Not when said player is earning much more than he can get elsewhere (because he's been crap for us). The best you can do then is loan them out whilst still footing a percentage of the bill. Last season we loaned out or moved on

  1. Higdon
  2. J. Wallace
  3. Scougall
  4. Harris
  5. Alcock
  6. McNulty
  7. DCL
  8. Kennedy
  9. K. Wallace
  10. Collins
  11. Khan
  12. Brooks
  13. Evans
  14. Hamilton
  15. Banton
  16. Willis
  17. McFadzean
  18. JCR
  19. Murphy
  20. Dimaio
That's 20 players and it still wasn't nearly enough.

just noticed you slipped Evans in

really

and players wilders kept scougal wallace

I have no doubt Clarke has something to offer and he may well still be here in the summer, my point was that a 3 year contract to a player with 18 moves in 13 years is a very strange decision. Whether that is permanent moves or loans, there is something that tells most football watchers that he finds it difficult to get his head down and settle in one place.
That is only my Opinion. If others feel a 3 year contract was a good move then fine. My opinion is certainly not a comment after the event it was very much my comment when we signed him in the first place.

Totally agree on the 3 year contract, considering his past but I am guessing Wilder just saw goals goals goals with Clarke and Sharp. Get the midfield right and they would bang them in. I always thought he was coming as a sub and high impact off the bench, and feel he still has a part to play at some point in our season. Just hope it's good!

It says we've not spent £300,000 on A PLAYER

We could have spent £299,999 on four different ones though

Congratulations for pointing out the obvious.

At least you managed to make a post without telling us all how terrible United are as a football club.

I agree pal..... there is defo more to come i think.

You retarded fuckwit
Have you nowt better to do than try to cause bother
Fucking sad twat

Not sure what that means
But the sad twat is there every time I post anything,

It was a "joke" based on your "Sheffield is a shithole" routine JJ. Thought you might have found yourself down there and it had wound you up.

I keep reading on this thread about players attitudes, for those who haven't seen the Mitchell Interview (Head of Recruitment or something like that) please watch it before commenting further.
You will then understand better why some players have gone and (that although you can never be sure) why the attitude of those recruited is good.

Totally agree.
We shouldn't have given him a 3 year contract but it was probably the only way to get him here.

Players like Clarke make me angry because he has talent and can produce moments of magic and that's the reason why so many clubs are prepared to gamble on him because he can score from nothing.

In the Summer we were desperate to bring in "tried and tested" quality at league 1 level.
No more Championship or PL rejects. The problem is a gauranteed golascorer is expensive.

I believe we paid Bury a small fee of £250K
Then matched his wages at Bury but gave him more security with a longer contract.

It's been said many times in here.
The club need to show ambition and sometimes it means paying over the odds.

Things have changed tho since the Summer.
Wilder has said himself now we are top of the league and favourites for promotion it is so much easier to sell the club and attract players. We are no longer as desperate as we were in the Summer.

If an agent is playing hardball then the players isn't so keen, so we move on to other targets where
A player is keen to match their ambition with Sheff United FC.

So are you saying he is lying?
If CW wants to move Clarke and his 3 year contract on to another Club , he is hardly going to say that not only has he got an injury problem but his attitude is questionable too.
Or do you want us to keep Clarke at Shirecliffe on £6k a week until he is 34 ?

It's only on here this "bad attitude" is known then? In the game despite all those clubs he's been at, no one in professional football would be aware of it?

I haven't mentioned keeping him, his salary or his age. No need to divert to make a point I haven't mentioned. The very simple question I asked Blademan was - after he tried to alter the point - was "do you think Wilder is being honest" relating to his comments about Clarkes excellent attitude. It's yes or no. I'll ask you the same.

Without wanting to diminish Wilder's efforts, I don't think Fleck would be here if we weren't the highest wage payer in the division.
Nah JD, they all come because we're the most massive mate, you can tell every time we sign a player just by their body language.

Once again, it's not yes or no. I for one have no idea whether Wilder is being honest or not, or whether Clarke has an attitude problem or not. It's irrelevant to the point being made, which is that Clarke was signed on too long a deal and is not delivering.

And it is possible Wilder is lying. Do you think that managers never lie to the press?

What? The point was about Clarkes attitude.
I never mentioned good deal or bad deal. That was you.

In this case to what end? If this "everyone knows he has a bad attitude' is true, everyone in football will know it. Yet people keep signing him. As I said earlier for this debate CW appears to have gone from straight John Bull, tell it like it is etc etc to a bullshit merchant about a player that oddly some don't like and wouldn't like even if he was playing well.

Presumably he's not injured either.

People keep signing a number of players with a "bad attitude": Joey Barton. Balotelli. El Haj Diouf. Paolo Di Canio. Jose Baxter, of all people, has a new club. So do Che Adams and Diego. We signed Marlon. King

If they are useful to someone, they get signed.

managers should always have control of whos in the squad
retained is one thing , getting shot is another
Dimao and the like could have easily been moved out, with little hassle
after being pointed out if they wanted to ever kick a ball they had to move

Yeah I'm sure we chose to loan out all those unwanted senior players rather than getting rid permanently just for shits and giggles. Your fundamental lack of understanding of the subject you are discussing is at times, baffling.

If Wilder takes us up, I hope the directors triple his wages

Now let's not get carried away! Some were saying we should pay 'whatever it takes' to get EEL to the Lane. CW (and AK) are doing a fabulous job and - judging by last Saturday - we've recruited extremely well. But what if, by Christmas, we're in the Championship and 'doing a Rotherham'? When Porterfield came to the Lane, he was given a 10 year contract which turned out to be ludicrous.
Things change quickly in football and heroes can soon be zeroes. Ranieri, anybody?

To keep CW at the Lane if/when bigger clubs come knocking for his services, I think a future 'director of football' role for him would be tempting.

Moore was 300k i think, it doesn't tell the whole story, but we do have a striker called Billy Sharp and i think he was approx 500k.

True, Swiss. Wendy are about to pay £10m for Jordan Rhodes. Cost to Spurs for Delle Ali? £5m.

It's a funny old game...

my reasoning
you posted a list of 20 several who are still here a large group were under 23s and you offered them up as more than half your argument that we cant get shot

so it matched the 10 I said was who we could offload,. from june to end of september by showing them there was no future in staying

not every footballer reacts like hammond , in fact hes the only one I can remember sticking their heels in
the others got nowhere near his money and would have had better futures elsewhere

if Blackwell managed to offload as many as he did when he took over , who were on contracts most managers , Adkins apart could have done the same

perhaps because hes had so many other clubs, a phenomena thats occurring to a lot lore these days , he wanted stability more than wages
in other words wanted a commitment, in return for a bit of loyalty

personally think it benefits us he wants to settle here, not just pull wages short term

Sorry, remind me who Blackwell shipped out. I'm struggling. I seem to remember we got Hendrie out but didn't we have to take Stewart in return? I didn't think Robson did that badly in recruiting, he just couldn't shape them into a team. I think Blackwell managed to get them playing quite well, alright, very well and it's easier to shift players when they're in form, like Beattie.
