I appreciate it's subjective, but I wonder what value our board and Chris Wilder put on the squad? For arguments sake, let's suppose we've just been promoted to the Championship and we are judging this based on the length of contract left on each individual player:

Simon Moore - £500k - Promising young player and has made a big difference between the sticks. Not the finished article by a long stretch and is prone to the odd error, but shows good leadership qualities.
George Long - Free - Has had some good spells in a United shirt, but his poor performances at the start of this season mean that confidence in his abilities has reached an all time low. One to get off the wage bill.

Kieron Freeman - £1 million - Free scoring right-back / right-wing-back. Improved vastly.
James Wilson - £100k - Not had much evidence of his abilities, but can't force his way into the squad.
Chris Basham - £500k - Loved by some, loathed by others, Basham is a tireless worker and can play across the back line and in midfield.
Jack O'Connell - £1.2 million - Young aggressive centre-half with a good head on his shoulders. Will go far.
Jake Wright - £200k - A fine player and important to the team, but at his age and with his lower league reputation, suitors will not be offering much in the way of cash.
Chris Hussey - Free - Isn't going to get game time. Needs to move on.
Daniel Lafferty - £200k - Solid League One player, not much more.

Paul Coutts - £700k - One year left on the contract of this midfield maestro. Hopefully we can tie him down.
John Fleck - £3 million - Our most valuable player and most naturally gifted midfielder in years. Needs to add goals to his game, but otherwise he's the bees-knees.
Mark Duffy - £200k - Fantastic on his day, but at 31 years of age, his performances are likely to decline.
Stefan Scougall - £150k - Works hard for the team but his opportunities have come to an end. Doesn't fit the system and style we want to play.
Ben Whiteman - £500k - Having an excellent spell at Mansfield and needs to continue his improvement. Potential is there.
Louis Reed - £100k - Taken a massive backwards step this year. Needs to be loaned out or sold.
Samir Carruthers - £700k - Early in his Blades career but has shown touches of class despite obvious lack of match fitness.

Matt Done - £200k - A player that I like but will struggle to step up to the Championship
Marc McNulty - £100k - Hopefully Portsmouth will swoop
Leon Clarke - Free - Always seemed bizarre that he was given a 3 year contract at the age of 31. Needs to come off the wage bill.
Billy Sharp - £1.4 million - At 31 his fortunes will decline, but he is central to our success.
James Hanson - 500k - Was a snip for us because his contract was running down
Caolon Lavery - £1 million - Needs to find the net on a consistent basis, but has the attributes and skill to be a good player.

Total value - £12.25 million

If Whiteman and Brook's were on longer contracts they're already worth £3m+ in the current market

I think that's perhaps harsh on Lafferty, who could probably command a fee over £300k.

We would also be lucky to receive over £1m for Billy as he's on the wrong side of 30. Regardless, he will probably finish his career here.

I think Sharp's value is very ambitious. While he is vital to us and our success, I couldn't see a club paying more than £500k for him.

A great idea but given the ages of Sharp, Duffy and Wright I can't see us getting very much for them at all.

Sharp's wages would put most clubs off although of course his value to us is far more than his current 'market value'.

Equally it's a bit fanciful to suggest that by Carruthers and Lavery signing for the mighty Blades, their values have suddenly increased by £500k apiece.

Maybe get back on Football Manger and make a few alterations?

I know where you are coming from -my valuation here was based more on what it would take for us to sell him I suppose.

Basham, I think that one is a bit ambitious. I'd say nearer £200'000

The rest, yeah more or less where I'd guess at.

Carruthers was out of contract at the end of the season when we got him. Lavery was out of contract. Any fee we paid to bring them in reflects that.

That was my impression of both of those deals, especially Carruthers. Didn't they sell him cheaper as they didn't want to lose him for mowt at the end of the season.

Was it a tribunal fee with Lavery, or did we agree a fee with the noisy neighbours for him?

It was rumoured that Carruthers was sold to us for less than Charlton offered - just to piss Karl Robinson off.

Lavery was a nominal tribunal fee.

The value of both went up the minute they signed for us.

It's supply and demand. Unless another club wants them and can afford their wages they're all worth nowt.

That's a ridiculous rumour though. What businessman would actually do that?

The same one who decided it would be a good idea to buy Wimbledon and risk reputational damage for the entirety of the MK Dons' future.
Reputational damage? Have you seen him? I doubt he gives a fuck what people think of him.

McCabe employed Brian Robson, which is in 'catastrophic decision' territory but he wouldn't sell a player on the cheap to piss another manager off.

No, he just sells them on the cheap to piss us off ;) *

*oh come on, that was a tap in :)

£1,000,000 for Lavery is a stretch considering that's what Wigan paid for Bogle.

The best question would be "what would we sell them for?". The total there would be about £2m max.

Those whose contracts expire in the summer are now worth nothing.

I'd value the rest like this assuming certain players' one year extensions are triggered:

Moore - 400k
Freeman - 400k
Basham - 400k
O'Connell - £2m
Wright - 200k
Lafferty - 200k
Coutts - 500k
Fleck - £3.5m
Carruthers - 750k
Duffy - 250k
Sharp - 750k
Hanson - 225k
Lavery - 350k
Done - 150k
Clarke - 75k

Then the fringe players:

Long - 250k
Wilson - 50k
Hussey - 50k
Scougall - 100k
Reed - 350k
Whiteman and Brooks - £1.5m+ if under contract, whatever a tribunal will demand if they're not.

So about £11m before Whiteman and Brooks. If those two have a good 6 months next season they could almost double the total squad value.

Fleck - £3.5m

Wow, tempting to give up the day job and just trade in 'Fleck options'!

The thread started at 2.31pm and Fleck was said to be worth £3m.
By 4.36 he's worth another half a million quid.

If we can hang on to him until the end of the season we will be able to sell him and buy loads of new Desso pitches!

Just hold onto your stock until the Chinese come for him.

If I could buy shares in John Fleck I would!
