Lavery

He worked hard yesterday and was puffing hard, I suspect that's why he came off. I was more encouraged than in previous games but don't see him as a natural goal scorer, more someone who may set others up.

Convinced he's the right partner for Billy, although not the tallest or biggest physically he's very good in the air and in physical battles, quick and clever on the ball and we've seen that in the Bury/Southend/Gills games. Wilder needs to keep him up top as the link up play he and sharp showed was superb yesterday and it'll be only a matter of time before the goals start flowing for him

I noticed that he has a good leap on him. Was winning headers and I didn't expect that from him.

I agree about the sub and maybe Wilder can take some responsibility for losing our momentum with the change

I think it's safe to say Lavery is a Blade. I get the impression he feels like he was screwed over by Wednesday.

He was never given a decent chance there and was loaned out several times. If you look at his playing record, he hasn't played that many first team games for his age. Hopefully he can develop with us and I think he could be a good player in the championship with his pace.

Exactly and for some reason Carlos preferred that lump Atdhe Nuhiu instead of him as a backup option.

So now we are a hoof team when Hanson plays ? Do you ever go and watch us ? Why not use Hanson and Lavery and Sharp during a 90 minute game ? Fucking radical eh ?

Hanson is another option during a match but given the choice I would start with Lavery and Sharp.

That's why I posted it, light the fuse and stand back! :)

see my previous - not anti Hanson at all - just think his football ability is limited - just like EEL.
Yep, both decent in the air - just think it's not for me. Some say it gives us options, which I accept - just not Hanson, there are better.

Hanson is a very useful option to have and is a better and more cleverer player than Clarke so he will have his uses as evidenced at Peterbrough. Lavery is a different player and a better one so would get the nod in most games ahead of Hanson for me. You could even play all three in some games with Lavery playing Duffys' role.

If anything, we've got too many good players. We struggle to give them all game time. But you just know that if we hadn't signed Samir, Jayo and Superhans we'd have had a couple of injuries that would have caused us problems.

I don't think anyone who lived through the anti-football of the Hoofy years would say we were now anything like that.

However, I do think it gives players an "easy out" and some of them do use it now and then. I thought Bolton, first half, was too much aimed at battering them through Hanson rather than playing them to death which is our usual MO (goal apart). Second half, with Hanson still on the pitch and playing his part in it, we DID play them off the park.
Perhaps we had to play like that in the first to enable us to play like that in the second! I don't know.

I DO know we are the countries top scorers, despite a lot of early season moaning that we were guilty of missing chances. Quite an achievement and I suspect we are getting more things right than wrong.
I can't adequately put into words the difference in my mood on a Friday, knowing I've got a game to go to on the Saturday, than last season when I barely knew who we were playing the day after and was dreading the experience.

Wilder is doing a fine job of keeping everyone happy.

Because no one can really complain with his selection policy - do well and the shirt's yours to lose. It makes it easier when the team's winning too.

There will be times when it might cause you to drop the odd point but in the long run the benefits of keeping everyone pulling in the same direction outweighs that. That'll be Wilder's thinking.

You are of course correct about the need to sign players in January - it certainly gave the fans optimism. The question with all our players is that a team never stands still and improvemnets can always be made.

I suppose what we should be starting to discuss is how the team could get better. Hanson, for me, will never be a first choice player. Samir has the ability to become first choice and unsure about Jayo. Perhaps Jayo won't be signed permanently when we go up.

Its an easy, and wrong thing to say Hanson is only good in the air.

He has a great touch, and a strength is bringing others into the game.

Sorry, but it's easy to see that Hanson is not good on the ground in the same way that ELL is not good on the ground.

He has his uses as does EEL but there is a reason why hanson came into pro football late - IMHO

The sentiment that keeping everyone happy is a possibility is a tad misleading. Players, usually via their agents, appreciate that Chris Wilder wants said player, but I doubt Wilder makes promises, other than to say to each agent/player just what he expects and that if the opportunity presents itself, then it's down to the player to take his chance. I'm sure there are exceptions, the higher the transfer fee the more likely the player is to get his chance, but that apart I assume that Wilder is an equal opportunities employer, but woe betide anyone who thinks they can take liberties and not feel the wrath of Chris!

When there's a momentum at a club, as there currently is with United, most enquiries by the club are met with interest by the player and his agent. As for the player's club, well they may not enjoy the knowledge that one of their better players is being courted by the Blades. Such is life in professional football. It's happened to United in the past so no real surprises, but we're currently in a strong position when it comes to approaching players with next season in mind.
