It's modern football, if you're fouled, you go down, what's wrong with that?

Nothing at all . If you get a reputation for diving you don't get the benefit of doubt IMO . Would rather the fella score goals from open play , which he is capable of . Just a observation . You have to be a canny clever bastard .

A reputation for diving didn't hurt Barca last week did it?

Reputation for diving....well if you can't beat em, join em.

Certain types of players win penalties, those prepared to take players on in the box. Some you win, some you don't.
Today was our day.

My point entirely couldn't care less what rep we have after the way we have been screwed over by the officials over the the.

Rob Styles against Liverpool being the worst decision ever.

He is a very clever footballer, far to fleet of foot for 3rd division defenders,in a full season in this league he would get us 10+ penalties.
As I said a few weeks ago he is like Jack Lester when it comes to winning penalties, Billy Dearden and Vas Borbokis were similar

That's because Gerard dived isn't it? And was hated by United fans ever since.

So you're saying it's ok for our players to dive but not for the players of other clubs to dive?

I tell you what I think - I think diving is cheating. I think football is a sport. And I don't think there's any room in sport for cheating. I'm not happy if our players are diving to try and win pens. If they are clearly fouled in the box that's different. A foul in the box is a penalty - that's within the rules. Diving is something else. That is when a player pretends to be fouled but isn't. I don't like it, not from others or from our own.

The actual decision to award a penalty is down to the officials and not the player going down.

The difference between Samir & Frosty Fairy is that one is well known for blatant cheating and the other isn't.

Funny thing was a few minutes earlier he beat his last man several yards out from the box and was brought down yet the eccentric ref waived play on, utterly amazing. Why would a player go down instead of running in on goal?
I thought both were fouls but interestingly from the video the penalty looked less clear cut.

Sorry but this thread makes no sense to me. Last nights was a blatant pen & the Bolton one there is no clear angle that shows a dive. If he stayed up he would have had a clear goal 6 yards out. That combined with the replays is enough for me to say penalty.

Just because the lads been awarded 2 penalties doesn't mean he's dived or will get a name for himself.

He's just a tricky player who defenders struggle against in the box. Why can't we just leave it at that??

Hes got quick feet and opposing defenders know it. If they can't get the ball from him without contact then lucky for us.

Samir is no cheat that's for sure.

My OP was not suggesting cheating,i think both penalties he has won were clear cut,my point is he has very "quick feet" and at this level that will induce fouls and if in the box, penalties, that's all !!

its a symptom of just how good he is at this level, and to be fair he isn't "wilder" fit yet, just wait till properly up to speed, and as for winnning pens, I'll have that all day long, exactly the sort of player we've been crying out for.. will prove to be a very good piece of business...

My reply was more aimed at how the thread devolved into comments about diving. For him to be even mentioned in the same breath as the pig cunt is ridiculous.

Shows how strong we are that he is still only a fringe player

Well said CB.
It's cheating, alongside the play-actors like super-hard de Costa at Chelsea who writhes about in agony when a breath of wind from a tackle brushes his sock.
I agree with the post from Finners that it's always been part of the game....a poor part of the game I think.
We (pub side I played in) had a centre forward who did it week in, week out 30-odd years ago.
I didn't like it then, I don't like it now.
Football is a sport and should be played by gentlemen, but sadly there's too few of those around nowadays as well!!

I don't like cheating in sport either from Utd and especially from others when we play them. Weds have a team of them who fall over like they've been shot if you so much as loom at them funny. They are blatant cheats hence the number of yellow cards they get for players diving.

Utd aren't in the same league as the pigs when it comes to players going over 'easy'.

For what it's worth and the penalty decisions against both Bolton and last night. Both fouls and both rightly awarded. If they had been given against us I wouldn't have grumbled. I would have just thought we had defenders who need to wise up fast and who don't need to allow the ref to make a decision. No cheating from SC both pens.

Agree. On the televised FA Cup tie the other night Costa got kicked all over the field by Rojo and got nothing (noticed before refs tend not to blow fouls for him anymore). Meanwhile, a couple of taps on Hazard and a player's off...

I am not saying it is acceptable what i am saying is i wont get stressed or upset about it purely for the fact we have been screwed over on numerous occasions which have had big consequences as a whole for our club.

The players that blatantly dive and try and con the referee should get a straight red in my opinion anyway that would soon put a stop to the blatant cheating from certain players in the game.

I think he's looking a top player. I was surprised/a bit disappointed that O'Shea was selected ahead of him last night.

He's quick, energetic, tricky and creates opportunities - at the mo I'd select him ahead of both O'Shea and Duffy given his performances at Oxford and last night.

Absolutely spot on.

I've spent all season watching Coutts, Fleck and Duffy being kicked, held and tripped by less technically able opponents; see Billy being literally wrestled by plank centre-halves week after week; and see incompetent official after official fail to give us even half the decisions that they should.

We must be amongst the most honest sides out there. For anybody who cares to watch, United's players almost always try to stay on their feet when they're being fouled. Not that it does us any good, because it results in us simply not being awarded free-kicks and penalties in this era when referees seemingly require the player in question to fall over in order to help them make the decision.

Quite extraordinary, although some might say characteristically perverse, that we now have a thread that hints at creating for one of our own players a completely unwarranted reputation for diving. For what its worth, the foul on Samir last night was as clear as day. The reaction of the Swindon players tells you everything. Not one of them protested.

As for mentioning anyone in the same breath as that horrible little turd at S6, that is ridiculous. Quite frankly, as most of football knows, he is in a class all of his own.
