No one wants the Blades to leave Bramall Lane. But let’s say that we got back in the PL and managed to stay there. As much as we love BDTBL the facilities are poor, the kop is not fit for purpose and there’s no room to expand on two sides.

So we could make do with the same stadium with a rebuilt kop and possibly another tier on the South Stand, or we could rebuild from scratch, turning the pitch 45 or 90 degrees and constructing a completely new stadium around it. With the extra space behind the kop and the South Stand, there is the space to build a mega, 50k capacity stadium on the site.

Would that idea fly at all or are we too much in love with the Lane as it is now? If we do ever manage to establish ourselves in the PL, its a question that's bound to be asked.

Nah.

If there was ever a time we need for major extra capacity we have room on the Cherry street and Shoreham side to expand, as per the Newcastle and eventual Anfield plan.

It may look lopsided but it would fulfil the need.

It's many many years away if ever from being needed.

I don't give two shits about the Premiership so I certainly have no time for this bizarre recent handwringing about our home which is widely acknowledged as being among the finest grounds in the country.

It has seats, it has kiosks, it has places to piss = facilities.

Now to rebuild we'd have to go and play elsewhere for a season or two. So we're off to Old Trafford then.

With the corners filled in properly.
Yeah. The old streetwise corner looks like it was designed by a kid. We need to turn one of the boxes into a studio too so Sky don't have to pop up that eyesore green thing in the corner between Kop/South stand

I do agree but having to wash your hands in cold water on the Kop on a freezing cold Tuesday night in 2017 is unbelievable. I've considered taking warm water in a flask just to wash my hands after the inevitable half time piss.

50k is not as daft as it sounds, one thing McCabe has done well over the past decade is feed the club to the youngsters with free and cheap season tickets therefore building the support for the next generation. We are hitting 27k after 6 seasons in this shit hole of a league, the demand is only going to soar with progression in higher divisions.

Crazy talk

We would only require a small expansion in the PL.

The Kop is the most outdated stand, so do that.
Capacity increases to 36.5K and that's enough for most games in the PL.

If we see some success and gates rise.... then we will consider the South stand taking it to 44K.

Let's invest in the 1st team squad if there is any spare cash knocking about, the ground is adequate for where we are at the minute. Ultimately most supporters want a return to the Premiership and our owners are praying for it but that's miles away at the moment.

Let's see what they do with prices if we get promoted. After the hugely laudable cut last summer, I think we could be in for a sharp intake of breath. Especially given the cost of competing in the Championship.

Bramall Lane has ample space to develop the stadium further if/as and when. But like others have said all thats needed is a rebuilt Kop holding around an extra 8k to include corner seating that matches on both Shoreham John St and Shoreham Cherry street.
40k is more than enough for any realistic scenario.
Leaving The Lane isn't and never should be even posted here under any circumstances.

Flatten the Kop and rebuild the thing. That's all that's needed.

Don't think that's cost effective.

Hence why the plan was to bolt some seats on to the back and build new massively improved concourse areas, toilets and catering facilities and still some space underneath the extension for conferencing etc.

Why on earth would anyone even think about knocking down the Lane? It is one of the best grounds in English football which most clubs look at in envy. Full of character, history and is the most intimidating ground of all. What exactly would we replace it with? A bowl? Extending the Kop, then possibly the south stand would be more than adequate, as we wouldn't need a ground anywhere near 50k. This is our home.

You wash your hands?

Do you sit down to piss as well? ;)

The design was by extending on the back of the Kop the current capacity won't be affected.
I think we'd lose some seats at the back but most of the Kop will be operational during the season.

of course its very cost effective , the massive square footage of useable space where a mound of rubble sits is a huge waste of potential

That said already sorted.
The planning permission was to build an office block in the corner between the Kop and South stand.

In that office block is a fancy media centre with a posh tv studio facing the pitch ( just for Sky).

Having recently shifted 40 tonnes of rubble from my back garden, I can vouch for the financial pain of disposing of crud. :)

Rather than adding 3000 extra seats onto the existing profile, the kop needs flattening and building from scratch
The problem we would face is that a single tier kop with approx 13000 seats, with increased legroom and at a steeper angle would be a lot taller structure, and would need new planning permission
an alternative however, would be a lower kop but taking it around to join the south stand
If the law changes, the ideal scenario maybe a kop that has 8000 seats, and 5-6k safe standing behind
..you never know
would never consider moving from the lane tho, that would be heresy
