a lot of those are academy , wont be on big wages dimao brooks banton khan willis , cant see them on 500 a week never mind 5000

DiMao was on £500pw. Doubled it at Chesterfield. Spends it on slots at the bookies.

If we'd have beaten Fleetwood and Gillingham we would be clear but we didn't.

We're a good side for L1 and I've said many times that I don't think there is a big difference between the top of L1 and the bottom of the championship, we should stay up, but there's a big difference between the top of L1 and the top of the Championship.
as southampton and norwich proved

Still more than 10 players aged 20 or over.
clutching at straws man
I said if CW had inherited those 20 any he didnt fancy would not have been here on sept 1st
hed have farmed them all out

Adkins , had a long look at them

thats the difference

CW was thorough , did a root and branch clean up
Adkins did fuck all except sign billy sharp and sell murphy
and about 3 or 4 tiddlers

As with all these 'snapshot in time' assessments, we simply wont know until April. For what its worth [and, in my case, that is a lot] our team is significantly better than any other in this league and would, without any recruitment [but there will be] survive in the lower middle of the league above, notwithstanding that good ol' Bladey inferiority complex.
If the new recruits are as good as CW hopes, we may well now be the best team in the league but we'll have a much better idea once we've played our rivals. I think one could make an argument that so far we've been flat track bullies but I'm in no mood to criticise us.

If we kept exactly the same team I think we'd just stay up, probably finish around 18th but it's academic because that won't happen.

You said he had a bad attitude. Wilder says he hasn't. The opposite in fact. Is Wilder being honest?

"2 pointsfrom your post:
Is Chris W. likely to admit that Clarke has a bad attitude if he is trying to offload him? Not many prospective buyers (or loaners) would take on players with a bad attitude.

When Clarke is not in the playing squad, he rarely sits in the seats behind the subs bench during matches like the others. When he does, he sits as far awaay from the others as possible. Is he a Billy no mates?

Though academy lads, they were still pros.

I would suggest most will have been on £500 a week with added incentives.

Youth scholars at 16 are on £140 a week, some get lodged, others get travel paid on top. That's for two years, after that its pro deal...or no deal.
National Minimum wage is over £250 a week full time, so these lad will be on more when everything is taken into account.

All about adds up.

Totally unecessary post IMHO.

Wilder gambled on players and most have come out far better than we expected, but Hussey and Wilson currently haven't. Hussey started in a poor team that was losing games. He may not be good enough or he might look a diffferent player in a confident winning team.

Presumably if he starts a game you will give him an 'encouraging boo' just to let him know what a total waste of space you think he is?
I don't think Wilson has been a poor signing. He is doing exactly what he was brought in to do....... act as cover. When he has played he has never let the side down.

No way Peterborough are even close to our wage bill Esa and no way they pay £10k a week to Tafazolli.

'No Way'? I think we'd be fairly close:

Our wage bill last season was £6.8 million up from £5.5 the previous...Hammond, Salmon, Edgar, Higgo, Woodford, Sharp, making up the bulk of this increase I guess with many of these expensive loans again, as opposed to buying players.

https://www.insidermedia.com/insider/yorkshire/losses-widen-as-blades-endure-disappointing-season

Posh were at £4.6 million down from £5.2 the previous and not long relegated from the Champ, which saw a modest increase to £6.2 million. They've also made around £21 million on player sales over the last few years...

http://miltonsfootballfinance.blogspot.co.uk/2016/05/peterborough-uniteds-finances.html?m=1

Given that Wilder has been tasked with reducing our wage bill and that he got rid of many of the high earners last summer and that Posh are usually pushing of promotion, at a guess, I'd reckon we're both somewhere between £5-6 million this year. I'd certainly expect us to be under £6 million!

Re Tafazolli: the £10k was the figure bandied about....our very own Sunjihi had this take on it.

Was at the lane Thursday agent wanted 10k CW told him to fuck off posh paying him 8k those days are gone of paying average players demanding wages , happy days

The timing of Wilder's remarks are interesting...as we're doing well and everyone (outside of the club) thinks we can simply 'buy our way of the league' because we're Sheffield United with 20K crowds...

That isn't the whole story.

Yes, it happens occasionally. Not much though. It's like saying Bournemouth should win the PL because Leicester did it. Before that, I think the last time it happened was when we did it. It's not impossible but it's very unusual.

All I'm saying is if we start thinking shit like this then we'll probably be disappointed. And for us to be disappointed by getting promotion and staying up, after six years in this league would be a disgrace and an insult to the work CW and AK will have done.

if , wilder had got it 12 month earlier in june 15 Id bet 5000 quid , he would have shipped out every player he didnt see having a future ,
he would have loaned them out to Peterhead or to an Iceland second division side drop the hint

Adkins made not one attempt to elbow the inadequate, we were fecked before we went to gillingham

professionally clarke has championship experience in spades
CW will keep him , he loves the balance of young and experienced
nothing is surer
best get used to it

That ought to be up there in bold permanently at the top of the screen.

