Oxford on Tuesday

I would have thought that Oxford & Wilder would both have fond memories and mutual respect from their time together. It was Chris who brought them back from the abyss of non-league football. I don't expect any favours though.

Never scored a Football League goal. He last scored for Halifax in the Conference over 10 years ago.

The only thing is , what do we expect . Shit pitches are the norm in this league . Level playing field and have to overcome it .

Also opposing opposition will raise there game because it's us . Wilder and team with not many games left have to overcome this , like they have done with every other obstacle .

It's what you call champions . We are not there yet , far from it .
 
Many Oxford fans see CW as a traitor for defecting to the Cobblers. Needle match. We will need a much better performance than at Spotland to even think about avoiding defeat , but I am sure CW will have had a few words with the team by now.
 
It won't be easy on Tuesday. One of the poorer pitches in the league, a fired-up home crowd who really want to get one over Wilder (who guided them to promotion from the Conf).

The midfield battle will be key - they're comfortable in possession with Lundstrum always showing for the ball and keen to dictate play.

Going forward, most things go through Maguire so if he is indeed missing it will be a bonus.

I think a smash & grab 0-1 result is likely.

Most Oxford fans, rightly or wrongly, we're glad to see the back of him. He didn't do particularly well there and the football was nothing like he has gone on to produce since.

I think we need to take care not to let our enthusiasm for Tufty rewrite history. His record was mediocre until he went to Northampton.

Do you just sit at your computer all and make this stuff up?

In his first season (appointed in October) they suffered a 5 point penalty for fielding an unregistered player.

In his first full season he took them back into the Football League.

Incorrect - most Oxford fans dislike him now because he left for Northampton after Oxford continuously stalled on a new contract and then only offered a 1 year extension. They didn't want him to leave at the time no matter what you read.

Ever since he started at Bradway FC, he's left every club he's managed in a better state and higher league position that when he joined
 
We need a " view from " from our resident weirdo to help clear this whole CW/Oxford scenario up .

I worry for us tomorrow night. It's the perfect time for a blip, i'm just waiting for the moment we really blade this up cos it's been far too plain sailing so far....hope to god i'm wrong

Is getting them out of the Conference and back into League football mediocre? I'm not sure but I thought that he'd done that with very little investment to help.

he never got a beann all the time he was there
even when they got back in the league he got nothing
keeping them in league 2 was near miraculous

Feel exactly the same way.

I know people get fed up of hearing 'this is the biggest game of the season' and things of similar ilk, however, for me this would be the most vital 3 points of the season (ironically, for me to date the biggest 3 points were those v Oxford at home).

Cant overstate what the 3 points would do for us, especially as we aren't playing on the weekend.
 
This time of the season league positions and the form book go out of the window. It's one-off game and anything could happen. It's going to be a rainy, windy night in Oxford. I'll settle for an ugly win.

 
Tricky game. We've got away with our mediocre form since Southend because our main rivals have been in poor form. We could really do with a win but I suspect most would take a draw.
 
Unpredictable side Oxford, started the season poorly and looked like they were going to struggle after selling their 2 best players Roofe and ODowda and replacing them with lesser quality.

They have improved as the season progressed and have played the loan market well with McAleny a particularly astute addition to the team.

However they don't have strength in depth and the run to the final of the checkatrade has taken its toll with 4 of their best players currently injured and Maguire very unlikely to play tomorrow.

I think Wilder will get a mixed reception as they respect him for taking them up but going to one of their biggest rivals didn't go down well. Wright will get a good reception, he did well for them and they only let him go as they signed Nelson from Plymouth.

A tight 1-0 victory to us.

Fleck and Sharp both played like they’d been out on the lash the night before. Real off day for both. Sharp managed to salvage it with a goal but Fleck just couldn’t get going. I think the pitch hindered his game both in terms of the quality and the size of it. Coutts seemed to cope better with it though.


Perhaps just one of those days.

Also, that defence has conceded 1 goal in 5 games prior to Saturday. I think we had a bit of a collective off day and Rochdale did quite well at the same time (with ex-blades Davis and Mendez-Laing doing well). Hopefully we’ll be back to our best tomorrow. Wilder will have the data on players who may or may not need resting.


Even though we were a bit off Saturday, some of the play from Duffy, Freeman and “Snake Hips Basham” down the right side in the first half was scintillating.


And what a goal from Lafferty. In the words of Nigel Adkins “Wowza!”

No, I read what some Oxford fans were saying each of the many times he was linked with us. "Have him" or "I'll drive him" were amongst the suggestions. His Oxford team was dull, basic and no better than workmanlike. That's my opinion. I saw them.

Many, many Oxford fans were disillusioned with him long before he left them.

Personally, I don't give a fuck what Oxford (or any other) fans think but I don't believe in Football Alchemy. Tufty's 15 year record was absolutely average prior to Northampton.

He's great right now. That's what matters. I ❤ Tuftyball.
