Atmosphere today

didn't anyone hear our rendition of the Hallelujah Chorus?

I just can't get a Handel on that.

Young lads near us, aged about 14-17 years old, obviously never heard the original chant (or the piece of music) before, trying to pick up the words and join, keep singing "Sheff United, I love ya, I love ya", I haven't got the heart to put them right!

Too many excuses Barn. We're hardly reticent about giving criticism as a fan base. Surely we should acknowledge we should be doing better?

Precisely. There's a weird reluctance of people on here to admit that the atmosphere is terrible at Bramall Lane now, and it's not going to get any better if we go up. Can people honestly say it was much better than this in the Championship last time around? 100% wasn't. I've seen all sorts of excuses on here that just don't cover it. I think the atmosphere has pretty much gone for good; now it's just accepted that there's no noise, it's the norm and people have settled into this passive routine now. It's not just us though - the same could be said of so many grounds up and down the country. It's no fun going to see live football in the UK anymore, particularly after going abroad and seeing how superior it is in every aspect.

Can you honesty blame people for not getting carried away and excited?

After the billion let downs, false dawns and humiliations is there a group of fans in the country more entitled to an 'I'll believe it when I see it' attitude from the terraces.

We're sick of being in this league and the club are lucky we've kept turning up.

Atmosphere will be completely different against scunny and Bolton, because both matches will be one of those very rare league one games where you're not turning up thinking 'anything other than a win today is utter shite and a waste of a Saturday afternoon.'

This league is dog shit and the clubs performance over the last 5 years has been dog shit. Its time for them to deliver

No one can criticise the crowds we draw after what we've put up with in the seasons we have been down here.

Yes it may be quiet at times but as is mentioned, I think after the let downs we have been through we as a set of fans have become more wary rather than setting ourselves up for a massive fall if things didn't work out. I think as the season gets closer to finishing and if we are cemented into the automatic spots (including being in the number 1 spot) that feel good, electric atmosphere will come back without a doubt as the realisation sets in.

Can't blame them at all. What really pissed me off yesterday though was the number of fans that were streaming out when we were 3-0 up with 10 minutes to go. We're top of the league FFS!!

That's something we've always done I've noticed regardless of how we are playing.
Pisses me off no end as you're trying to watch and people get up to leave, blocking the view as they toss about trying to leave, whilst still attempting to watch the game as they walk away.

Can't understand, unless there are other pressing circumstances that dictate them having to go, why someone would pay the money we do to then miss a decent chunk of the game, generally a time when goals are likely to go in.

A big factor to explain the relatively poor vocal support in many of our matches this season has been that

Many matches have been so so easy.....and there's a mood in BL that you can see we are going to win
It's in the matches when we are misfiring or come up against tough oppostion that the fans tend to get behind the team more becuase they need our encouragement to help them win.

I expect Scunthorpe and Bolton to be tougher matches
And im confident the fans will help our players and raise the atmosphere.

Also it never helps when there's only 500 away fans most matches

Yeh we've always done it, but there was absolutely loads streaming out of the South Stand yesterday when there was still 10 minutes left. Maybe it was the same as normal only I just happened to look across at the South Stand as they all started walking out. My point still stands though :D

I haven't been confident of victory at any game this season. Where have all these optimistic Blades come from?

Scunny atmosphere should be a good un deffo. Could be the best so far this season.
i see weve given bolton 4400 tickets so should be a.great atmosphere mind cant see them selling that many probably 3k at best but i disagree with another poster on this thread i think it will be a much better atmosphere next season in the championship

Things will improve. This time of year is all about bout getting yourself in position to challenge. When Bolton and Scunthorpe come into town the atmosphere will better and if we come through that we will lighten up a little. It's hard not to think something will go wrong so every goal is a relief.

is that really an excuse though? we've had a few bad years so shouldn't support the team? just don't follow that logic whatsoever, it's nonsense.

I imagine it might be slightly better v Scunny, but I can't see it drastically improving.

You will be standing up next after we score.

You'd be amazed how many off them stand in the gangways before kick off blocking everyone trying to get past while they say hello to Derek and Lil telling them about everything they've done since the last home game. Then moan when kids don't sit down after clapping for ten seconds after a goal even though the players haven't even got back into our own half for kick off.

Even 2-0 up at home when you're top of the league and mauling the opposition? We're top and it's February. This is the best chance for us to get promoted for 6 seasons. Surely the time is now to start giving it the big un a little bit?

I tried for over a minute singing ONE DAVID BASSETT, THERE'S ONLY ONE DAVID BASSETT"! We were 4 up at the time and I knew he was there in the South Stand because Wilder said he was there today but no one joined in and I just looked a total tool! My mate thought it was hilarious though!

I actually thought the atmosphere was pretty decent to be honest though.

Remember joining in with you, Gangway E if I'm correct?

F mate, but to the left so yeah that's probably me! Cheers mate! Was about the 87th minute! I gave in after a minute of singing!

I listened back on the match highlights and I could just hear myself singing!

Some pathetic excuses for pathetic 'support'.

Best fans in the land, some say. Laughable.

Plus the 4th went in and everyone just left. Strange times indeed.
loads near us left just before and missed the 4th goal - I said at the time anyone'd think we were 3 nowt down!

Were you singing? Top of your voice? Full 90 minutes?
Pathetic comments demeaning the support from a pathetic "fan".

Don't start slagging off the support because it wasn't a party atmosphere.
The atmosphere is there when we want it to be.
I have already said earlier on that as we get closer to the end of the season that atmosphere will ramp up as the more likely it looks at getting promoted. Who can blame people for not getting carried away when we have done so in the past only to have then suffered a fall. People are more wary as we have had too many occasions built ourselves up and it's a long way back down to earth when it went wrong.

That's fine. But let's hope we've heard the last of the "best in the land" shite. Can't have it both ways, can we?

They've seen "The Sixth Sense" a dozen times and still don't know he's a fucking ghost....

Every team says their fans are best in the land, why do you take issue with the odd unitedite saying the same?

Not seen it personally on here where people are crowing from the rooftops that we are the best fans in the history of the world.

However, in saying that, there is no way you can detract from the support that turns up week in, week out, in what is classed as one of our lowest periods in our history. Even after 5/6 years and numerous awful teams/managers/performances in this league, the support still turns up.
I cannot think of many clubs that would still be pulling in the support we do after the previous 5/6 years we have had.
