We were not lucky with the pen as Carruthers along with Flecks one two and another one two split their defence it was quality football that earned the pen and it was definitely a pen. Carruthers was brought down just prior to that as we split their defence open again. A quality tricky player will always get penalties because that's the only way defenders can stop em

Carruthers has been an excellent addition, its also nice to see O'shea get on the score sheet, Duffy injured replace him with an excellent attacking midfielder at this level. All January signings starting to play a role, some great business by Wilder.

Loads on here were slating Foresteri for going down to easy not that long back, suddenly it's deemed ok now.

That may be the opinion of others, but mine is the same no matter who the player is or who he plays for.

If you get fouled you go down, simple as.

If Carruthers is a diver at least he is decent enough at it. Che Adams when he was with us was a diver, just not very good at it. Best divers you have seen anyone - I'll start the ball rolling with Bremner, Giles, Gerard and Klinsman. :)

There's a difference between being a cheat and being clever.

Ruthers is clever in addition to having great ability and quick feet.

It's a requirement in football now to go down when you get fouled, because more often than not if you don't, you don't get anything from the referee.

Yep, and in addition to that he usually dived at the wrong times. Because he's fucking stupid.

Carruthers has a quick brain and very quick feet - both penalties have been because he has a skill level greater than most and has changed direction quickly on both occasions causing defenders to misjudge the tackles.

OK, so there might have been minimal contact, but it's too early to say he is a diver.

Does anyone know if he had this reputation at MK?

If you've got the speed and skill to do that then it's very hard for a 'big clumsy CB' not to instinctively stick out a leg...what's a chap to do? :D

Indeed - think it was Wheater v Bolton and the Swindon lad last night committed the cardinal sin of letting the attacker get in the box - a good defender positions on the edge.

Samir has been very clever both times - that should be applauded, not derided.

The added advantage being that if someone intends to foul him but slides 17 yards past him it is also a penalty

The referee appears in the video frame 2 seconds after Samir is brought down. He couldn't have been closer or had a better view from what I can make out.

I think it's a penalty but the ref was perfectly positioned to decide. Don't think their player complained.

That tells you just about everything you need to know.

He's not even in the same universe as piggy forestieri when it comes to the diving Olympics ........ that pig makes Daley look like an amateur !!:rolleyes:

He's like Francis Lee used to be ....... gets a touch on the half-way line and staggers 35 yards and goes down in the box ......... cheating pig bas**rd !! o_O

Well said CB.
It's cheating, alongside the play-actors like super-hard de Costa at Chelsea who writhes about in agony when a breath of wind from a tackle brushes his sock.
I agree with the post from Finners that it's always been part of the game....a poor part of the game I think.
We (pub side I played in) had a centre forward who did it week in, week out 30-odd years ago.
I didn't like it then, I don't like it now.
Football is a sport and should be played by gentlemen, but sadly there's too few of those around nowadays as well!!

We've been playing like "gentlemen" in this agricultural division for the previous 5 years ........ and got butt fu**ed by a large proportion of the Div 1 sides who pissed themselves whilst the incompetent referees at this level watched our players being assaulted, pushed, held, wrestled and thrown over shoulders without giving a foul :tumbleweed:

This season ..... tufty has us "looking after ourselves" for the first time and earning the right to play our football.

I hate cheating as well ....... evidence Gerrard in the Premiership against us ........ but if you're fouled in the box you go down in L1 or you get f**k all ........ and we usually get f**k all anyway as the referees and officials are so shit o_O

We were sitting close to the Swindon incident and had no doubt that it was a foul. This was the third time that Samir had held the ball up and invited a defender to foul him. He went down too quickly the first time, was fairly tackled (I think the ball went for a corner) second time, and on the third try the player definitely fouled him.

It was clever play. They were desperate for the ball to try to get an equaliser so someone running and controlling it so skilfully was hard to stop. Every time Samir got the ball he headed straight for the penalty box so that if he were fouled the ref would have to point to the spot. He had only just made it when the Swindon player took his legs away. I'm sure he didn't mean to foul him, but there was no way he could get to the ball unless he did so.

The ref gave the correct decision.
