So what do we go with bearing in mind we'll be playing on more of a potato field than a football pitch? I think this will be the most debated team selection for a while.

We'll have far more difficulty passing the ball so for me Hanson has to start to give us a geritforud option, as does Lavery so we've got someone to get on the end his flick ons and chase loose balls.

Oldham concede very few so we might need a clean sheet in order to win. So I'd go with the safe option and play Wright.

They also look like an experienced and physical team, so it might be worthwhile to go with as much physicality as we can. It will be a scrap.

I don't think they're much of a threat out wide and with Lafferty called up for international duty that's made my mind up that we should go 4-3-3 with 3 strikers.

Subs: Long, Wilson, Carruthers, Duffy, O'Shea, Chapman, Done

That could also become 4-4-2 when defending with Lavery moving to the left.

Could also see the logic in playing 4-4-2 diamond or sticking with 3-5-2 with O'Connell LWB, Basham LCB and O'Shea behind Hanson and Sharp. But I do feel Lavery should start. As for Duffy, with his recent injury in mind I'd probably save him for Millwall on Tuesday. Also feel the game could suit O'Shea.

I think Wilder might just leave it as it is and put Done in for Lafferty. I can see why he'd do that as it would mean minimal disruption, although I'd rather go with Hussey had he not been completely out of the picture.

I hope you're wrong mate ........ Done should be nowhere near the team ....... and certainly not at LWB .....

That would be a disaster ....

UTB & FTP

The best part about our squad at the moment is situations like this. We have so many different options and formations at our disposal.

I think he will go with the 4-4-2 diamond again with O'Connell at left back and Wright centre half. It wouldn't surprise me to see O'Shea or Carruthers behind Hanson and Sharp instead of Duffy.

I'd not be inclined to disrupt the 3-5-2, but I'd much rather O'Connell be shuffled out to LB rather than have Done there. Would like to see Duffy protected till Tuesday too, & would pack the midfield to seek to impose ourselves on Oldham, poor pitch or not.

i think he might start with Hanson and Lavary up front. I would start with Wright in the team because this could be his sort of game. Playing in the lower leagues, the pitch wont phase him.

Duffy would thrive on that pitch as he's been playing on them for most of his career at places like Scunny and Burton.

I concur young Ricky.

I think the pitch plays a huge part in selecting the team. If it is possible I think he will try to disrupt the team as little as possible but if the pitch is so bad that injuries may result he may not want to risk those carrying injuries already or just back. Hanson and Duffy both fit that category so while ideally I think both probably should start it might not be in our long term best interests if it risks that we lose them for future games.

Yep, I think he might start with Lavery/O'Shae or Carruthers for Hanson and Duffy for the very same reason's...

I don't get all the concern over this game. We are not managed by Danny Wilson anymore.
We are not over reliant on one player to score as fat lad didn't net the last two games. We can even manage without the undefeated Jake Wright.
Oldham are near the bottom because they are not very good. We are top because we are the best team in the league.
As for the team, O'Connell to left wing back and Wright back in defence with Caruthers replacing Duffy. Hanson and Sharp up top with Coalan on after a hour.
It will be a battle but I'm confident we will come back with at least a point.

Don't think O'Connell has the pace and agility for LWB, so I'd go 4-4-2/4-3-1-2

Moore; Freeman, Basham, Wright, O'Connell; Duffy, Coutts, Fleck, Carruthers; Hanson, Sharp

Could either line up with Duffy and Caruthers out wide or go 3 in the middle with Duffy in the pocket between Midfield and forwards. Think this game will see us changing shape a couple of times due to the nature of the pitch and opposition

If we're to go with someone in the 10 position there are reasons to select either of the three attacking midfield options.

Duffy - most hardworking and experienced, toughest, best defensively. I think he'll start. If not, I'd definitely be looking to bring him on, at least if we play 4-4-2/3-5-2.

Carruthers - trickiest, most likely to win free kicks/penalties, and that could be one of our best ways of scoring.

O'Shea - tallest, agile, I feel his game would be most unaffected by the pitch, most likely to score from nothing with a long shot in what could be a game of few clear openings.

Think I'd start with O'Shea with a view to bringing Duffy on early if needs be.

Anyone picking Done at LWB is forgetting just how utterly fucking useless he has proved himself to be in that position.

The Runarounders wont lie down, will they?... Pass me that shoehorn.

But Pinchy, he doesn't run around at LWB. That's why he can't play LWB. No scope for running around you see.