We aren't there yet by any means, but if we do go up, then anyone who immediately starts talking about promotion wants a good kicking.

After 6 years of "Slowly, slowly, get nowhere near the bloody monkey", we should have learned by now that the football world does not owe us a living.

Peterborough Chairmen laughed his arse off on Twitter when asked if Taff was on £10k a week, he said not even close.

It amazes me how some folks on here know the ins and outs of private transfer discussions.

brentford , bournemouth huddersfield blackpool on the way up and others have all been in the play offs
its not that hard

its more common for those dropping in it from the prem to struggle

When we go up , our infrastructure and fan base gives us a head start on others
we arent in massive debt like a lot of the championship clubs
I think we should be halfway at worst , no one we should fear

ipswich forest qpr preston cardiff birmingham bristol cityand the like arent light years ahead of us

We shoulds follow the Burnley model and Watford , no stars just a unit

Yeah, thats speculation, still, I guess it wouldn't really be in the Posh chairman's interest to let it be know if they were paying wages of £8k a week to a (then) L2 CB.

The wage bill figures aren't speculation though and that's the main point...and the two clubs don't seem to be that far apart on that one do they?

managers should always have control of whos in the squad
retained is one thing , getting shot is another
Dimao and the like could have easily been moved out, with little hassle
after being pointed out if they wanted to ever kick a ball they had to move

Plenty on here say Clarke has a bad attitude. It's not a huge leap of faith that if it's true, people in the game would be aware. Or maybe CW didn't? Or Knill? Possibly not mentioning him would be the best scenario but he actively credits him.

Billy no mates? No idea. Feel free to suggest it though.

I admit it's a lot closer than I thought it would be. Especially with us having the likes of Clarke / Sharp / Coutts / Fleck / Moore / Duffy they won't be on a pittance.

Looks like no club are willing to match the wages we pay for McNulty let alone buying him. Not heard if Clarke has a bad attitude

Could we have not left him at Bradford then? Since we had plans to sign another striker anyway.

The poorest decision on CWs behalf is letting Clarke get away with signing a three year contract.
He has been injured and very poor.... Looks like a pay off is coming in the Summer

Anyone can make a comment after the event.

But the fact of the matter is at the time, Clarke at the time was a very good signing.
His record in league 1 is amongst the best and it was a sign of our ambition and intent.

No signings are gauranteed. All you can do is increase the odds of it being a success by buying "tried and tested". And Clarke is "tried and tested" in league 1.

Also I don't think our fans understand the type of player Clarke is.
Clarke is far more talented than Hanson. He's able to play as a loan striker and has the ability to score goals from nothing. He doesn't need good players around him. Hence why he's ALWAYS in demand in the lower leagues and can attract a high wage

When Clarke has played for us.. due his his talent he's tried the difficult worldly shot curved into the top corner or he's tried the ambitious difficult through ball. None of it has come off... so he's looked poor

It was interesting to see Hanson on Saturday. He's DOESN'T have half of talent of Clarke
So Hanson kept it nice and simple, he held it up well and played simple balls to our midfielders.
Meaning he was far more affective than Clarke. Hanson gave us a new dimension.

Clarke has had a poor start for us but it would be unfair to write him off yet.
The problem we have is that he's on a good contract and I suspect won't be in a rush to leave us unless we give him a decent pay off.

Loads of lower division clubs would have him but I doubt many clubs could afford him.

I have noticed that a few times but I am sure it is because of his "injury" that it means he needs to sit elsewhere. :)

Well, thats what we were talking about...

RE: our wages now:

Clarke/Fleck/Duffy will be in line with the new wage structure...I'd imagine, as senior pro's, Coutts, and Sharp will be amongst our highest earners but I suspect we will have a lower wage bill than last season...offset by the fact that we've actually paid more money up front for players!

P.S- I do believe Tafazoli was touted to us and that we were interested but turned him down due to his wage demands, whatever figure that was/he's on now at Posh.

I have no doubt Clarke has something to offer and he may well still be here in the summer, my point was that a 3 year contract to a player with 18 moves in 13 years is a very strange decision. Whether that is permanent moves or loans, there is something that tells most football watchers that he finds it difficult to get his head down and settle in one place.
That is only my Opinion. If others feel a 3 year contract was a good move then fine. My opinion is certainly not a comment after the event it was very much my comment when we signed him in the first place.
