Having played the local scene for many a year, I am familiar with a whole range of set ups....From Sunday League, to Amateur Leagues and on to non-league. I've spent cold Sunday mornings using the boot of my car as a changing room and then i've been at clubs who have been total luxury, with changing rooms, hot showers and the complete set up.

At certain clubs there was a certain criteria in regards to the level of facilities that had to be met in order to participate in certain leagues, for instance Brunsmeer FC.......In order to compete in the Meadowhall Sunday League, the club had to have a home ground with changing rooms and working showers etc......In fact, in the past I have known a club be promoted to a better standard of Sunday League football and raise five figure sums in order to build the required facilities in order to participate at that particular level.

...............................................................................................................................................................................

You then look at League One......

Our game at Peterborough on Saturday is potentially at risk due to a forecast of low temperatures and show showers, along with many other fixtures in League One and League Two which makes me think......Is this really acceptable at this level?

It is 2017 and we are looking at a league which consists of mainly established football league teams....yet so many so called "high profile" teams at this level such as Charlton, Peterborough and Gillingham don't have undersoil heating and form a ridiculously high perfentage of clubs at this level who likewise don't

Is this really acceptable in this day and age?

Fortunately (Touch Wood) the weather has been reasonably kind to us so far this winter ad due to this we haven't seen many postponements due to weather, with the exception of a few in our league a couple of weeks back....However in the past we have fallen casualty to cold weather postponements and due to this we have found ourselves backed up with numerous "double fixtured weeks" of Tuesday / Saturday football....and whilst we are talking about professional footballers who should be able to handle this, it still has it's toll on the players but also the finances of the fans who might be able to exchange tickets however still find themselves having to fork out again on travel costs.

In 2012, Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony was quoted to have told the local media down there that "Undersoil heating would cost around £700,000 and with only a handful of fixtures being called off in four years, it doesn't make financial sense"....I'm not sure how his opinions have changed since as he promised to address this once they had established themselves at this level....Which arguable has happened now.

.........................................................................................................................................................................

I just wondered what others thought? In this day and age...should undersoil heating be made a mandatory requirement in order to play at this level?

I think it's a fair point. But the wider problem I'd say is that a lot of games seem to get called off when the pitch is relatively ok, but the ground and / or surrounding area isn't.

Honestly, part of the problem seems to be living in the "where there's blame" culture. Our home games called off in recent times have been as much down to fear that someone will slip around the ground as pitch conditions.

£700k plus running costs for undersoil heating is probably the kind of money that teams at this level would invest in if it made financial sense, but then think of the reaction when we were seen spending money on upgrading our pitch...

If this game gets called off, considering all the warnings they've had this week and the fact that we've all booked train/ coach tickets I shall not be a happy bunny

Yes but I think the fa, should help with the costs. Regarding this weekend. Covering the pitch will probably be enough. BBC weather forecast for peterbough ain't that bad.

Guess you never played at Reignhead Farm, Beighton?

Don't worry about Satdi, my man will take care of it..."roll out the Desso Jeeves"

As has been mentioned, clubs don't do nothing they will have covers which are considerably cheaper than under soil heating.

United have been more games disrupted this season by rearranged cup games and the stupid rule around including under 21s in international call ups. It has affected 4 games so far (it will be 5 if Millwall progress in the cup). You can argue we benefited from bringing forward the Southend game but would probably have achieved a better result against Walsall. I know fans are slightly less inconvenienced because they know further in advance.

Also does anyone know why L1 finishes a week earlier than the Championship and L 2 this season ? That could add further pressure.

Forecasts suggest the frost shouldn't be too heavy this weekend.

No tedious Desso jokes yet, I'm surprised.

Me too.

Other clubs (strangely, some who we have beaten away from home on their shitty pitches) say 'fuck you' to the weather and the spectre of cancelled home games, shocker.

Amazeballs.

Economy of scale. Good theory.

We tried it a while ago. We bought Higdon and got a whole series of gash players with him.

Not what I heard. We got Higdon and an Argos Shop Returned Dyson Hoover.

The Dyson marked him out of the game in training.

Although league one does incorporate larger clubs, there are some much smaller, less financially capable clubs. I'm not a business man, but I guess they may think what's the point?

Regardless, I hope if the game is off, they let us know nice and early instead of waiting until we're standing outside the ground AGAIN...

Yes it should be obligatory and yes the FL should help with the funding.

Our games have only been called off because of the surrounding areas but that's because we have undersoil heating. It's quite possible to have a frozen pitch without two foot of snow around the ground. Which is what happened in the South East a couple of weeks ago.

A few years ago, I was in Peterborough town centre, five pints down at 2pm when the coppers came in and said the pitch was frozen and the game was off

Isn't there a rule that if you get promoted to the Championship, you must have an all seater stadium within two seasons, or did I dream that up ? Should be similar rule re: under soil heating.

No need for Undersoil heating.

Bring back the pitch balloon worked a treat in the 70's.

Infact didn't the grunters from S6 buy this ?
And didn't it blow away down Middlewood Rd.

If Owners of Football clubs want to rip the heart and soul out of the club by building a new stadium on a different plot of land, then Undersoil heating, state of the art drainage (and rain collection) should be a minimum requirement

I'd go even further and get them to stick solar panels on the roof of the stands

Considering the Romans introduced under floor heating in the area before Jesus was born {the bible one not the man city one} its even more astounding they dont have a homage to their plumbing and heating skills
