space and goals for Billy

The way Billy has played these last few games and especially yesterday maybe it's time to give Hanson and Lavery a chance.

Wilder never mentioned playing Sharp out wide,in fact our only widemen are wing backs was Sharp playing wing back or just playing shit ?

Drop our top scorer ? Seriously ? Sharp played well against Charlton or didn't you notice ? If this is a joke post I apologise
All players go through a bad patch and Billy is in the middle of a mini one at the moment so dropping him and giving him a rest could just get him back to his best, sorry Bartman it's all about opinions but I didn't think he played well against Charlton.

So any takers for James ?

Or is it back to being Co-op boy ?

Hilarious thread btw :)

Heard a rumour that High Green Villa are interested.

Might do ok there - should at least double his goal tally for us.

Is this really necessary?

Are you so sad that your only pleasure in life is to revel in the mis fortunes of others who have achieved far more than you're ever likely to?

The weird thing about gloating about Hanson’s downturn in fortune is that he was one of our players.
And he played an important role in helping us gain promotion.

Teams in league 1 were beginning to work us out, like in the Fleetwood, Bury and Shrewsbury matches. Defend deep in numbers and we really struggled to break down teams. We lacked physicality and Wilder had a problem

So what did he do. He brought in Hanson to rescue our season. Hanson was used as a very effective industrial battering ram. We lumped it into a crowded box and teams defending deep struggled.

Other clubs saw this and stopped using the tactics of parking the bus, defending deep in numbers.
This meant Hanson’s strength was no longer required.
Also let’s me honest Hanson was limited but always a 100% trier with a great attitude, so deserves respect.

Not funny, or clever or even remotely accurate.
Hanson was an effective solution to a way of playing a different system and also became a very popular player.
Can hear the sound of back-pedalling.

Not quite sure of the hatred for hanson. Played a vital role in pressuring defenders and was detrimental to a few goals scored via bill and co. Will always appreciate all the squad from the season where we ran rampant.

No hatred. Just constructive criticism.

Not vital. Not even remotely.

No back peddling here sunshine.

1 (absolutely vital apparently) goal sees to that.

A lad that couldn’t get a shirt in a relegated by Easter L1 side last season.

Vital indeed !!

What a strange character you are trying to belittle other posters by referring to them as sunshine. Presumably this gives you some kind of credence perhaps. It’s clear that we all have differing opinions and whilst I disagree with yours I will try not to make conciliotary or disparaging remarks.

You are untitled to your opinion in that referring to someone as “sunshine” is belittling.

Personally I prefer weapons grade c u next Tuesday, but each to their own :)
