If we'd had Jamie Murphy yesterday, we might have won, so it's not clear cut....
Yes you're right there. The sods would keep jamming the mower so the Rochdale groundsman would have a he'll of of a job.

The pitch was a proper cabbage patch, and it should have been a bit of a leveller but it shouldn't take any credit from Rochdale who played some great football on it, and can take a lot of credit for making it very difficult for us. They played a fast, high tempo game and never let us get going or let us build pressure on them, in one of the most outstanding performances against us this season. They can also take credit because in the second half I expected them to start tiring as the pace of the game was frantic, but if anything they upped the tempo towards the end.

Without being particularly negative about United I thought we deserved to lose, we went through a very stiff examination and just about had enough spirit and character to be able to withstand a very tough Rochdale side to come away with a point which personally I didn't really feel we merited.

that pitch is two weeks old....how can it have been so bad? (I wasn't there by the way)

Its about progression. I think the club should be praised for spending wisely on developing infrastructure Desso Pitch, undersoil heating, proper drainage, improving facilities - 3 sides of the ground now appear to have excellent facilities and the club are continually improving this, with a new club shop in the planning phase. Away from the lane, Shirecliffe has been an excellent investment too. We still need to improve the Kop facilities though!

Away pitches should never be used as an excuse and great to see Wilder commenting on Rochdale being better instead of blaming the pitch, conditions, the ref/ lino, ticket allocations, player illness or the aggressive nature of the opposition... which has been the case in recent weeks...

I'm surprised that teams with Shit pitches don't complain when they come to the lane and play on the Desso, the closest thing i remember is that we had a team come this season and talk about players having to change their boots at half time

However much Rochdale played above themselves I can't see any reason why we deserved to lose or didn't merit a point?

Possession was about equal. Each team had seven shots and each scored three goals. We had six corners to their four.

A bit more Bladey cap-doffing methinks...

Because its fresh terf laid in February then has had a bucket load of rain on it and rugby looking at the markings .it was a shocker .good point

If anyone ever thought the lane pitch was a bad investment ,have a look that potato field we played on today. An ability leveller if ever there was one ,seen better in Concord.

Yeah. Our Desso was a leveler for Southend and Fleetwood, wasn't it? They play on shit pitches week in, week out and beat us on our own surface.

Just sayin' ...

How can investing in the infrastructure of the club be a bad thing?

Of course we all know the balance has to be right but it sounds like if you had your way we'd still be playing in a three sided ground after John Street was demolished.

So you would rather see football played on a lottery pitch that we played on yesterday ? Maybe Southend or Fleetwood played better football than us on the day that wasn't the point ,we know what yours is and its ridiculous.

No, what I am saying is (and have said before) is that we have won on pitches as, and more shit than Rochdale's, this season and in the past. People (such as you) can subscribe to the fallacy as much as they want that the Desso was a sound investment and very much needed, but there is no evidence it has reduced injuries, no evidence it has improved play and no evidence it has multiple us to generate further income to the club. We failed to get promotion last season with a ridiculously inept squad and a piss poor manager, playing on the Desso. Two things have changed since then and it isn't the playing surface. And you can't explain us playing well on away pitches to further refute any of that.

If that is ridiculous, then I am happy with that. Just keep drinking the Kool-Aid and hope McCabe fulfils his pledge to invest big next season to keep us in the Championship with a great playing surface, etc ...

Investing in the club infrastructure is viable when the club is generating income to do so. Lets say when it is up near the top of the Championship pulling in telly money and gates are consistently above 25k. To get there you have to retain your talent and play to your strengths. I can't see any talent we had at the club two years ago which we could confidently say wouldn't be flogged for an undisclosed for whatever shit reason (like 'we couldn't stop him' even after signing a three year contract)

Seems like we are there now, and have avoided breaking up Wilder's team. As said before, twelve months ago we had a dismal team and a dismal manager playing on a superb surface (and still shipping goals and points at home) Two of them have changed. So to me it is in spite of Desso not because of Desso we are where we are.

We've only had it for one season and this.

We've only had it for one season and this.

And the inaugural season showed no return, regardless of people jazzing in a sock about 'investment'.

Tell me ... if we had exactly the same manager and team as last season today, do you think we'd be top by five points? I'd say getting the right balance down on the playing surface is more critical to success than providing the Rolls Royce of pitches. And no one still answers why we are successful away from home on poorer pitches than BDTBL.

You have to go to the match to see if it is a lottery. Otherwise opinions are passed on 90 second You Tube clips.

Just answer me this, what's been the most impressive department and the driving force behind this season?

In fact, I'll answer it for you, the Midfield. Fluid movement, sharp passing, moving the ball with quality.
Good luck doing that on a farmer's field.

Not this load of bollocks again? The difference this season is we have a manager who has got a clue and we haven't sold off our best players (not that we had any left to sell) we only sold off our youngsters who were not part of the first team and an ill discipled jug eared ........................... you know the rest ;) Maybe if we had kept our best players we wouldn't be 6 years in league one, just a thought. Fuck all to do with a Desso pitch.

A bit more Bladey cap-doffing methinks...

Were you actually there?

We faded badly and were almost hanging on at the end. Crappie pitch didn't help but we never played as a team and all three goals conceded were very poor.

Even the support was mediocre. More than 50% of the crowd but we never managed more than one half arsed song every 5 minutes. Not been to that many aways this season but I didn't particularly enjoy yesterday.

So says one of the Dessolettes, didn't you also say we would emulate Blackpool?

And it happens on the Desso and elsewhere which isn't Desso. So the gains are not attached to the Desso. If that were the case, we'd lose every away game.

Please try not to attribute credit to an entity where there's no tangible proof of its effect. The midfield plays good this season because we are well rid of the luggage we were supposed to be satisfied with as replacements for the vanishing margin of quality we used to have. We have acquired players whom no one had any certainty about and have a manger who knows how to get the best out of. And they are turning it on, Desso or not. See our league position? That is because we have won eight games away, and drawn three, all on non Desso pitches. Your argument is invalid.

We have had results at Gillingham, Wimbledon, Chesterfield and Shrewsbury but to name but four, all of their playing surfaces less than ideal. Tell me where that factors into your argument that the midfield can't play on shit pitches.
